I shall wait, I expect patiently, for both activities to fall apart from the inside, and perhaps, become rational. But oh, how I bleed for those poor dead young people. Tuesday April 18 1989 Now Liverpool Council are offering complete financial support for all the families of the dead, funeral expenses, everything. I wonder if the same would have been if ninety-five people had been suffocated on the stairs after a semi-gala at Liverpool Playhouse. Odd peoples’ love of crowds. I think I must have as little of the herd instinct as anyone. Last night I thought I might go to see A. Hopkins in M. Buller fly which is previewing. When I got there, the foyer was so full at 7.30 for 8.0, that I didn’t even enquire whether there was a ticket, - I turned away and came back home. Another aspect of the whole thing, is the lower middle class male being very very reluctantly dragged into reality. I hope he’s not too upset about it to work. Later. It seemed like next day! Out at 2.15 to buy some summer pyjamas, 3 prs. £41 M and S, Oxford St. Then to buy coffee beans, Gourmet Noir.

Where movies, television, and literature are generally passive, video games offer us the ability to affect their characters and locations with change – or at least the illusion of it. This hasn’t, however, stopped a small portion of producers from attempting to rework video game concepts for a television audience on numerous occasions. Games are tough to adapt in any medium, so we spoke to the few experienced creatives – past and present – with a track record of getting it right. There are two ways video games have surfaced on television over the years. We’ve seen shows centred on the discussion of video games (GamesMaster, Games World, and Gamezville, to name a few) and programmes that are either inspired by or directly focused on a single game or genre. The gap left by the former has unequivocally been filled by the glut of personality-driven channels on YouTube, but it’s in the latter where the idea has arguably been more fruitful.     TV Formats in Europe Given the prolonged advertising recession and the fact that several major titles have peaked, the TV formats market in Europe is showing remarkable resilience. The value created by the top 100 formats was $2,931 million in 2013 for 84 European channels across the 16 territories and 21 distributors, according to the TV Formats in Europe report. The 2013 figure was 3.3% down on the 2012 total, but up on 2011. The number of hours broadcast reached 28,386 in 2013, nearly the same as 2012. The UK is the TV formats leader in Europe – just ahead of France. The value created by formats for UK broadcasters was $600 million in 2013, down from $677 million in 2012. France recorded $599 million in 2013, up from $547 million in 2012. The UK, France, Germany and Italy accounted for 72% of Europe’s total value created in 2013. The top 10 broadcasters accounted for two-thirds of the total value created in Europe for 2013 – which means that the remaining third was shared by 74 channels. France’s TF1 ($332 million) led the pack again, followed by Italy’s Rai 1 and the UK’s BBC1. The total number of hours broadcast in Europe for the 100 formats was 28,386 in 2013; very close to 2012. The UK was the leader again, despite its 2013 total (3,935) being considerably lower than in 2012 (4,623). Romania took third place, having added 645 hours to its total in 2013.
