ATTIKA 7: Guitarist Rusty Coones to Appear on Episode Two of the New DISCOVERY CHANNEL Motorcycle Club Show ‘The Devil’S Ride’ For Immediate Release May 9, 2012 ATTIKA 7: Guitarist Rusty Coones to Appear on Episode Two of the New DISCOVERY CHANNEL Motorcycle Club Show ‘The Devil’s Ride’ New Full-Length ATTIKA 7 Album ‘Blood Of My Enemies’ Hits Stores on July 31, 2012 ATTIKA 7 guitarist Rusty Coones is set to appear on this season of the Discovery Channel’s new motorcycle club series, ‘The Devil’s Ride’. The show premiered yesterday evening and serves as a window into the world of motorcycle clubs, featuring members of San Deigo’s Laffing Devils. Rusty Coones is scheduled to appear in Episode 2 next week, and ATTIKA 7 is scheduled to appear in one of the later episodes as a band. The music of ATTIKA 7 is set to be featured in select episodes throughout the series as well. Entertainment Weekly recently posted an exclusive preview of the show, available for viewing here. ATTIKA 7 is set to release their debut full-length album, Blood of My Enemies on July 31, 2012 with Rocket Science Ventures. The fan-dubbed “super group” features ex- Biohazard vocalist Evan Seinfeld, lead guitarist, notable songwriter and famed (Sons of Anarchy) motorcycle builder Rusty Coones, and bassist Tony Campos, founding member of Static X, who also currently performs in Soulfly, Prong, Possessed, Asesino and Ministry. ATTIKA 7 combines evil sounding riffs, melodic vocal lines, with old school guitar solos and undeniable grooves into a sonic frenzy of outlaw biker counter culture. The band recorded Blood of My Enemies with legendary producer MUDROCK (Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack). Blood of My Enemies is a brutal slab of unrelenting hard rock, with the initial groundwork laid by Rusty Coones in the confines of a federal penitentiary. It was in this unforgiving environment that he penned the songs that would eventually become the band’s uncompromising debut. ATTIKA 7 will take to the road this summer with an ‘in your face’ live show combining all that is good in life: Bikes, Girls and Rock n’ Roll. Stay tuned for tour dates coming soon. • Mapping Social Conflicts in Natural Resources: a Text Mining Study of Extractive Activities
Mapping social conflicts in natural resources: a text mining study of extractive activities Ramiro Albrieu and Gabriel Palazzo Abstract Applying text mining techniques, a methodology was developed to measure the number of social conflicts related to the exploitation of non-renewable natural resources. The study focuses on conflicts in four mining countries (Australia, Canada, Chile and Peru) between 2003 and 2016, based on more than 20,000 articles from the leading newspapers of each country. A statically significant correlation was found between the main index and mineral rents as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP). However, the results should be interpreted with caution since endogeneity issues have not been addressed and the indices could be biased by various, country-specific factors. This study’s main outcome is a database with different indices of soft conflicts related to the exploitation of non-renewables natural resources and its media coverage in Australia, Canada, Chile and Peru. Keywords Social conflict, natural resources, non-renewable resources, mining, statistical data, Australia, Canada, Chile, Peru JEL classification J23, J24, O33 Authors Ramiro Albrieu is an associate researcher in the Economics Department of the Center for the Study of State and Society (CEDES). On the one hand, it can boost government revenues and provide the economy with the necessary income for growth, what Hirschman (1977) called indirect linkages.

  • ATTIKA 7 -- New Metal Band Featuring Biohazard's Evan
For Immediate Release September 26th, 2011 ATTIKA 7 -- New Metal Band Featuring Biohazard's Evan Seinfeld, Soulfly's Tony Campos, Walls of Jericho's Dustin Schoenhofer, and Master Bike Builder, Lead Guitarist and Songwriter Rusty Coones – Recording New Album Now ATTIKA 7 is a brand new force in the ever-evolving heavy metal world, featuring Evan Seinfeld, formerly of Biohazard, lead guitarist, songwriter and famed motorcycle builder Rusty Coones, bassist Tony Campos, founding member of Static X, who also currently performs in Soulfly, Prong, Possessed, Asesino and Ministry, and drummer Dustin Schoenhofer from Walls of Jericho and Bury Your Dead fame. ATTIKA 7 will be releasing their debut album later this year and are currently working on their first video for the single ‘Serial Killer’. The band describes their lyrics and ideology as genuine and conveys a true American outlaw lifestyle. The ATTIKA 7 sound boasts very heavy, down-tuned and melodic harmonies, all the while boasting brutal hooks and grooves. The band draws from several musical influences, including their own additional projects, and has been compared to the likes of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Godsmack, Pantera, and White Zombie. The timeless no-frills songwriting of ATTIKA 7 is set apart from today’s homogenized, derivative copycat bands by so many things, but above all: authenticity. The majority of the album was written by lifetime biker and ATTIKA 7 lead guitarist Rusty Coones while serving a seven-year federal prison sentence for a false conviction. Rather than rat on his friends, Rusty used the tension to teach himself how to play guitar in solitary confinement.

  • Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz
Anna in the Tropics By Nilo Cruz Director's Concept Ofeila says to Marela, “That’s why the writer describes love as a thief. The thief is the mysterious fever that poets have been studying for years.” For me the play is all about the love for something (change, companionship, art, work, etc.) that humanity struggles for, and that ultimately is that “stolen” aspect of who and what we are as individuals. It is Cruz’s words, characters, and the relationship that these characters have with the story Anna Karenina that is the catalyst for their love. It is a political love, a self-love, a love of someone else, and a love for change that drives these characters to create their own endings. Cruz remarked in one of his interviews that, “Cuba has changed tremendously. I have changed, too. I guess sometimes I fear what the impact of going back would be on me.” This is a perfect example of each character in the play. Conceptually, change is ultimately the downfall or co-requisite to the love that these characters emote internally and externally. It becomes the underlying motivation for the story (i.e. the introduction of the cigar roller versus the work of the individual, the fact that “lectores” were removed from factories in 1931, and Conchita’s need to be loved physically versus watching her husband have what she does not). In evoking the lost Cuban-American world of Ybor, Florida cigar factory in the late 1920’s, I want to create a production that is as “novela-like” as the emotions and tribulations as its characters.

Her position in the world of belles lettres has always been partially obscured by the question of Naturalism in Spain. Yet anyone who has read three or four repre sentative novels from her entire literary output realizes that Naturalism is not a dominating feature throughout.

Book Club Kit Collection Anaheim Central Library ENGLISH ADULT FICTION The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (1993) Paulo Coelho's masterpiece tells the mystical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest will lead him to riches far different—and far more satisfying—than he ever imagined. Santiago's journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, of recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, most importantly, to follow our dreams. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (2014) The New York Times bestseller about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II. Marie-Laure lives in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where her father works. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them, they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel. In a mining town in Germany, Werner Pfennig, an orphan, grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find that brings them news and stories from places they have never seen or imagined. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments and is enlisted to use his talent to track down the resistance. Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, Doerr illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another.

• Afro-Colombian Hip-Hop: Globalization, Popular Music and Ethnic Identities
AFRO-COLOMBIAN HIP-HOP: GLOBALIZATION, POPULAR MUSIC AND ETHNIC IDENTITIES DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Christopher Charles Dennis, B.A., M.A. ***** The Ohio State University 2006 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Dr. Abril Trigo, Advisor Dr. Ileana Rodriguez Dr. Fernando Unzueta Advisor Graduate Program in Spanish and Portuguese ABSTRACT As scholars around the globe debate the shortcomings and virtues of economic and cultural globalization, I approach Afro-Colombian hip-hop as a form of testimony to study what young black Colombians – as representatives of a generation at a global crossroads – reveal about the challenges presented by globalization. Evidence indicates that globalization and neoliberal reform have aggravated socio-political ills through intensified warfare, poverty, income inequalities, massive displacement, and violence, among others. These circumstances, in turn, inform much of the Afro-Colombian testimony channeled through hip-hop. I maintain that the content of Afro-Colombian rap, and the circumstances that inspire it, support those who argue that ethnic-racial minorities in the peripheries of the world do not benefit from economic globalization and its anticipated rising tide of wealth and spread of human rights. The dissent and frustration expressed in this music point to youths who are aware that promises of economic distribution, democracy, tolerance, and cultural respect are not and cannot be for everyone. Globalization has also led to cultural transformations and changing ethnic identities, which are very evident among Afro-Colombian urban youth integrated into processes of economic modernization and cultural modernity. I examine various factors ii that currently interpellate Afro-Colombian ethnic identities constructed through music and its practice.
