Biographies Bob Palmieri began his studies as a member of the American Boychoir, touring the US & Canada in the mid 1960’s. Upon leaving the choir he turned his attention to the electric guitar, learning both the repetoire of the day and enough electronics to modify all his gear. After a stint in a blues band in he attended the University of Rochester, where he studied acoustical physics, electrical engineering and perceptual psychology before joining the Eastman Jazz Ensemble in 1978. He continued his musical studies at the University of Miami where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Studio Music & Jazz, performed as a member of their Concert Jazz Band and worked extensively as a session guitarist at Criteria Studios. He moved to New York in 1983, playing in clubs and concert halls, studying with Gene Bertoncini and John Scofield, touring with the Maynard Ferguson band and teaming up with guitar designer Ken Parker to develop new concepts in pickups and electronics. Bob arrived in Chicago in 1985, where he played on hundreds of recording sessions for radio and television commercials and performed in clubs around the city. In 1994 he joined the faculty at DePaul University where he teaches jazz guitar, improvisation, jazz history and theory

Past performance and recording credits highlight a broad range of styles, as represented by work with , Nancy Wilson, Lyle Mays, Garth Brooks, the American Ballet Theater and Rochester and Florida Philharmonic Orchestras, among many others. Recordings include members of the Pat Metheny Group, Phillip Glass Ensemble, Rashied Ali and Fred Hersch.

Recent collaborations include performances and recordings with Blue Note artist Kandace Springs and Rolling Stones keyboard player Chuck Leavell; a segment of a live performance with Chuck can be found on the website: dunelandlabs.com​

Dennis Carroll started playing bass professionally at age 17 out of Poplar Grove, IL. Dennis was taught by Mike Barnett, a great bassist and great friend. He has performed with artists such as , Ron Blake, Ira Sullivan, Russ Long, and regularly works and records with Bobby Broom, Pharez Whitted, Ron Perrillo, Pat Mallinger, and John Wojciechowski. Bob Lark is recognized regionally, nationally and internationally as a contemporary jazz educator and performer of integrity. His approach to pedagogy and rehearsal techniques has been noted by participation in professional conferences; publication of articles; compact disc recordings as both a performer and ensemble director; and the direction of numerous student honors ensembles. Downbeat magazine recognized Bob’s work in 2010 with their Jazz Education Achievement Award.

In 2013, DePaul University honored Bob Lark as an ambassador for the DePaul Distinctions campaign. He serves as a Professor of Jazz Studies at DePaul University. Under his direction, the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble has produced several Outstanding Performance Awards from the Jazz Educators Journal, Downbeat and Jazz Times magazines, and has recorded with several legendary jazz artists, including Phil Woods, , Randy Brecker, Jim McNeely, and Bob .

In speaking of Lark, jazz icon Clark Terry stated, “He’s a very good trumpet player, a very good musician. He’s paid his dues.” Recordings on the Jazzed Media label include those by The Bob Lark/Phil Woods Quintet, Bob Lark and his Alumni Big Band, and Bob Lark and Friends, with Phil Woods, Rufus Reid, and Jim McNeely. He is an exclusive Yamaha Performing Artist.

Bob authored the book “iWarmUp for Trumpet” (Mountain Peak Music, 2018), a systematic warm-up that covers a wide-depth of jazz styles and is designed to coordinate with the iRealPro application available on Apple iPhones. Bob is an active clinician, soloist and guest conductor. He has served as host for the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, is the past-president of the Illinois Unit of the International Association for Jazz Education, and has chaired the International Trumpet Guild jazz improvisation competition. Throughout the 1990’s, Bob directed the Midwest GRAMMY High School Jazz Band. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in performance from the University of North Texas, having earlier earned a Master’s degree from that school, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from The Ohio State University. Saxophonist, Multi-Reedist, Composer, Recording Artist, Bandleader, and Educator Sharel Cassity (pron. “Sha-Relle”) is a musician well established on the New York and Chicago jazz scenes. Listed as “Rising Star Alto Saxophone” in Downbeat Magazine for the past decade, Sharel has appeared on the Today Show, won the 2007 ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award & has been inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Her albums released as a leader have received top-rated reviews in publications like JazzTimes, Jazziz, Downbeat & American Indian News & earned her a cover story in Saxophone Journal. Cassity’s latest , “Evolve,” was recorded and distributed on her , Relsha Music.

Selected to attend The Juilliard School Jazz program under full scholarship for a Masters in Music, Sharel earned her BFA from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in 2005. A skilled and versatile sideman, Sharel is a regular member of the Dizzy Gillespie Latin Experience, Nicholas Payton TSO, Cyrus Chestnut Brubeck Quartet, and the Jimmy Heath Big Band. She has also performed regularly alongside renowned Grammy-winning artists , Lewis Nash, Joe Chambers & Darcy James Argue. Sharel has toured 24 countries and performed at leading venues like the Newport Jazz Festival, & the North Sea Jazz Festival. Additionally, she has shared the stage with , , Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, and Natalie Cole. Sharel was lead alto in the Diva Jazz Orchestra from 2007-2014 and performed in Wynton Marsalis’ Broadway musical After Midnight.

In mainstream genres, Sharel joined Top 40 hit singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant on her recording “Paradise is Here.” She has also performed with , Vanessa Williams, K.D. Lang, Fantasia, Trisha Yearwood, Seth MacFarland (Family Guy), Ruben Blades, and DJ Logic.

Sharel appears in publications “I Walked with Giants” by Jimmy Heath, “AM Jazz: Three Generations Under the Lens” by Adrianna Mateo and “Freedom of Expression: Interviews with Women in Jazz” by Chris Becker. An alumni of IAJE Sisters in Jazz, Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead, and the Ravinia Summer Residency, Sharel has received Downbeat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz soloist, Composition, and Ensemble. As classical pianist, Sharel placed third in the Disney International Piano Concerto Competition at the age of 10, among many other collegiate and state piano competitions. An accomplished classical saxophonist, Sharel was offered a full scholarship to North Texas State University for classical saxophone.

Recently, Cassity accepted a temporary full-time position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as Professor of Saxophone for the Fall 2019 semester. Additionally, she has three adjunct positions in the Chicago area at Elgin Community College, Columbia College, and DePaul University. Between 2016-17 Sharel taught internationally as the Woodwind Professor at Qatar Music Academy in Doha, Qatar.

Moving frequently throughout her childhood, Sharel graduated high school in Yukon, Ok. In 2000 she moved to New York City and relocated to Chicago in 2017 with her family. Sharel is a proud Vandoren Performing Artist.

HPC Box Office Information 2330 North Halsted Street | Monday–Friday | 10 AM–3 PM* *Seasonal hours apply, but we are always open 90 minutes prior to concert start times.

Accessibility: HPC is dedicated to providing access for all patrons. We ask that you please contact the HPC Box Office at least two weeks prior to your performance date to request accessibility services.

Cameras and Recorders: The taking of photographs or the recording of concerts held at HPC is strictly prohibited. By attending this concert, you consent to be photographed, filmed and/or otherwise recorded. Your entry constitutes your consent to such and to any use, in any and all media throughout the universe in perpetuity, of your appearance, voice and name for any purpose whatsoever in connection with HPC and DePaul University School of Music.

Concert Dress: At any given concert, you will observe some concertgoers dressed up and others dressed more casually. Many patrons wear business attire or casual business attire. We encourage you to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

Food and Beverage: The HPC Café, located next to the HPC Box Office, is open for some performances, offering limited snack and beverage items. Whiledrinks, with lids, are allowed in performance spaces, food is never allowed.

Fire Notice: The exits indicated by a red light nearest your seat is the shortest route to the lobby and then outside to the street. In the event of fire or any emergency, please do not run. Walk to that exit.

Late Seating: Late seating breaks usually occur after the first piece on the program or at intermission in order to minimize disturbances to other audience members and those performing on stage. Late patrons will be seated at appropriate breaks at the discretion of the house management staff.

No Smoking: All public spaces in HPC are smoke-free.

Phones and Paging Devices: All electronic devices—including cellular phones, pagers and wristwatch alarms—should be turned off while in any concert or recital hall.
