February 17. 1965. BRITISH IMPERIALISM NAKED AT WORK CREATING ANOTHERTSHOIMBE i K ANOTHER CONGO IN SOUTERT . On three different occasions Britain made special pronouncements about a visit to . First, In Iusaka during the Zambia Uhuru Celebrations in October 1964, Mr Arthur Bottomley, in no uncertain terms told and indeed the world at large that he can only go to visit Southern Rhodesia if only he is permitted to see both Rev. President of African National Union (ZANU) and Mr. , life President of the People's Caretakecr Council (PCC). Rev. Sithole was at that time and ,till is in Salisbury Central Prison serving a political prison sentence for offences allegedly committed under the notorious and iniquitous Law and Order (Maintenance) Act during the implementation of ZANU's Campaign to resist and prevent unilateral declaration of independence and to gain majority rule. Mr. Nkomo was and still is in restriction at Gonakudzingwa Restriction Camp. Second: Mr. , Britain's Prime Minister confirmed in the House of Commons in London that Mr. Bottomley can o to Southern Rhodesia if only he is ermitted to see both Rev. Ndabaningi Sithole then and -till in Salisbury Central Prison servibg the same Political Prison sentence, and Mr. J. NKOMO then and still at Gonakudzingwa Restriction Camp. Third: Mr. Arthur Bottomley, through the Minister of State, Mr. G. Hughes assured ZANU delegation to London recently that he will not go to S. Rhodesia until and only if he is assured that he will see both Rev. N. Sithole then and still in Salisbury Central Prison serving the same political prison sentence, and Mr. J. Nkomo, then and still at Gonakudzingwa Restriction C~mp. Nothing has ha.en since these pronouncements were made. Sithole is ;ti11 in prison serving the same political sentence and Nkomo is ctillin restriction at Gonakudzingwa. What has made the British Government to capitulate? About mid-Januarya Mr. , Mr. Nkomo's personal friend and lawyer went down to Gonakudzingwa and was instructed by Nkomo to contact the British Government on his behalf. Baron acted likewise and excitedly published the gist of the message in British newspapers and also in East African newspapers January. (a) "Nkomo and his lientenants at Gonakudzingwa are prepared to work with Ian Smith's regime. (b) They are prepared to bargain and accept any Constitutional arrangement EVEN BELOW MAJORITY RULE, if only the British Government could act quickly before the extremists (ZANT Executive members and activists)who are fast gaining support to their side, get out of prison". Joshua Ekomo the spineless, hollow leader, had capitulated and again vold th 4.O.OOO Africans dow, the riveT.(continued on the next page za

.2. Likewise the British Government who for a long time had been fumbling, capitulated, seized the opportunity and exploited it. Unahame bytheir disgraceful move, they revolked their earlier decision. At long last t1ey found a puppet in Joshua Nkomo - a pliable man who was prepared to sacrifice principles for expedience. Joshua Nkomo was nowi prepared to damn the old cry of one man one vote and majority rule and accept anything below that.He was now prepared to work tan Smith's regime - the very establishment he had previously set out to fight. The British have a secret plan to build him up into a figurehead like Tshombe of the Congo and to use him to protect the BritFish and settler interests, and exploit the Africans.Nkomo is ace in this sphere. We are not surprised by Nkom6's capitulation and sell-outism. It is part of his make up.At the Southern Rhodesia Constitutional Conference in 1961 he accepted the constitution which was totally rejected by African masses. "Mr. Nkomo in his speech made almost immediately afterwards(at the end of Southern Rhodesia Conference)welcomed the report and claimed that they(15 seats only for 4,000,00 Africans in a House of 65, that is,50seats for only 217, 000 white settlers)were a stepping-stone and a half-way house to the ultimate goal."This is found on page 736 of the House of Commons, Hansard of Haroh 23, I961. Nkomo - A daling of imperialists Working with Smith?? This does not surpri&e us titherw. hkomc'e paty, the People's Caretaker Council (PCC) is a multi-racial party. It has Duropeansthe very people,Africans are fighting,in their rank and file. They include ambitious Mr. , former Southern Rhodesia Prime Minister who while in power introduced the Public Order Act, the forerunner of the Law and Order (Maintenance)Act and several other iniquitous laws. He beat naked African girls with a sjamboko when he was principal of Dadaya Mission because they had revolted against bad food and school conditions. He sent troops to kill several African strikers at Wankie Cool Mines. There are many more of this sort of glib Europeans who are in the PCC circles, many of them holding executive positions. inWhile at Gonakudzingwa Nkomo has received several presents from imperialists, some of them members of Ian Smith's Rhodesia Front Party. They include Mr. Pockets who in addition to monies perhaps from the Rhodesia Front Coffers, sent brand new paraffin refrigeraton to Nkomo. It is obvious Nkomo has been working hand in hand with the imperialists, and he has last come out in his true colours - he wants to rule with Smith and his settlers.Nkomo is a darling of imperialists. Vicious British Imperialism: As usual the sly British Government in a desperate bid to jtifytheir treachery and chicanery, they chose to call Sithole and the rest of ZANU Central Committee members now in prison - people servihg criminal sentences,. so that they can go and see their puppet, Joshua Nkomo - a man in restriction. Sithole and his colleagues are serving sentenies resulting from ZANU's vigorous campaign - the implementation of the first stage of its MasterPlan OPERATION CONFRONTATION - to resist and prevent unilateral declaration of independence by Ian Smith's cowboy regime and to liberate the trodden-down Africans and Zimbabwe from the imperialists.(cntinued on the next page )

1? .3. Besides, the rest of executiveSithole alone was charged with 13 counts Luder the Law and Order (Maintenamce)Act. He was said to have incited trouble in the country. In the Umtali Magistrate Court, the Crown Counsel prosecuting, attributed the following incidents to Sitholet 50 road blocks, telephone wires cut in over 70 places, petrol bombing of Nyanyadzi Police Station about 70 miles south of Umtalibesieging and occupation of Tyanyadzi Polica Station by the bombers for over five hours, downing and burning of a police helicopter which attempted to recapture the police station.from the petrol bombersburning of Eu opean children at a European boarding school in Chipinga about III miles south of Umtali, killing of a white farmer at a road block near Melsetter and blowing of locomotive on the Fort Victoria train. Many more incidents have since been revealed as ZANU Central Committee members and revolutionaryforces are tried in magistrate and high courts. iWhat about Joshua Nkomo~the darling and saviour of the white settlers, what did he do ? Nkomo was restricted to Gonakudzingua for no other reason than that his paid-up thugs were perpetrating violence in African townships - violence against Africans.Never did he attempt to confront Europeans and their properties. Hence he is a darling of white settlers. PCC Dar Office Join ZANU in Condemning Bottomley's Visit: The Dar - es- Salaam Office of Nkomo's People's Caretaker Council or the decadent ZAPU if you like, have seen danger in the Bottomley - Smith - Nkomo alliance and have agreed and joined ZANU in its gallant battle to condemn the Bottomley's visit. In their bulletin - Zimbabwe review - published in Dar - es Salaam on February T5, they cited;"Bottomley's visit to Zimbabwe is far from being genuine and as such it should be condemned." This explains clearly the sort of a game Nkomo is playing with imperialists. He does not even agree with his own followers. We are aware of course that tha British Government is desperate about the Southern Rhodesia issue. They want to find a scapegoat. With Smith having successfully bought over the chiefs, and Joshua Nkomo having agreed to work with Smith and accept a constitution below majority rule, Britain can easily wash its hands by giving independence to Smith and say the Africans agreed. ZANU has warned and warns Britain again in no uncertain terms that if Bottomley continue with his projected trip and see revisionistcapitulationist Nkomo and not the true Freedom Fighters Rev. Ndabaningi Sithole and his Central Executive colleagues now in prison, will have signalled trouble and bloodshed in Southern Rhodesia. We shall never tolerate the imperialists evil manoeuvres to build and impose their own PUPPET - a Rhodesia Tchombe - on us. We shall nip their satanic plots in the bud. The choice of leadership is the sole responsibility of the Africans of Zimbabwe who know who is who, and no other person, imperialists or otherwise.
