To win a county senior hurling medal Is possibly the second. Many people would reverse these and argue, as I do, that the winning 01 a county senior hurling title by a parish does more, much more, for the parish spirit and pride than an All-Ireland. Two teams have the chance to raise the spirits to high heavens In their respective parishes today. One, 01 necessity must lose out and hopelully theirs wilt be another day. The attendance included John Moloney, Noel Morris, John Costigan, Pat Moroney, Seamus J., King and Michael TO’Meara. Seamus McCarthy was unable to be present. At the outset John Moloney was unanimously appointed chairman amd Michael O’Meara secretary. The chairman outlined the aims of the group, which were chiefly to honour annually persons over 70 years of age, who had given significant service to the G.A.A. in whatever capacity - player, official, groundsman, jersey carrier, tea maker, referee, umpire, etc. A sample of a framed certificate, which was presented annually in Dublin, was shown by the chairman to the meeting and the secretary undertook to get quotations for same. It was agreed that approximately 40 annual presentations would be made, i.e. an average of 10 per division. The consensus was that the general public should be asked to nominate suitable persons and justify why they were considered worthy. It was agreed that the presentations would be made in Brú Ború, Cashel on November 16th or 23rd and that the evening’s programme would consist of a chat, light refreshments and entertainment before the presentations. • The College GAA Connection Dunamaggin and St. Kieran's
The College GAA Connection Dunamaggin and St. Kieran's College On Sunday 16th April last, two young Dunamaggin men contributed significantly to St. Kieran's College defeating St. Flannan's College, Ennis in the All Ireland Colleges Senior A hurling final. That win gave the College a record 14 Croke Cup titles. The crucial score was a fine individual goal hard earned and well taken by Liam Heffernan from Caherleske. He was assisted by Seaghan O'Neill, who also contributed mightily to a famous Colleges victory. These two, of course, have become accustomed to winning championships in recent years with outstanding Dunamaggin underage teams. In an article of this length it would be impossible to mention every student from Dunnamaggin parish who played hurling and football for the College because there has been a long tradition of students and seminarians who wore the black and white hoops. Students from the parish of Dunnamaggin have played hurling in St. Kieran's College since the beginnings of the school in the early nineteenth century. However Gaelic Games were not formally organised among the Colleges until 1905 and it was only at that stage hurling superseded rugby as the principle game in the school. St. Kierans first took part in the Leinster Colleges championships in hurling and football in 1922. But it was not until 1941 that a Dunnamaggin player featured on a St. Kieran's winning Leinster side. That was Pat O'Neill of Ballintee who played at wing forward on a team captained by Tommy Maher (later Monsignor). Monsignor Pat, now a retired pastor in California, presented Dunnamaggin club with their Clubman of the year trophy.

Both teams mct four years ago when Kil· ruane were winners. Toomevara's last win was in 1991 but have since won two league titles. Our CUrtain-raiser for today's final brings together great rivals Shannon Rovers and Templederry in a vital intermediate ehampionship game. My thanks to all who have worked so hard during 1994 for c.L.G, an Runaf, Micheal 6 Briain, an Cisteoir, Micheal 0 Nuallain and other board members, and also our gate checkers and park committees.

This year our Senior Championship was played on a new (or was it the old) system and it proved to be a great success, bringing great freshness and a renewed interest in hurling to the Division. We were treated to a number of very close enjoyable games, culminating in taday's unique final pairing of Burgess and Kildangan. Both of these team have come from Intermediate ranks as recently as 2004 and 2005 so a new Club name will be inscribed on to the Frank McGrath Cup in 2008. Kildangan's two previous successes were before the present Trophy came into being in 1962. With little form to go on, 1 look forward to a cracking, sporting game and I wish both learns the best 01 luck.
