Within a short distance by car, one can reach the famous California wine country areas of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley, the beautiful Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Parks, and the picturesque coastal towns of Santa Cruz, Carmel, and Monterey along Highway 1. Some of these destinations make for great day trips from Palo Alto, while others would be more thoroughly enjoyed over the course of several days. For more information on California tourism upon your arrival, be sure to check out the nearest California Welcome Center located on the first floor of the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo, just a short drive from Palo Alto. There, staff can help coordinate anything and everything you may want to do, not only in San Francisco, but throughout California.
