On Tuesday, the Univer- sity asked students not to participate in the infamous BARE Run, aka the Undie Run. Alhough the event has been popular for many years, its mission — to serve as a fun place to donate clothes — has not been successful, accord- ing to the University email. While some students are bound to still strip and run, others might try to think of alternatives. Whether or not you were planning on going, here are five things to do this Friday instead: 1. Dress up as bears and run. Then go watch “The Revenant.” 2. Donate your clothes. Thrift stores, including Arc and the Goodwill, accept clothing donations. 3. Run around your house naked. The police can’t stop you there. Anjani Mahabir, 30, spends her days playing music at the Old Town Square.

Your heart is racing and your eyes Iare wide open. “I’ve got to get some sleep – there’s no way I’ll ever get through tomorrow if I don’t get some rest,” you say to yourself. You can’t seem to stop the waves of random thoughts. Up to now there has been no clear winner in the trial. You can see that the jury is confused. The trial has been a real tug-of-war. Each side has bee pulled to the brink of disaster, but neither has gone over the edge. The victor is yet to be decided. It all rides on your closing argument. Can you breathe life into these well-worn facts? Can you make the jurors understand? Can you move them to feel the loss your clients have endured? Can you provide the jurors with what it takes to right this wrong? It’s all up to you. The responsibility is overwhelming. All the time, all the work, all the energy, the very future of the family you’ve grown to love depends on the words you choose and how you present them. You think of the first time the family walked into your office. You didn’t know their children, Johnny and Laura, their dreams, their losses. Well, they aren’t just clients now. Your life has become so entwined with theirs that it’s hard to tell where their lives stop and yours begins.

  • “Amarillo by Morning” the Life and Songs of Terry Stafford 1
In the early months of 1964, on their inaugural tour of North America, the Beatles seemed to be everywhere: appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show, making the front cover of Newsweek, and playing for fanatical crowds at sold out concerts in Washington, D.C. and New York City. On Billboard magazine’s April 4, 1964, Hot 100 2 list, the “Fab Four” held the top five positions. 28 One notch down at Number 6 was “Suspicion,” 29 by a virtually unknown singer from Amarillo, Texas, named Terry Stafford. The following week “Suspicion” – a song that sounded suspiciously like Elvis Presley using an alias – moved up to Number 3, wedged in between the Beatles’ “Twist and Shout” and “She Loves You.”3 The saga of how a Texas boy met the British Invasion head-on, achieving almost overnight success and a Top-10 hit, is one of triumph and “Amarillo By Morning” disappointment, a reminder of the vagaries The Life and Songs of Terry Stafford 1 that are a fact of life when pursuing a career in Joe W. Specht music. It is also the story of Stafford’s continuing development as a gifted songwriter, a fact too often overlooked when assessing his career. Terry Stafford publicity photo circa 1964. • Barbara Allen
120 Charles Seeger Versions and Variants of the Tunes of "Barbara Allen" As sung in traditional singing styles in the United States and recorded by field collectors who have deposited their discs and tapes in the Archive of American Folk Song in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. AFS L 54 Edited by Charles Seeger PROBABLY IT IS safe to say that most English-speaking people in the United States know at least one ballad-tune or a derivative of one. If it is not "The Two Sisters, " it will surely be "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"; or if not "The Derby Ram, " then the old Broadway hit "Oh Didn't He Ramble." If. the title is given or the song sung to them, they will say "Oh yes, I know tllat tune." And probably that tune, more or less as they know it, is to them, the tune of the song. If they hear it sung differently, as may be the case, they are as likely to protest as to ignore or even not notice the difference. Afterward, in their recognition or singing of it, they are as likely to incor porate some of the differences as not to do so. If they do, they are as likely to be aware as to be entirely unconscious of having done ·so. But if they ad mit the difference yet grant that both singings are of "that" tune, they have taken the first step toward the study of the ballad-tune. They have acknow ledged that there are enough resemblances between the two to allow both to be called by the same name.
