TORONTO, April 17, 2015 – HISTORY® announced today that its much anticipated, ten-hour television event series will premiere Monday, May 25th at 9pm ET, coinciding with Memorial Day in the US. The star-studded series details the Texas Revolution against Mexico and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers.

“Texas Rising is a powerful, high quality, scripted historical drama that will bring to life the legendary story of the Texas Revolution,” said Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media. “With the gangbuster success of Hatfields & McCoys, and with such A-list cast telling this gripping history through a contemporary lens, this is sure to be the entertainment event of the year.”

Texas Rising is produced by A+E Studios, ITV Studios America and Thinkfactory for HISTORY. Leslie Greif (Hatfields & McCoys) is executive producer. Two-time Oscar-nominated director Roland Joffé (The Killing Fields, The Mission) is directing with an all-star cast including:

 Bill Paxton (Two Guns, Edge of Tomorrow, Hatfields & McCoys) as , the father of Texas  Brendan Fraser (, Journey to the Center of the Earth) as Billy Anderson, a Texas Ranger with Indian ties  Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, The Place Beyond the Pines) as Lorca, an Alamo survivor seeking brutal revenge  Jeffrey Dean Morgan (, Magic City) as “Deaf” Smith, a deaf and grizzled veteran Texas Ranger with an advanced case of consumption  Thomas Jane (Hung, 61) as James Wykoff, a homesteader who finds himself living in the middle of hostile Indian territory  Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful, Before Night Falls) as President General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the fierce dictator of Mexico  Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill, Chosen) as Mirabeau Lamar, a spirited Texas soldier who helps win the  Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream) as , a grizzled, tough taskmaster of the ranging company  Jeremy Davies (Justified, Lost) as Sergeant Ephraim Knowles, a shifty rogue whose only thought is for his own survival

Further enhancing the way the story unfolds before viewers’ eyes, Texas Rising will air in CinemaScope, or a 235:1 shooting ratio, which allows the event series to be broadcast in a widescreen theatrical format. The series is also shot in 6k digital format, allowing for more information in each frame. This gives the ability not only to shoot at the highest resolution possible with the widest possible lenses, but also at very low light levels to highlight the natural settings.

The Alamo was not the end of the story, it was only the beginning, and Texas Rising details what followed in the fight for an independent Texas. In 1836, west of the Mississippi was considered the Wild West and the Texas frontier was viewed as hell on earth. With colliding cultures all fighting for stakes to this territory, no one was safe. But this was a time of bravery, a time to die for what you believed in and a time to stand tall against the fierce Mexican General Santa Anna and his forces. General Sam Houston, the rag tag Rangers and the legendary "Yellow Rose of Texas,” lead this story of the human will to fight for independence despite nearly insurmountable odds and to claim a piece of history for all eternity.

Texas Rising premieres Monday, May 25th at 9pm ET, with subsequent episodes airing Tuesday, May 26th at 9pm ET, then Mondays at 9pm ET on June 1st, 8th and 15th.
