EILERT GERDES VOSS (1822-1863) was the owner and captain of this sailing vessel. Both he and his 14 year old son, GERD, died. His wife was MARGARETHA SCHOON. My Hasseler family is from Kl Remels and my 2nd great grandfather is Dirk Focken Hasseler, born 17 May 1833. He was married twice. It is possible the Dirk wounded in WWI is related to him.

Before family names had been introduced, the name “Sweer Jurgens“ told that Sweer is the son of Jurgen (Jurgen’s son); his eldest son would have been named “Jurgen Sweers” (son of Sweer). – But this was not a fixed rule!!! Later on the sons often got the first name of their father as second Christian name – with an additional “s”. Anke married William Pannemann or Penneman in 1853, and Gepke married Edo Duden in 1856. At least two were dead by 1860. These are my maternal aunts. Paternal relatives of time were Franzens. He was born in Zweibruken between 1772- 1785 and emigrated to Canada around Lunenburg I believe in 1832 or thereabouts with his wife Elizabetha Traudtmann. It is likely that his father (Jacob?) and several siblings also came to Canada though info is sketchy.

According to a book written by Mary F. Kendrick "Down the Road to Yesterday", 1941 (A history of Springfield annapolis county, Nova Scotia) "Jacob Grimm came from Germany where his older children were born. He married charlotte----- and settled in Lunenburg County. children Christian, Daniel, Jacob, Martha, Margaret and one other daughter."

I believe my lineage to be Jacob -> Christian -> James Christian -> Fernando O'dell - Ross Hayward and I am Paul Hayward Grimm. (All deceased except me)

Christian Grimm and his son James Christian Grimm settled in Springfield in 1859.
