Death Notes: The Streator Weekly Free-Press Streator, Illinois 10 APR 1880 - Page 1 Complete transcription Mr. Francis Funk, an old resident of this vacinity, died of typhoid fever after a sickness of only five days, last SUnday, and was buried in the Barnhart cemetery, Monday. He was about 71 years old and leaves a wife of two children. Elizabeth Burger[21, 22, 23] was born on 30 Jun 1810[24, 25]. She died on 30 Dec 1844 in Ottawa, La Salle, Illinois, USA (near the Fox River House)[26, 27, 28]. Francis J. Funk and Elizabeth Burger were married about 1830 in Germany. They had the following children: 2. i. Margaret Funk[29, 30] was born before 1838 in Germany. She died between 1872-Feb 1878 in Germany[31, 32, 33]. 3. ii. [partial transcription follows, with personal observation] "Francis J. Funk married Esther Morton, a native of Massachusetts, and two children were born of their union. Eliza, their daughter, was reared in the family of a Mr. Reddick, by whose surname she was called." PERSONAL OBSERVATION: Francis J. Funk was apparently married three times: (1) Elizabeth Burger; (2) Esther Morton; and (3) Mary Strockbien. Various items and official documents seem to indicate that Francis J. Funk only had children resulting from his marriage to the first wife. Among those children were Margaret (Funk) Moore [actually, MOHR ], Elizabeth Burrier Funk, and John Funk, husband of Mary A. La Salle County Genealogy Guild Obituary Files The Free Trader, Ottawa, Illinois 26 FEB 1887 - Page unknown Complete transcription Miss Elizabeth B. F. Reddick, the adopted daughter of the late Wm. and Eliza Reddick, died at the family mansion, in this city, on Tuesday, 22, aged 46 years, 4 months and 12 days, of catarrhal consumption, together with a chronic affection of the throat, which had troubled her for over twenty years. She was born in Cobleniz, Prussia, and was brought to this country by her parents when she was two years old. They lived near the Fox River House, where her mother died when she was less than three years old. Mrs. Reddick, who was of a charitable disposition, heard of the little girl's bereaved condition and took her home. The childless couple soon learned to love the little one and adopted her as their own. They gave her all the loving care that parents could have bestowed upon their own offspring, and in return her love went out to them in the fullest of childish trust and reverance, which, as she grew up ripened into the respect and devotion of a daughter to her parents. The death of Mrs. Reddick affected her deeply, and the crowning weight of her misery was the loss of Mr. Reddick, since which time she has been [sic]appressed with a load of unspeakable sorrow. This was greatly increased by the worriment of a law suit which threatened not only to have turned her out of the home of her whole life, but in effect to declare her nothing to her adopted parents. SHe thought the suit if decided against the will by which her adopted father gave her a home for life, would in effect pronounce her a trespasser, a sponger of bounties she had no right to enjoy. That these reflections hastened, if they did not cause her death, is certain. Her remains were interred in the Reddick cemetery lot in West Ottawa, Thursday, after appropriate funeral services at the house. Her father died a year ago. She is sup[posed] to have made no will. Her property will in that case go to her brother, John Funk, a farmer living near Streator.

They were married by the Reverend Claiborne Curtis. Joseph was born in June 1834 in Jackson County, Ohio. -2 Mary Jane Stover, born February 11, 1840, in Raleigh County; died January 16, 1918. She married Robinson Williams on September 11, 1856, in Raleigh County. They were married by the Reverend Claiborne Curtis. Robinson was born in November 1838 at Sand Branch, Fayette County, Virginia. He died October 5, 1928, at Long Branch, Fayette County. -3 Ruhama (Mahala?) Stover, born 1846, married Jim Roberts. -4 Elicia (Leticia) Stover, born November 1850 in Raleigh County, married first William Pace on December 12, 1867, in Raleigh County.

    Study of old families of Center Line pages Using small print and single spacing the page numbers are 2331-2467 at moment When burials at St Clement and census data appear to match both are bolded. Red shows interesting data such as persons who are probably buried in St Clement Cemetery but who have no stone. This is a work in progress all censuses were not searched for every family. This at least gives St Clement Cemetery records and stones and Macomb County Death records thru 1917. In several cases misspellings and poor writing have led to not finding relatives on old censuses but here I have published several missing members found in other families. Many of these were children living in other families and both younger and older persons. Many were living in other families as helpers or servants. Unless noted occupation was usually farmer or housekeeping with “at home “ or “at school” for the children. This study is on going and notes received from local families will help. He died on February 27, 1903 in Oxford, Warren, New Jersey (Hazen Cemetery, Warren County, NJ). He married (1) CAROLINE MATILDA SCHAEFFER about 1845 in probably New Jersey. She was born on August 16, 1824 in Germany. She died on October 27, 1867 in Oxford, Warren, New Jersey. He married (2) CATHERINE ?? about 1870. She was born in 1832 in Bavaria. She died before 1885 in Oxford, Warren, New Jersey. Notes for Georg Ludwig Riedesel: Georg Ludwig Riedesel was born May 13, 1817, in Wunderthausen in the house known as Wetzels. He was the eighth of nine recorded children of Johann Ludwig and Anna Elisabeth (Knoche) Riedesel. An older sister, Catherine, came to live in Warren County, New Jersey in 1837. Ludwig's application for naturalization states that he arrived in 1841 and that is the year he received permission to emigrate. He married Caroline Schaeffer (probably Schäfer) around 1845. She was born August 16, 1824 in Germany. One source gives Wunderthausen as her place of birth but this is incorrect. No Schäfer daughter is recorded in the birth records at this time--and no Schäfer family even lived in the village. Nor were they married there. Several of the Riedesels who settled in Warren County came to be known as Riddle or Radle. It's not that there weren't other Germans around who could pronounce (and spell) Riedesel correctly, but this seemed to be the rule.
