Overview

This document has Axon product release information for February 2019, along with advanced notice of major upcoming features, updates, and applications.

Important Information for Evidence Sync users with Axon Body 2

We recently discovered an uncommon situation with Evidence Sync that could lead to the potential loss of evidence on your Axon Body 2 body worn cameras. If the computer running Evidence Sync enters sleep mode while you are using Evidence Sync to upload evidence from an Axon Body 2 camera and you swap to a different body worn camera while the computer is still in sleep mode, Evidence Sync may be unable to detect that the cameras have changed and may upload evidence as if it were from the original camera. When this occurs, evidence from the new camera may get deleted without being successfully uploaded.

This is a very unlikely situation, but evidence integrity is Axon's top priority and we wanted to share some best practices to prevent this from happening until we can update Evidence Sync to eliminate this potential.

• When uploading videos using Evidence Sync, do not let your computer enter sleep mode. You can change your power management settings to prevent the computer from entering sleep mode.

• If your computer does enter sleep mode while using Evidence Sync, then wake-up your computer and resume Evidence Sync operation prior to changing devices.

We are updating Evidence Sync to prevent this issue and expect to release the new version in March, 2019. As always, Axon highly recommends that you use the latest version of Evidence Sync with your Axon devices.

What is coming in the February Axon Evidence.com release:

Evidence Groups

With the February release, Axon is adding the new Evidence Groups functionality. Evidence Groups build on-top of the existing Group feature in Axon Evidence.com to enable agencies to automatically assign evidence ownership to a Group and automate evidence access based on group membership. While users can be members/monitors of multiple groups at one time, each user and each piece of evidence can only be assigned to one Evidence Group at one time.

Evidence Groups are not a new resource in Axon Evidence.com. Every existing Group can use the Evidence Group functionality. Each piece of evidence will still have a Recorded By attribute, which must be populated with a User, but will now also have an associated Evidence Group attribute.

The primary difference between a Group and an Evidence Group is how they enable access to evidence. Group Monitors are allowed to access all evidence owned by Group Members, as long as the user that recorded the evidence is still a member of the group. Evidence Groups allows evidence to be assigned to a group and for users with the appropriate permissions to be able to access that evidence. This ensures users with a supervisor role can always access all evidence assigned to their groups; even if the user that recorded the evidence is no longer a member of the group.

Changes to Roles and Permissions for Evidence Groups

Important: If your agency chooses to use the new Evidence groups functionality, your Axon Evidence.com administrators must review your agency's Roles and Permissions to ensure users have the correct permissions and access.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 6 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

The Evidence Group functionality adds one new permission and new settings for the Evidence Management permissions.

1 - New Edit Evidence Group Permission

• This permission allows a user assigned to the Role to modify the evidence group for a piece of Evidence. This permission is unlocked by the Evidence Management Edit permission. By default, this permission is set to Any Evidence for the pre-configured Admin Role.

2 - New Their Groups' & Their Own Permission Setting

• This setting allows users assigned to the Role to conduct the associated permission actions on their own evidence and all evidence assigned to any group the user is a member or monitor of.

Assigning Users to Evidence Groups

Every user can optionally have one Group assigned as the user's Evidence Group. All evidence recorded by the user is automatically assigned to the user's Evidence Group upon ingestion into Axon Evidence.com. Evidence can be manually assigned to an Evidence Group, but Axon recommends that all agencies using Evidence Groups assign each user that can upload evidence to an Evidence Group to automate evidence assignment and access.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 7 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

Axon Evidence.com administrators can manually assign and reassign users to Evidence Groups from the User Details page ...

And from the All Users page. You can update the Evidence Group for multiple users from the All Users page by selecting the appropriate users in the user list.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 8 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

Users can be assigned to an Evidence Group when they are added to the system, both individually from the Add User page ...

And when importing them from a text or CSV file.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 9 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

User Evidence Group information is included in the User Summary report. This report can be filtered to only show users from a selected Evidence Group.

Assigning Evidence to Evidence Groups

All evidence recorded by users that are assigned to an Evidence Group is automatically assigned to the recording user's evidence group.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 10 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

Evidence can be manually assigned or reassigned to an Evidence Group from the associated Evidence Detail page ...

And from the Evidence Search page. You can update the Evidence Group for multiple pieces of evidence from the Evidence Search page by selecting the appropriate evidence from the search results.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 11 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

The Evidence Group information for a piece of evidence is included in the Evidence Created, Evidence Deleted, and Uncategorized Evidence reports. These reports can be filtered to only show evidence from a selected Evidence Group.

Redaction Studio Updates

As part of our on-going Redaction Studio improvements, Axon is adding three updates with the February release:

• Persistent blur level, which remembers and applies the user's last blur level selection to all masks created after the selection. The selection is retained across redaction sessions and Axon Evidence.com sessions.

• Redaction auto-reconnect - in situations where an Internet connection issue is detected, Axon Evidence.com displays a warning message in the Redaction Studio header, disables redaction controls so no work is lost, and automatically tries to reconnect. Users can click Retry Now if they see their Internet connection is restored before the automatic timer reaches zero.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 12 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

• Timeline Zoom, which allows users to zoom in and out on the segment timeline for finer control and placement of video and audio masks.

Users can use the zoom slider (item 1 in the above image) or press the + key to zoom in on the segment timeline and the - key to zoom out.

Note: If the + and - characters on your keyboard layout are combined with another character, you must use the appropriate keyboard combinations to access the + or - character. For example - many keyboards combine + and = on the same key and you must press the Shift and + keys to use the + character.

The maximum zoom in will show a 10 second view of the segment timeline and the maximum zoom out will show a 3-minute view of the segment timeline. This update also adds a scroll bar below the segment timeline (item 2 in the above image) that can be used to scroll to different parts of the segment timeline while zoomed in.

Device Home in Axon Evidence.com

The new Device Home attribute for devices is designed to help improve agency device inventory management. This new attribute is to help with inventory management and track where the device belongs. The Device Home attribute can be added to devices and then used to find devices on the Axon Evidence.com Inventory search page, and to further help an agency track where devices are kept when they are not deployed with users.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 13 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

Agency administrators can add Device Home information that corresponds to organizational or physical locations in the agency, such as precincts, divisions, or stations. Until you add device homes, this attribute will not be displayed or used.

The Device Home attribute is shown in a new column on the Inventory Search page and can be set from this page by selecting the appropriate devices, clicking Update Home, and selecting the appropriate Device Home. You can also search for all devices at a particular Device Home using the Device Home search filter.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 14 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

Currently, the device detail pages for non-TASER 7 devices do not show the Device Home information. But a future release will update all device pages to the new format so that Device Home information is visible on all device detail pages.

The image below shows an example of a TASER 7 Device page with the Device Home.

Device Home information is included in the Device Summary report.

Coming Soon

This section provides advanced notice about major upcoming features, updates, and applications that might require new or updated agency processes.

Redaction Assistant

Redaction Assistant is an add-on to the standard Axon Redaction Studio functionality. Redaction Assistant speeds up your redaction process by checking videos for common objects, such as license plates and video screens, and automatically adding mask segments to those objects. Once Redaction Assistant has completed the check, Redaction Studio users can review and edit the mask segments as needed. This cuts down the amount of time you need to spend on tedious, repetitious tasks and allows you to focus on more important parts of redaction. Additionally, Redaction Assistant's ability to identify objects will improve over time, further reducing the time needed for reviewing and editing.

Redaction Assistant is in early access and we expect to release it in April 2019. Redaction Assistant will be part of OSP 7+ and will also be available as an individual add-on. You can see a preview of Redaction Assistant in the recent Axon Academy Redaction Studio Virtual Class video. The discussion of Redaction Assistant starts around 25 minutes into the video and lasts for 5 minutes. We encourage you to take a look.

Axon Performance

Body-worn camera programs produce vast amounts of data. Reviewing this data can be an extremely time-consuming, manual and a paper-based process. Axon Performance allows agencies to take a more automated, data-driven approach to this work by guiding frontline supervisors through intuitive policy review workflows that highlight officer and squad performance based on agency defined criteria. Additionally, Axon Performance can assist agencies by selecting a randomized sample of body-worn videos for a supervisor's review, highlighting calls for service without a body-worn video, and surfacing uncategorized evidence that is scheduled for deletion.

Axon Performance is currently in early access and will be released in March 2019. Axon Performance will be part of OSP 7+ and will also be available as an individual add-on. See the Axon Performance product page for additional information and watch the release notes for additional product announcements.

Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 23 of 24 Axon February 2019 Release Notes

User Ranks

In the coming months, Axon will deploy additional functionality to add and manage User Rank as part of a user's profile. User Ranks will allow agencies to define ranks and rank abbreviations used by their agency. Administrators can optionally assign a rank to user profiles as well as search for users by rank.

Our initial plans are to expose user rank in user search and the user detail pages. In the future, rank may be used with other functionalities.

Axon View Admin Page Update

This month we are adding the Axon View Admin settings page to provide a central location for maintaining Axon View application settings for your agency.

Currently, there are two settings on the page:

• Axon View Pairing - This sets if the cameras can be paired with Axon View. This setting was moved from the Axon Body 2 & Flex 2 settings page.

• Automatic Wi-Fi (iOS) - This sets if your agency’s Apple devices will automatically connect to an Axon Body Camera’s Wi-Fi when using the Playback and Live View functions in Axon View. If this setting is disabled, users must manually install the Wi- Fi profile on the Apple device. This setting applies to all iOS devices at your agency that have Axon View installed. Agency Apple devices must have iOS 11 or higher for this option to function correctly.
