Presidents Report

The start of the season proved to be more difficult this season than last season. A betting man would have thought that this was not possible. Just when we thought we had all the sides sorted the District threw a last minute curve ball. A late evening of long distance phone calls and text messages ironed out the wrinkles and the teams were set. I hope that next season the directions given by the District are kept and that parents are a little more understanding about the predicament committee members can be placed.

We fielded a strong contingent of junior players with 3 under 10 sides, 2 under 12’s, 3 under 14’s and an under 16’s side. Some players were playing up a couple of age groups to make the whole thing work and in the case of the under 16’s all but 3 would have qualified for the under 14’s competition.

Seniors ended up with 4 teams from 3rd’s through to 6’s. Much like last season despite the numbers of players registered it proved difficult to ensure each grade had eleven players each week.

In the end we won two premierships, Under 14/b’s and Under 12a’s and while winning a premiership is a superb achievement it is not what this game is all about. A special mention must be made of the under 16 side. As previously mentioned they are basically an under 14 side. Despite this they finished minor premiers and fell over at the final hurdle losing the grand final to Wilberforce. A very special achievement.

To those who have helped along the way, I thank you. Those of you that know me well would understand that I dislike highlighting individuals preferring to favour the team but there are always exceptions. Again Honorary Secretary, Sally Buttsworth led the way. Organisational skills, efficiency and commitment are hard enough to find in the paid community but her dedication as a volunteer is unparalleled. The captains and coaches who have to endure the ups and downs of all under their responsibility while ignoring their own issues, your contribution is invaluable. To our group of sponsors whose contribution makes the financial burden upon the Northo family that little bit more palatable. Last but not least to my family. Last season I promised that my coaching days were over. While I may have kept that promise I hadn’t counted on Dan taking up the cause. The sooner he gets a license the better.

I hope to see you all back for next season so the club can continue to build on our strong junior base.

Kindest Regards,

Dave

Secretary’s Report

AND THE WINNER IS..... MOTHER NATURE!

Well we all know what a crazy season this year has been with the weather! Knowing that this is mentioned in nearly all of our individual teams reports I won't go any further with this topic, except to say that "No" I do not have any contact with Mother Nature and if I did I would mention to her that cricket is meant to be a summer sport!

Despite the weather we had a rather successful season kicking off with a hugely attended Orientation Day! To see so many kids and their parents come along to meet the committee and their coaches was outstanding. Thank you to each and every one of you who came! Seeing a turn out like this makes me believe that our "Club Spirit" is being revived!

This year we were fortunate enough to have a huge registration for our Under 10's. I would like to mention our "Super Mum". This lady rang me with intention of registering her child. Once I explained to her that we needed at least 5 more kids she took this as a mission and returned within 24 hours with a full team! You are an amazing woman and I would like to extend huge pat on the shoulder for you!

Both of our Under 12's teams were due to play each other in our rained out Semi Finals. Whilst our Gold team sadly feel to the way side I would like to congratulate you all on an outstanding year. "Courage, determination and respect" were all shown throughout the season and I look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Our Blue team went on to be our Premiership Winners! With an amazing and inspiring fielding session they bowled out Bligh Park for just 24 runs! Each and every one of you showed great commitment and incredible sportsmanship during this game and you should all be so proud of yourselves!

Of our 3 Under 14's teams which were made up of an array of ages, our White team were sadly not quite strong enough to make it into the finals. After watching the players and parents of this team literally hand rake Wellington Oval this year let me tell you, they will be a team to reckon with in years to come! If all players and their families were this committed to the game what an extraordinary world it would be! Well done guys!

Under 14 Blues took off with a shaky start and we had to convince Todd that he would be their coach at the last minute. These guys were a force to reckon with at the Finals and also came off as Premiers! Your team spirit is incredible! Congratulations guys!

Bruce Earle, our "Super Coach" of 14 Gold had a mixed team this year and every one of them should be proud of their achievements! At the last minute they literally clawed into the finals and unfortunately finished 2nd this year! Good luck with next season boys, if we are able to keep you together you will be a force to reckon with!

Our Under 16's team was a composite of all ages! With only 2 legitimate 16's and a variety of other ages this team showed great courage both on the field and off. My family and I were able to watch the final hours of their finals and at no stage did any of there boys give up! They each sat on the side of the field egging on their team mates and even once the game had ended (sadly not as we wished) they all had a huge smile on their faces knowing that they all gave 110%!

I would like to congratulate all four senior teams on making it to the semi finals! Whilst the weather was definitely not our friend it was great to see you all take the field and put in a huge effort!

6th Grade was our only Grand Finalists and was our "father and son". If anyone would like the opportunity to show their children exactly what fun, team spirit and encouragement is about, then this is the team to watch! To see father and son bat together, field together and sit on the sideline together shows what a great game this really is! Whilst the scoreboard did not say that you won this season, I firmly believe that you are all winners!

This year I have received a huge amount of help from my "BBQ" friends! Thank you to the Beahans, Hilders and of course my husband for cooking all of our club BBQ's. Your commitment to our club is wonderful and I hope to see you all at next years BBQ's (with the apron and hat of course, Jenny)!

Our meetings, held on the 2nd Monday of each month, have had a great attendance this year. I won't list everyone's names but I would personally like to thank everyone that came along. The friendships forged through our meetings are invaluable.

I have noticed this year that I have received a lot of varying opinions about how our club or the HDCA could run differently. As I have said to a large amount of people, whilst we all have opinions, unless you are able to act on them or assist with the club a little more, sadly they can not be implemented. The HDCA lost a club this year, being Windsor, and this was predominately due to a lack of participation and commitment from its members. With no one prepared to stand up and take on a position they faced the worst consequence - folding. With this in mind I would hope that maybe a few more of you would be able to participate in the wellbeing of our club in the future. It doesn't take much time, just attendance to our meetings and maybe cook a sausage or two?

This year Karen took the role once again as Treasurer. Whilst I know you don't believe you did much to help I would like to say a sincere "thank you". You took on this role when no one else would and have been a great support to me. Without this I would surely be in a mental institute by now!

What a roller coaster this year has been for "my other husband" and I. Dave thank you for putting up with my emotions and being able to add your somewhat dry humor where needed. I 5

6 0 hope that everyone realizes exactly what a commitment is needed to be President and appreciate all that you do! Thank you also to Liz and the kids for answering my never ending calls and for accepting our Cricket Club as part of your family.

Without my family this year I am not sure how I would have coped. From mopping up my tears, accepting that I am not home on the 2nd Monday of each month (another plug for our meetings) to coming along to the exciting Grand Finals, my husband and kids have copped it all! Trent and Kaylee thank you for your support once again. Hopefully one day I will be able to support your guys during your Committee years!

And my dear Cameron, you are my rock! You have not only being my number one fan but also helped out with the vacuuming when I was caught up with cricket, cooked dinner when I was at meetings, ironed when I was so exhausted from being up all night trying to piece teams together, wiped my tears when things didn't go quite right, written emails when I could not concentrate any more and been our clubs Head BBQ Chef. Thank you just does not seem enough for all that you have helped and supported me with!

Well now that 2011/12 season is over, shall we start preparing for 2012/13 season?

8 rd 3 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 4th SEMI-FINALIST

Like many other players around, it was a frustrating season. Mainly due to the weather; but it has to be said that this team showed more promise than results would indicate. It was a pleasure to captain this team and have the chance of playing with some new players from the other grades too. Thank you to the players who filled in throughout the season. As at times we had players pull out late in the week; on the morning of the matches and of course players leaving early for work; parties and mardis gras (Dan……).

Leading up to Christmas we won some terrific games, mainly on the back of our bowling and fielding feats, but we failed to really challenge the teams ahead of us. This team has the potential like any other I guess, but we have some terrific batsmen who showed glimpses of this throughout the season. For example there were only three 50’s in the season, along with some forties. We really missed the bigger scores to take us on further. If we look at the averages of the top batsmen, only three players averaged more than 20; so that is not going to win many finals. And yes I include myself. But I know that all of us have that improvement in our game. It was very pleasing to see Andrew, Aaron, Andrew and Daniel score some runs at times this year‐ they all looked very good as did others, but these guys got some decent scores. We needed the consistency and the concentration to go along with it. Every batsmen looked good at times (even Stiffy, Psycho and Pig) but looking good is not good enough as we all know‐ long innings and partnerships win matches.

9 rd 3 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 4th SEMI-FINALIST The game I single out is the semi. We only had one day to beat those blokes (we won’t mention their names) and we almost did it. They were scared stiff and showed that by not even trying to chase the runs….even though they didn’t need to, it almost cost them a win. We batted well on this as we played positive cricket after losing the toss and Andrew and Aaron got us to 5/136 off 38 overs. This was a great score considering the rain over the previous day and the outfield being very thick. We couldn’t breakthrough early with the quicks, but our spinners got 6 between them and I thought we had them on toast‐ but we couldn’t clean up the rest and lost. In the end they were 6/80 off 63 overs…..But this was in my opinion our best game as we played positive and who knows with another of hour play could have got the cash. This is the potential we have.

It was terrific to have Evan come back and also James who played a few matches during the end of the season. I hope these two players come back again as with a season under their belt they will continue to improve and hopefully score heavily with bat and ball. Jeff Dryden didn’t live up the heights he promised‐ as being 4 foot nothing and with hands as hard as a rock he could not catch very well….his batting showed some promise. We didn’t hear much from him when fees were due……..

Matt Rose made his debut in 3rds and along with the older guys, has enough potential to go places. Again I hope he comes back next season and does the hard work again. His bowling was very useful; and showed he could mix it with the other teams. With some time batting and confidence he can build those large scores.

Special mention to our wicket keepers Andrew and Daniel. These guys did well‐ they kept well taking some good catches and stumping’s and also putting up with Psycho’s leg side rubbish and also some of the fruit Jeff and Aaron bowled. We did field well most of the time, however there were some issues catching in slips. No names mentioned here fellas..…you know who you are.

Our bowlers were the most pleasing aspect of the season‐ maybe it was the resemblance of Psycho and Rod Bayne. Seriously Psycho and Pig (what gr8 names for these male models) got us off to some wonderful starts with the ball. Psycho used his aggression whilst Pig used his swing and guile. It was a big loss to have the Pigster leave for North Queensland‐ he is a legend of this great club. I have no doubt Pig would of assisted us to win a couple more matches even if he had a sore hand. We were all wondering how Pig did hurt that hand. Four of our bowlers took 13 or more wickets and our strike rates were very good. But it allowed us to use Scott, Matt and also introduce Jebal (stiffy) to the team. Stiffy was a terrific addition and he again should continue to improve if he comes back again. I know his work may not allow this but he was very good with the ball and also batted well.

This team has some quality spinners. Waddo as we know is a legend with the ball‐ and he showed again how to get the breakthrough; by being patient, consistent and putting the ball

10 rd 3 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 4th SEMI-FINALIST on the spot. Evan also bowled some good spells, with accuracy and good turn and hopefully he continues this next year. Aaron and Turtle will also show more variety next season‐ as they both have the ability to get wickets. Turtle’s spell in the semi was inspiring, as he showed what he can do when he bowls consistently. Aaron too has the ability and maybe with some more consistency and variety in flight he will be a force along with Waddo and Evan.

I say thank you to Aaron for stepping up for me when I was away and unable to play. He was more than capable and did a fine job‐ he needs to keep that 20c coin we always won the toss with at Turnbull…mind you it didn’t always guarantee a win but it was a super coin.

Well done to all of the other players across the grades for their efforts and congratulations to 6ths on making the final‐ that is always a feat and maybe you can go one step closer in 2012/13 like all teams.

Thank you to the committee‐ it is really a thankless job you all do, but I appreciate it a lot and on behalf of the team we say a huge thank you. I am talking about Sally, David and Karen for their drive and support; attending meetings; vouching for our club; organising gear; chasing up players and captains for money and reports…..and the rest. Also to the coaches of junior teams as we need to keep these children coming through and encouraging them to play this great game and continue to improve their game and enjoy it for the games sake.

Have a good winter,

Todd Miladinovic

12 th 4 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 2nd SEMI-FINALIST

It was a really good year of cricket. That might sound strange given our exit in the semi‐finals, the amount of wet weather and our agonising, but ultimately unsuccessful, quest to secure the minor premiership. It was a great year because the team was united by the desire to enjoy playing cricket and to encourage each other to improve. It was a privilege to lead a team that was motivated to put team success ahead of individual goals.

I assumed the captaincy in round 5 after Frank Read elected for personal reasons to stand down from the team unless we found ourselves short of players. Frank returned for a couple of games after Christmas and was instrumental is securing some of our better victories of the season. It is always a pleasure to step onto the field with Frank. Being a novice captain (well it had been at least 20 years) l enjoyed the guidance offered by Dave Filmer, Phil Dowling and Glenn Vallis and the pointed but sometimes obscure tips provided by Andrew Sinclair.

For the younger brigade the theme of the season was growth. Mat Vallis stepped up with the ball and displayed a novel approach to getting his eye in when at bat(6). Oggy did useful things with the ball as expected but surprised most with some valuable batting displays. Ben Frame justified his promotion to 4th grade and won't spend much time there. Dan Filmer didn't really surprise so much as relieve by revealing the talent that his fans know he has and is showing the self belief that is essential to his craft. What can you say about Pat Johson? An absolute joy to have in the team! He kept us entertained in the field with his endless and inane chatter and offers to bowl from both ends. He kept his head up even when his form was down. Kyle Smith scored his maiden half century. It won't be his last. Chris Manion showed signs of a burgeoning talent that needs time to mature and Glenn Vallis is a fine batsman who will improve with age. Special mention goes to Nico Johnson who showed up with his whites most weeks

13 th 4 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 2nd SEMI-FINALIST on the off chance that we might be short in the field. I will never forget the towering catch this young tyro took against Bligh Park. I reckon he is going to be some cricketer.

Our more mature player also gave a good account of themselves, led by our "grumpy stumpy" Dave Filmer who showed surprising agility with the gloves. Phil Dowling came out of retirement and showed all his old mastery with the ball and I suspect was taking batting lessons during his time on the bench. Brett Frame made an all too brief visit to our team before succumbing to injury. His blazing 60 against Bligh Park was breathtaking. Andrew Sinclair was like an arthritic tiger in the field and destroyed Richmond in the first round taking 4 for 1. l would like to thank Scott Seckold, Seb Reay, and Blake Fraser for being fine members of the team before being regraded. As usual, there were times when we could not muster a full team and i thank Mark Thomson, michael Mannell and Jarrod Lefevre for their assistance. We even got Steve Cross and son Evan onto the field for one game and they both made telling contributions to a memorable victory.

Thanks to everyone for making my job so easy and enjoyable!

So there you have it. Nothing for the trophy cabinet but a fantastic year full of memories to be cherished. Who could ever forget the effort to resurface the field at Breakaway from under a lake or...

Cheers, Parko.

15 th 5 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 3rd SEMI-FINALIST

IT WAS a season that promised so much for the fifth grade team, and unfortunately for reasons beyond our control, it ended up delivering so little.

We started the season well, and with a strong squad that we thought would compete well with any team in the competition, and for the first eight rounds, that’s exactly how it worked out – there were three teams that were very evenly matched.

Then it all started to go wrong. Jebal Williams, the best player in our team, but by no means the best in the grade, was unceremoniously ripped from us, while other, better credentialed players managed to survive, with the reasons given still beyond our comprehension.

Despite our best efforts, this travesty crippled us, and although we continued to fight hard throughout the season, our hopes of being a realistic premiership chance were gone.

That we still managed to finish third despite everything was a credit to everybody in the team, but there was one more kick in the guts with the scheduling of our semi final on the wettest ground in the district on the back of two months of rain – a decision that eventually gave us no chance of pinching a win.

I would really like to thank all those guys who helped us out this year, especially the youngsters Lachlan Boyle and Jarrod LeFevre, who were there almost every week and were always willing to play when called upon, giving their all and producing some excellent, and on a couple of occasions match‐winning results.

Thanks also to Dan Filmer, Tony Joyce, Seb Reay, Ben and Brett Frame, Matt O’Sullivan and Brayden Symington for filling in at various stages, to Glenn Powers for his support and getting Nick to and from games.

At the top of the list sits Di Bayne, who was an extremely valuable assistance as our scorer for the first half of the season until she left us to chase a beautiful girl! How many times do we say this in a cricket club?

16 th 5 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 3rd SEMI-FINALIST Congratulations Grandma, and also to Grandpa Rod and the blessed parents Kayla and Loz on the safe arrival of Sienna during the Christmas break.

I again congratulate the fifth grade team on their efforts all season and I hope you are not as disillusioned as I am, but rest assured, this is in no way directed towards the North Richmond Cricket Club, which I love, and is the greatest, most successful, most envied team in the competition.

It is with sadness that I have played my last match for this great club, certainly in the HDCA, due to my move to Perth to take up an opportunity to advance to the next step in my football commentary career.

I would like to sincerely thank everybody I’ve played and worked with in my six seasons at the club for providing me with some of the most unforgettable moments of my cricket career and my life – especially the two premierships in 2005‐06 and 2007‐08 and the opportunity to captain a team in this great club in 2009‐10 and 2011‐12, as well as personal milestones such as two 50s and a five‐wicket haul (achievements I never thought possible for me).

I wish you all the best of luck for the future and I can assure you I’ll return from time to time to catch up with you all and once again shout….

GO NORTHO

The 2011‐12 North Richmond Fifth Grade squad was:

Rod ‘Quasimodo’ Bayne – My right hand man and an invaluable support for me throughout the season. Whether it was through his excellent wicketkeeping, quality batting that yielded two half centuries, or his single‐minded commitment to training, Rocket was always there and I don’t think I could have done it without him. Although it is great that he can no longer have a crack at Terry for being the only grandfather in the team! Thanks for everything mate.

Matthew ‘Ginger’ Beggs – Showed glimpses of the excellent form that yielded 33 wickets a couple of years ago to top our wicket taking tally with 23 this time. He was a reliable performer with the ball, and his great hands in the field almost dragged us over the line in a couple of matches, not the least the semi final. The best No.11 in the grade, not that he always got to show it.

Todd ‘Toddy2Hotty’ Boyle – Was another great help for me behind the scenes, and was often solely responsible for ensuring we didn’t play short through being able to obtain the services of a group of junior boys who added plenty of enthusiasm and were a delight to play with. Got his hands going in the slips towards the end of the season, but circumstances meant he didn’t always get to show his best with the bat.

Les ‘Carpet’ Cass – Slipped into the team for a few matches as a fill‐in and became a regular until work commitments took him away at the end of the season. His experience with the ball was crucial, with a five‐ wicket haul that secured us one victory, and a lively innings that gave us a fighting shot at another. His words of encouragement towards the young bowlers was also a godsend.

Terry ‘Top Cat’ Conoulty – The most experienced head in the team, despite this fact, he continued to be the only player to put his hand up to open the batting week in, week out. You always knew what you were going to get, and he gave it his all every week. Once again I didn’t bowl him probably as much as I should have, but there was never a word of complaint. A pleasure to play with over many years.ville ‘Manpower’ Drury – Another man who offers no surprises, but a whole‐hearted flat out effort every time he takes the field. Nev is an excitement machine who I have loved playing with and watching play. Kenny is a legend of this club, and

17 th 5 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 3rd SEMI-FINALIST Nev is very quickly heading along the same path. Thanks very much mate. You are the heart and soul of any team, and I just hope Mick gives you more chances to play cricket next season.

Blake ‘Wiggles’ Fraser – Came back to us from fourth grade in the early rounds on his return from several years away. A more than capable performer who has the ability to turn games, unfortunately his passion was quickly dimmed again by narrow‐minded oppositions who targeted him with an issue that was solved years ago. Needs a baseball mitt in the field though!

Ryan ‘Ryno’ Johnston – The most naturally gifted player in the team, Ryno would be the first to admit his season never reached any great heights. I put it down to being unable to fire himself up at a level that should be below him. Showed glimpses of his class with bat and gloves, and will be a top player if he can keep his frustrations in check. Should have won the batting awards.

Mat ‘Lozza’ Laurence – Playing his first season of cricket, Loz was a valued addition. Started as an opener, which didn’t suit, but then discovered he was a dangerous seam bowler who caused plenty of problemss. Then we found out he could field in the slips, but then we lost him at Christmas to a Tour of Duty. Hopefully he returns next year and picks up where he left off.

Nick ‘Austin’ Powers – A youngster who grew into his position as the season went on. Like Loz, he morphed from an opening batsman into a first change/opening bowler, and showed lots of potential with the ball, which I’d love to see develop further. Will be a very handy batsman once he gets his defence and patience working a bit better, but he has the ability to be a very good cricketer for this club.

Peter ‘Pirate’ Richardson – My go‐to man. Despite often suffering Woolworths‐related absences (learn to say no mate!), he was our best player across the course of the season. A top quality opening bowler, outstanding lower middle order bat and a brilliant fielder, Pirate has it all. Took on more responsibility than he should have had to, and deserved better results than he got.

Scott ‘’ Seckold – Came back to us from fours mid‐season and showed his ability with an unbeaten 65 in his first game before snaring a couple of wickets in his second. Then he disappeared for six weeks, and was sorely missed. He returned for the semi but was obviously rusty and the conditions didn’t suit. Has improved out of sight since I first saw him in under 16s.

Harry ‘Potter’ Stever – Rivals Ryno for undoubted talent, and you can sometimes forget how young he still is, having played with him a couple of years ago. He is a quality and at times brutal batsman who just needs to eliminate the brain snaps and rushes of blood that bring him undone just when he looks set for a big score. Has to get to training regularly and work on his bowling, which I still believe can become a quality addition to his armory.

Jebal ‘Stiffy’ Williams – Hadn’t played serious cricket for 13 years before joining us this year, and I hope his experiences don’t put him off the game for another 13. An outstanding player with both bat and ball, making hard hitting 50s and running through batting line‐ups when he got his accuracy right. I feel bad and partly responsible that you were put through all this because I told you how good a club and a competition this way to play in. I was right on one point, but on the other, all I can do, mate, is apologise, and thank you for taking it as well as you did, going to third grade and putting in such a big effort there.

6th Grade enjoyed one of their most successful seasons for some years. Starting out with 6 fathers and sons, one uncle and nephew, left me as the team’s only orphan after Nicho decided that after a few seasons playing with the old man was enough.

From the outset we enjoyed success. I’m not so sure that the 20/20 format we played for the first few games was up to scratch. It was very clear that some captains didn’t have a clue about the rules and I hope that if we play the same next season, the rules are with the clubs well before the season starts.

We won all our early games including a thriller at Royal Glossodia where, following a century by the Glossodia captain, Paul Mizzi smashed his own hundred in about 80 minutes to give us an outright.

The wealth of talent of the younger players was very apparent from the outset. Each week one or more of them would step up with the bat or ball. Regrettably, Ben Frame was graded up and we lost him and Brett. There is no doubt that Ben is potentially a top class bowler but despite his loss, Tom Beahan, Harry Ridgewell, Jim Henry, and Jake Hilder provided excellent fast/medium bowling with Ryan Mizzi contributing with his spinners. The boys also contributed with some great performances with the bat.

20 th 6 Grade POSITION ON TABLE: 1st Runners-up

I should add that the “senior” team members also did their bit. Paul Mizzi was outstanding, ably assisted by Chris Beahan, Dave Ridgewell, Rob Henry and Cameron Richards. Unfortunately we didn’t see much of Jeff Hilder or Nev Drury whose work commitments took them away for many games.

We only lost two games all season. Sadly, one of those was the grand final where, despite a heroic innings from Ryan Mizzi in difficult conditions we went down narrowly to our favorite opponents, the RAAF. But that’s cricket. I know that at least for the younger members of the team they will no doubt win premier’s caps in the future. The have heaps of talent.

My special thanks to Annette Frame and Lynn Beahan for scoring. It is of immense assistance to the captain knowing that this is being done and being done properly. Also to Chris Beahan for scoring and his invaluable assistance in organizing team numbers and fill in players and Tom Beahan who kept the My Cricket reports up to date. Thank you also to the parents and team supporters who turned out each week and were just terrific.

I appreciate the contribution of our junior players particularly Declan Horne and Jeremy McFadden Jim Wilson, Jordan Merrick, and Billy Hogan who filled in very ably when we were short on numbers.

I should also make special mention of our sponsors Drury Water Carriers for their support and the pleasure of the company of the Drury family for our games.

I’m sure that the whole team enjoyed their cricket during the season. It was certainly a pleasure to captain such a fine team.

22 Under 16’s POSITION ON TABLE: 1st Runners-up

I will start out by saying this is a group of very fine young men. It has been an absolute pleasure coaching and being around them for the season. The boys displayed great determination and commitment in all aspects of the game. They were determined to improve and to succeed, this was evident in the way they trained and played the games. They always attempted what was asked of them to the best of their abilities, and in the true spirit of cricket. The boys worked extremely well as a team, gelling well and were all committed to the aims of each match which resulted in them losing only one game throughout the regular season. The boys took out the minor premiership but unfortunately in a game that we all would rather forget they went down in the final… lookout next year!

The team was made up of a mix of different age groups, as there wasn’t enough under 16’s registered to form a team. The club asked the younger players to play up in the older age group and they agreed to play. We had a real mixed bag with only one true under 16, five under 15’s and six under 14’s. This meant at the start of the season we had the majority of the team still only 13 years old! Without doubt these younger boys were a little apprehensive at the thought of playing against the older boys. However, they took on the challenge with great courage and determination, proving a little intestinal fortitude can get you a long way!

I would like to thank the Committee for their faith and support throughout the season. Thank you to the Kurrajong Family Grocer for sponsoring the team, without the support of local businesses the boys wouldn’t have such a great competition to play in. I appreciated the help and support of my fellow coach Chris Beahan… top job. A big thank you to all the parents for your great support especially Jo Biondi for scoring every game and Brett McFadden for helping with warming the boys up and your great photography.

Congratulations to all the boys that made representative teams. Ben Frame‐ U/16 HDCA Rep Player. Tom Beahan, James Henry, Jake Hilder, Harry Ridgewell‐ U/14 HDCA Rep Players. Max Biondi was selected in the HDCA U/14 team for the Newcastle Carnival along with Tom, Jake, James & Harry. Jake Hilder and Harry Ridgewell made the Hawkesbury U/16 Green Shield Development Squad. Well done to Harry Ridgewell for winning the Jack Chegwyn Shield Most outstanding Junior HDCA Rep Player.

23 Under 16’s POSITION ON TABLE: 1st Runners-up Tom Beahan:Tom proved to be one of our top 6 batsmen. He has worked hard on his game and has developed a great technique that will see him get some big runs in the future. Tom is one of the most consistent bowlers you will see. His ability to control his line and length has been a great asset this year. He had a great game with the ball against Bligh Park in the last round controlling the run rate… which led to us winning the game. Tom is eligible to play another 2 years of junior cricket!

Max Biondi; Max was our glove man this year. Without doubt he was the best keeper in the competition. He did a brilliant job in each and every game. He had a big step up to play in this competition with the ball really hitting his gloves hard from our quick bowlers. Max has a great eye for the ball and can hit big, and has been working on a more complete technique this season. Max will be one of the best wicket keeper batsmen leading in to senior cricket. He is eligible to play another 2 years of junior cricket!

Connor Chapple; At our very first training session we asked the boys who bowled spin… no answer. So we asked if anyone would consider changing to spin and to his credit Connor put his hand up and volunteered. Connor has got talent and potential at leg spin bowling and produced some great spells throughout the season. He convinced us to bowl pace in the very last game of the season and with his first ball clean bowled the opposition’s best batsman! He had some promising moments with the bat and was always willing to get in and have a go!

Ben Frame: Ben had an absolute stellar season, with bat and ball. As the only true U/16 in the team he was the pillar of strength the boys required at times throughout the season. He was easily the best new ball baller in the competition. He went for very few runs and got a stack of wickets including a 5/24 in the first game. He was more than handy with the bat scoring a lovely half century in one game. He is growing into an imposing young man with the most fluent and efficient bowling action you will see… keep an eye on Big Ben in senior cricket he has a big future in the game!

James Henry: James had a cracker of a season with the bat. He is the most entertaining left handed batsman to watch at the crease. He moved up the order to opener for the majority of the season belting 300 runs at an average of 42.9 with a highest score of 85. He is a brilliant bowler and was an asset to our bowling attack with his left handed seam bowling. He has a great arm and is deadly whether in the outfield or in close. Simply a brilliant young cricketer! He is eligible to play another 2 years of junior cricket!

Jake Hilder: Jake has had his best year of junior cricket. He started the season with a great 58 in our first game along with some great innings throughout the year. He is the first player to put his hand up to open the innings and he regularly did so. Jake was our back up wicket keeper throughout the season, regularly donning the gloves doing a fine job! Jake bowled some very high quality in swing seam bowling that was most affective. He was our vice‐captain this season supporting and assisting the captain and coaches in a fine manner fitting of the position. Jake constantly works on his game and he is one of the most stylish and technically sound young batsmen you will see. He is eligible to play another 2 years of junior cricket!

Billy Hogan: Billy has one of the most distinctive and unusual bowling actions you will see. His action may not be text book but he can generate genuine pace and always looks dangerous. We always knew that Billy was capable of causing a batting line up some grief, but he struggled with his consistency… well didn’t that change one Saturday morning! We were playing an undefeated Wilberforce… enter one B Hogan to bowl and bowl he did! Billy tore through the top and middle order taking 5/11 which led to a great victory! Unfortunately this was Billy’s last game with us, as his family moved to Townsville.

Jeremy McFadden: You would be hard pressed to find a more determined bowler then Jeremy. We were blessed to have bowlers in our team of the calibre of Jeremy and he was one of our opening bowlers. The higher level of cricket this season has made him a more mature and complete bowler. A brilliant fielder, with a great set of hands and a top arm. He has been working on his batting at training ready to take a heap of wickets and plenty of runs next season!

24 Under 16’s POSITION ON TABLE: 1st Runners-up Harry Ridgewell: Harry did a great job as one of opening bowlers with his outswing pace bowling. He batted in the top 4 and was the captain of the team. Harry’s leadership, experience and presence during the games were terrific. He has great rapport with the players, opposition and umpires. He is a very fine young cricketer and is eligible to play another 2 years of junior cricket!

Matti Shuster: Matti had a great season with the bat, scoring a lovely half century. His commitment to the team was brilliant. He worked hard at training to improve his cricket and it paid off, his game has improved immensely. Matti can be a hand full with the ball and proved to be at times this season. With a bit more work Matti could improve to be a brilliant young cricketer, who has another 2 years of junior cricket!

Phil Stanton: Phil has one of the most straight up and down bowling actions you will see. He has the ability to move the ball very late which combines with the bounce he generates making him a very hard bowler to get away. Phil took an absolutely brilliant catch that saw the end of one of Bligh Parks top batsmen… we went on to win that game which cemented our Minor Premiership. Phil’s has been working on his batting at training and has really improved…if he keeps working on it we will see him hit some good runs next season!

James Wilson: I will start out by saying the parents in our team do not park near the nets at McMahon’s Park… Jimmy is not a little boy and he doesn’t hit the ball softly, so anything outside the nets is not safe! He is a great character with an infectious approach to the game! He has been working hard at harnessing his power with the bat and ball… and is making great progress. If he keeps working on his technique he has the potential to be a real handful in his last year of junior cricket.

Well done to all the boys it has been a real pleasure!

Cheers

Dave

26 Under 14 Gold POSITION ON TABLE: 2nd Runners-up

After three consecutive premierships, this season saw the core of the side that had been together since Under 10’s broken up. The shortfall of players in Under 16’s lead to an opportunity for a number of the Club’s leading Under 14 players to move into the 16’s. This left only four of the previous seasons premiership side in tact and hence a new side was formed from boys coming up from the 12’s.

The challenge was then to bring a bunch of boys together and form them into a well oiled and disciplined team. Round 1 highlighted the challenge ahead of us with the boys wandering all over the field and as a result our opposition were able to easily pick off runs and hit boundaries. Add to this that nearly half of our side were unable to train with us until before Christmas due to representative training clashing with our training day, made the task even harder. However within a few weeks our fielding structures started coming together with the boys gaining an understanding in their roles and the subsequent pressure that can be placed on batting sides by sticking to these structures.

The ridiculous amount of one day 25 overs per side games was a frustrating element to this seasons fixtures. With our side being a strong batting team, on average only five or six of the boys had a bat each weekend, some of which were only for a few balls at the end of an innings. The bigger and stronger sides benefited in the early rounds however our boys rallied well and were in fourth place come the split in the competition to an A and B division. From here the boys played some really good cricket in the two day games. But as we all know the weather all bar ruined the season and we just didn’t get any quality cricket after the Christmas break.

27 Under 14 Gold POSITION ON TABLE: 2nd Runners-up To the credit of the boys, they scraped into the grand final on quotient by a handful of runs. Disappointingly, we left probably our worst performance with the bat until the final but sometimes that happens in finals. It didn’t matter because in my mind these boys were the best TEAM in the comp but were unfortunately beaten by an individual in the final.

A number of our boys went on to higher honors this season. Lachlan Jones represented the district in the U/12 Cawsey Shield plus toured to Lismore after Christmas for the Far North Coast Carnival. Nixon Inskip (Captain), Ryan Mizzi, Declan Horne and Jack Ferris all played in the U/13 Gee Shield for Hawkesbury while Ryan (Captain), Declan and Jack all played in the Ballina Carnival after Christmas. Alex Earle represented Hawkesbury in the U/14 Moore Shield and followed up in the Newcastle Carnival in the new year. Nixon Inskip and Ryan Mizzi went another step and were selected as part of the Emerging Blues squad.

Surrounding these twelve boys is a support group which enables the boys to play their cricket every weekend. A big thank you to our experienced and expert voice from the scorers box in Wayne Holt. Once again without your support on and off the field with scoring, Mycricket, assistance in coaching and your wealth of cricket knowledge, this just wouldn’t happen. In Wayne’s very occasional absence, Lisa Horne stepped willingly into the scorers role and assisted brilliantly. Thanks Lisa. Thank you to our band of parents who helped throughout the season, including Wayne Tilden, Kevin Inskip, Paul Mizzi and John Webber. To all the parents and grandparents of the boys, thank you for your invaluable support. North Richmond Cricket Club committee, in particular Sally Buttsworth and Dave Filmer, thank you for your constant effort in making this cricket club a great place to play cricket.

Our player list was as follows.

Alex Earle – A welcome return to form this season and rejuvenated love of the game. The most experienced cricketer in the side, he Captained the side very well. Scored runs consistently (just under 200 for the season) and kept wicket in good style.

Jack Ferris – A very energetic and talented all round cricketer. Took on the opening batting role and embraced it. Attacking batsman with improvement throughout the season with his decision making of when to attack and when to defend. Brilliant in the field.

Liam Holt – Another of our more seasoned cricketers. Liam’s off spinners continued to improve this season and bowled some really good spells towards the end of the season. A good team player who on occasions, sacrificed his own time at the crease.

Declan Horne – Became on of our ‘go to’ players with the ball when games were in the balance. Bowled consistent out swingers with excellent line and length. With the bat, offered dogged defence when required and batted unselfishly in some large partnerships.

Nixon Inskip – An extraordinarily talented young cricketer. Bowls brilliant leg spin including a variety of balls matched with accuracy. Patience here remains the secret to further success. Attacking free scoring batsman scoring over 200 runs for the season.

Lachlan Jones – Playing a year above his age group and as quiet as a church mouse, Lachlan performed outstandingly all season. His consistent line and length bowling bagged him wickets on a regular basis, including two 3 fors.

28 Under 14 Gold POSITION ON TABLE: 2nd Runners-up Sean McGee – A team player with a fantastic attitude. Sean dislocated his shoulder early in the season, yet still turned up on Saturday mornings for a number of weeks to support his team mates. He was an inspiration to what it means to be a part of a team.

Jordan Merrick – As always, Jordie plays a consistent all round role within the team. On occasions with both the bat and ball, he excelled with either some lusty hitting or snaring a bag of wickets. He is still more than happy to impart his vast knowledge of movies whilst standing at square leg!

Ryan Mizzi – Developing into a quality and very consistent cricketer. Scored over 260 runs including three 50’s. One of the stand out batsman in our side. Has the ability to play shots to all parts of the ground. Solid year with the keeping gloves.

Jack Shuster – A big step up this season for Jack and by seasons end he had improved immensely. Smoothed out his bowling stride over the Christmas break and gained a couple of yards of pace in doing so, along with plenty of wickets. Handy big hitting middle order batsman

Sam Tilden – A pleasure to coach. Just a great attitude and always has a smile on his face. Bowled full and straight and earned a spot in our bowling top order. Took some handy wickets during the season including the districts leading run scorer.

Harrison Webber – Although stats may not show it, Harrison continued his improvement this season in all facets. Plays a very straight bat and times the ball nicely. Stay patient and the runs will come. His leg spinners continued to improve and is now bowling at a consistent level.

Although I felt frustrated that I was unable to spend quality time this season with the boys to develop their cricket, mostly due to the wet weather and district rep training, I hope that all the boys have enjoyed this season and taken something from it. My hope is that they can appreciate that if you both train and play cricket in a disciplined manner, with a never say die attitude (in other words always try your hardest, no matter what the circumstances) and whilst always respecting your opposition, you can gain more from the game and ultimately enjoy it even more.

30 Under 14 blue POSITION ON TABLE: 1st premiers

A very unusual season with a split comp and the weather rather on the unfriendly side, it was fantastic to finish as minor premiers & champions for 2011/12.

Every player had something to offer to the team, both on & off the field and a great spirit showed by each player added to the developing strength of great team mateship. As a coach I was proud at the way they showed respect to the other sides and officials & stayed focussed on enjoying every game with their mates, regardless of a win or loss outcome.

Each player was given the same opportunities with the bat & ball with which resulted in some terrific individual PB’s throughout the season ranging from a few 4 for’s, number of catches taken, batting high scores, number of N.O.’s & boundaries found. It was certainly a pleasure to see the faces of the players who achieved these & they now know that they can achieve new goals with a little hard work in the nets and on the field.

I’d like to thank the efforts of our wonderful group of parents who all helped make this season enjoyable, & special thanks to Elke & Carolyn for their commitment to the task of keeping score, Paul for help with training & umpiring & our sponsors , the Bruzzese Family of Costas Meats.

A wonderful end to a terrific & enjoyable season & I hope that this inspires the boys enough to want to continue playing this great game.

Looking forward to doing it all again next season.

Todd Boyle.

31 Brytan DeMattia

Brytans accumulative years of play in both club & district levels are certainly shaping him to be a mature & reliable player. As captain for the most part, he organized his team well & when counted upon, brought the team home with the bat. The most memorable of these times being in the grand final where a low scoring target was set & our top order in trouble, he batted extremely sensibly with Lachlan Boyle for a great partnership to bring the team home to victory. Its always great to know we have that ability in this team & Brytan is certainly top of this order.

Brendan Stone

Every season, Brendan turns up with a smile that’s even bigger than the one before. The same goes with his attitude to cricket & his own goals, this season doubling both his batting high score & total run count. A wonderful improvement, although he missed the grand final due to a date with Disneyland, I could see him smiling and part of our team as I texted through the results. A player, A gentleman & a Friend. ‐ A real cricketer.

Cameron Everard

Cameron migrated from the former Windsor club to join our team for the start of the season & from his first day at training, fitted straight in with the boys. He improved greatly from a disappointing start in the first 4 games, finally finding his feet & bat as a middle order batsman as I knew he had the potential to be. He has proved to be a great team player & a reliable set of hands in the field & I am sure he will explode into the next season when it comes around again. Good luck mate, the talent is there.

Connor Josephson

This was Connors first season of cricket & like most new comers, soon realized there’s plenty to learn both on & off the field. Connors first game saw him take a terrific catch in the gully off a hard hitting Bligh Park ‘A’ team & some great return throws from the deep proved he was more than capable in the field. Although batting & bowling figures eluded the score sheets, there’s a bucket load of raw talent there & once he learns the necessity of cricket patience & concentration, I’m sure he’ll explode onto all the charts.

Hamish O’Rourke

Hamish’s season saw improvements in his bowling, something I know he had concerns with. True to his nature though, he quietly went about improving this & to his credit (but possibly not knowledge), achieved those results. Whilst it wasn’t his best season with the bat, I have full confidence that his attitude towards improvement will see him come back next season in memorable fashion. Open your stance, move the feet & relax a little – The boundaries will find you.

32 Jack Hobill

Jack is a wonderful all round player & usually quite reliable with the bat, he waits in awe for that perfect delivery to send to the boundary with one 6 & twelve 4’smade in this shortened season. His best bowling during the comp was 4‐14 and as usual, he likes to leave everything to the end where in the grand final he took 4 wickets for 3 runs in his first three over spell, to see the opposition all but demolished at 7/18 after only 18 overs. Jack never really pushes himself & I’m sure if he really commits, his overall performance for the district champion points tally, will see him top this ladder instead of his contented 3rd place.

Jarrod LeFevre

A ‘Champion Player’ finishing No.1 on points for the season. Jarrod came to our team this season & instantly settled in, bringing with him experience & maturity to certainly take on the senior roles of a team. To his credit, he didn’t bring the disappointments as had been his previous experiences & focused on his own goals & wants from the game he obviously loves. This can only shape him well for a great career ahead. A ‘No Nonsense’ player, great organizer, reliable hands, frightening deliveries & a sensible batter – Just why the representative selectors missed him beggars disbelief. A very welcome & capable player & always a pleasure to coach.

Jonathan Blunden

If ‘Natural Talent’ was an award, Jonathan would certainly be its main contender. Unfortunately though, such talent is also demanded by other sports & I’m certain this prevented his stats from exploding past last seasons wonderful records. Jonathan spent a lot of time with the gloves on this season & took some wonderful catches, in doing so, has cemented the role of our No1. Keeper. He is always a delight to watch with the bat & a pleasure to coach as well. Whatever his chosen sport ends up being, I’m sure he will be one of its elite. Lets hope that’s cricket!

Lachlan Boyle

Lachlan is also one of our ‘All Rounders’ and has plenty of talent to boot. It’s a shame the weather wasn’t kind, as Lachlan tends to emerge & improve as the season goes along, no doubt he saved his best game to last in the grand final when it counted most, with a wonderful partnership to win the game. Ranking 8th in the district champion points table proves he has the ability & with a little more focus will see this improve yet again. I’ll look forward to seeing this next season.

Lachlan Chase

Nothing ever seems to be a problem to Lachlan, good & bad days don’t exist, they’re all great days when it comes to cricket & with the ‘topsy turvy’ nature of this game, what better attitude to have. Lachlans bowling was again fast & furious & just one more season wicket would have landed him in the districts top 10. A great effort mate & a new goal for next season.

33 Nicholas Bruzzese

Nicks a talented cricketer that just can’t get enough of the game & I’m sure if the weather had of allowed more games, his natural prowess with the bat would have given us more of the spectacle we enjoyed so much last season. A great batting technique, team player & voodoo of the coin toss, I’m noting …. ‘Relax, Champion Player Next season will be yours mate!’

Patrick Brassell

Pat was new to the team this season & showed early that a lot of noise can come from a small package. Pat was a great voice on the field & some times when things seem down, the right voice can lift the team. Pat was given a lot of opportunity this season to enjoy & have a go & to his credit, did us all proud, including his most memorable batting high score of 23 N.O. against Pittown, the winner of the ‘A’ comp & taking a couple of great deep field catches. Next season we hope to teach him to open his eyes when catching.

What a great bunch of kids that I had the privilege of coaching, backed up by excellent parents who all played parts in assisting the team on game day, wether scoring, umpiring or warming up players, the help was always there.Which enabled myself as a coach to focus on individual players or the team as a whole as they prepared to take the field or go out to bat. Motivation and confidence building was a tool we used throughout the season, understanding that this team was made up of a mixture of last seasons under 12's and 14's. Although we did not win many games the boys competed to the best of there abilities in every game and at many times during the season the opposition had to work hard to get the victory. The boys either batted well or bowled well but struggled to consistently do well in both forms of the game. I am extremely proud of the sportsmanship shown by the team amongst themselves and towards the opposition, parents included. Many times when a catch was dropped or errors in the field occurred you would hear comments such as don’t worry, better luck next time, its ok well get the next one. This enabled the kids to focus on the next ball and not dwell on the error, it wasn't long before those kids were taking catches and fielding well, thanks boys. This season without a doubt was the most difficult in the sense of poor weather, injuries and access to training. Some of the teams we played were far superior in strength, skills and age, and they walloped us, but the boys never lost heart and competed as best as they could on the day. I really am proud of them for meeting theses challenges and remaining positive and competitive the entire season. Our team, parents included was a happy team who started and finished every game joyfully regardless of the results. At no time during the season did I hear negativeness from any parents or kids, and the opposition always enjoyed our company and comments...thanks to all.

Liam Ryan (Captain): This was Liams first season as a leader and how proud I am of the job he did. It was not easy for Liam to take on this role as his form from the previous season was far from his best. He was one of our best bowlers this season week in week out, filling in as an opening bowler when needed, well done. Struggled with the bat but showed glimpses of how good he can be with a couple of well timed knocks. Liam is a great kid with plenty of ability....he is his harshest critic..relax buddy, one ball at a time.

Mathias Sinka (Vice Captain): Took on a senior role in the team in assisting Liam. A great team motivator, well liked by all the players. Mathias showed that hard work in the off season produces results, he has become a good opening batter who continues to improve and will one day be a very good player. Had a good season in the field at slips and with the ball. Mate your a top bloke, keep working on your game, you can only get better.

36 Under 14 whitePOSITION ON TABLE: 3rd

Lachlan Cash: Stepped up as our other opening bat and performed very well in this role. He has a very good technique both with bat and ball, who is also an excellent fielder, taking some sharp catches in the gully/point region. He is a good asset to any team, bowling some lovely leg spin when required. Lachlan you are a joy to coach and its great fun having you in the team, I get a lot of pleasure watching you and your game develop and grow. Listen to your dad and brother you have a wealth of cricket knowledge around you, thanks mate.

Nicholas Jonson: What a batter!!! when I first saw him bat in the nets I knew I had a kid that could bat. I know if I had batted him at number three every round we probably would have won more games, but Nick was happy to sacrifice himself and allow others to have a go up the order, good on ya mate. He is a match winner and once again an asset to any team. Performed very well in all aspects of the game wether batting, bowling, fielding or keeping wickets. Did a great job behind the stumps. Keep up the work, you are a good player, well done mate.

Mathew Sullivan: Bowled some excellent spells of line and length with some subtle swing. Unfortunately did not get a lot of opportunity with the bat, but when he did he followed the coaches instructions to the letter. Started the season in the field lacking confidence, but by end of season he proved to himself and his team mates that he can field and catch well. Mathew you can be a good player just keep positive and work hard, you are a joy to coach, thanks mate.

Tim Rymer: Smallest kid on the team with a heart like a lion. Absolute joy to coach. I was impressed with Tims attitude and keenness throughout the entire season wether training or playing Tim gives 100% at all times. Bowled some great line and length, never took a backward step when batting, fielded like a tiger pulling off a screamer of a catch in square leg that I will be talking about for years to come. Keep it up Tim you are going to be a fine cricketer and leader one day.

Nicholas O'Neill: Not easy being the coaches son. Nick has the ability to be a good cricketer, all he needs to do is practice. A good bloke to have on your team. Nick took some good catches this year and fielded well in mid‐ off, not much got past him. At times he showed that he can bowl well and at training absolutely belted our bowlers around, unfortunately this did not happen on game day. Nick needs to learn you cant hit every ball for 6. Thanks for your help and sacrifices throughout the season.

Jamie Vallis: A good bloke who is well liked by all. Jamie you can hit a ball and unfortunately another kid who did not get as much opportunities with the bat as he deserved, sacrificing himself for the team. Many times Jamie was padded up ready to bat and either didn’t get the chance or only got to face a few deliveries, he never complained. Bowled some good spells of medium pace and was unlucky many times. Jamie train hard, you can and will improve.

Daniel Vanderburg: Another good bloke. Daniel is a natural out swinger who I have had the pleasure in coaching for the last 3 seasons. He struggled this year with injury which hampered his game. But showed some glimpses of how good he can be. A classic tail end batter who is capable of hitting a ball well. Daniel with hard work and confidence you can become a much better batter. Just relax and focus on one ball at a time, a joy having you in the team.

Mathew Frame: When I saw Mathews name on my team list I knew I had a very good, fast opening bowler/all rounder. There is nothing Mathew cant do when it comes to sport. He has a great attitude when training and playing. Mathew toiled all season with the ball, he worked his butt off in the field, batted well when given the opportunity and sets a standard of play for all to follow. He is a great team player and very exciting to watch. Well done champ.

Ben Tagg: What a player. Ben you are a very talented sportsman. Many times you proved yourself with the bat, to be one of our best assets. Unfortunately injury got in the way of opportunities but when given the chance you did very well, you saved the team from a couple of wallopings. Your glove work is good but you can be a lot better if you work on it. Bowled some good spells backed up with some excellent fielding. Ben you are a challenge to coach, but a joy and I would gladly have you in any team I coached. Thanks for the laughs.

Joshua Medak: What a great leg spin bowler, a really good bloke and team player, everyone loves Josh. Josh gives 100% when playing, wether in the field or batting you know he always tries his best, taking some blinding

37 Under 14 whitePOSITION ON TABLE: 3rd catches in fine leg, much to the crowds enjoyment. When he gets his eye in he can really hit a ball. Another player who struggled with injuries late in the season. Keep playing and working on your game you have some talent there mate.

Brayden Howarth: 13th player and how glad I am that we took you in our team. A really impressive season as an opening bowler, you and Mathew worked together very well, which gave the team the starts required. Another very good all/round cricketer, great fielder and catcher. When it comes to cricket there is nothing you cant do, a must in any team. Proved yourself to be a good batsmen who once again if I had used you up the order more often we would have been a force to reckon with. Thanks mate for your efforts and performances.

39 Under 12 GoldPOSITION ON TABLE: 3rd Semi-finalists

Courage, commitment, determination and respect. In my opinion it is these 4 qualities that you see in star players of today. It is not always the most skilful cricket teams that win matches and premierships; it is more often than not those that put it on the line, on the line for their team, their supporters and most of all themselves. It was these 4 points that we talked about at our first training session of the season; it was these 4 points that would allow us as a team to enjoy our cricket, which at the end of the day is what it is all about isn’t it? If it’s not fun, why do it? The big 4 qualities were displayed in spades over the season, which from my perspective, made it such a great year.

An absolute great bunch of kids who all gelled and got on from day one. We had the full spectrum of cricket ability covered from the most gifted to the generally challenged, but the one thing we all had in common was that, regardless of your name or your ability, we are a team, we played as a team, we behaved as a team, we won as a team and we lost as a team and most of all we had fun as a team. Like all great cricket seasons we won some we should not have and we lost a couple that we should

40 Under 12 GoldPOSITION ON TABLE: 3rd Semi-finalists not have, but you know you have had success when the naturally gifted volunteers his up the order spot for another team member who had not had a bat in a while, when we all knew that we were in a “scrap”. We lost the scrap, but everyone was smiling as a team after the game and celebrating our team accomplishments for the day, the players, the coach, the scorers and all the supporters enjoyed the cricket all year!

So at the end of the season, we were defeated by Mother Nature, as most of us where in one way or another. Having only played one innings of cricket post-Christmas, we found ourselves battle ready to play our very own fellow club side NRCC Blue in the semi-final. The plans were grand, bowling orders sorted and batting partnerships pencilled in, the Blue and Gold baggy cap was our destiny! However no amount of courage, determination and commitment or respect for Mother Nature could see us playing cricket under water! Congratulations to our fellow club side that went on to win the premiership very convincingly.

There were the big highlights through the year with dominant displays of batting with 50No’s by Connor Mizzi and Ryan Seale, and the memory of Josh Ferris 5 for 0 including a hattrick that will live with me for a long time to come. Crouching tigers came into their own (looking like big 8.) every week and the boys fielded immensely week in and week out. Nothing got past, and this is completely evident in the stats with our side having the least amount of runs scored against them than any other team in the comp! We definitely win the team fielding award, that’s for sure! This team came together quickly with a few of the boys playing together previously and a few new faces, great personalities all round made great synergy, and I look forward to seeing most of them that are age eligible back together again next year. I will be there if you are.

The list below is in no particular order, much like our batting and bowling lists, we even had a rotating captains list (sorry to those captains that got rained out!). The only order in this list is that the coach’s son is at the top, probably the first time all year he got put first in anything, as I am sure you will read through this book, it is not easy being the coach’s son!

Trent “Trento” Buttsworth Sacrificed so much in the name of the team. Your courage and commitment to the team is to be commended. Your support for all things NRCC is to be admired, the support shown to your club behind the scenes shows maturity and dignity beyond your years. Thanks mate!

Connor “CJ” Mizzi For his age certainly knows how to read the game. A natural leader and future captain in the making, you earned the right to captain this side through the finals series. Genuinely respected by your team mates clearly demonstrates your natural talent for the game and leadership.

Connor “G” Gennari Possibly the quietest and politest kid I have ever met, Connor was always there when we needed him, with some wickets at crucial times and 3 catches during the year that possibly just should not have been taken. A true team player who shows tremendous courage and ability to lift a game.

Kurtis “The Kurt” Medack Certainly an impact player. Has the ability turn a game on its head when he fires, bowls with pace and anger and swings willow with strength and timing to shame the best.

Riley “Stokesy” Stokes Sorry mate, but I just can’t understand for the life of me why you have not twirled those leggys before? Keep at em mate, that’s your calling! Some courageous batting during the year, and that catch at slips Riley8Really? Is that even possible? You bought a dynamic to the team that is priceless!

Joshua “Joshy” Ferris A true gentleman and committed young cricketer. Some gutsy “dig deep” knocks with the bat and then there is the 5 for 0 and THAT hattrick! A very big future ahead of you Joshua, your accomplishments in cricket and in all things sport and I am sure in life having only just started. A true team player that respects everyone and everything around him.

41 Under 12 GoldPOSITION ON TABLE: 3rd Semi-finalists

Darcy “The Darce” Anderson A truly courageous young man who is not afraid to step forward and lead by example, volunteers for the hard jobs and does them with ease. Give the kid a new ball and let him loose. The figures don’t reflect your awesome all round cricket this year, amazing commitment to the team, to the coach and in return every one of your fellow players truly respects you.

Angus “Angry” Gorman What a year angry, runs, wickets and catches! This is a clear demonstration of committed determination at its best. Nobody trained harder at their game this year than you mate, and your overall improvement and attitude towards your cricket is applauded by all around you! You took that catch at breakaway, and you said “see I can do it”. I replied with, bet you can’t do it again, and you did (better than the first). Keep at it angry! Hard work gets us everywhere.

Ryan “Sealy” Seale Seriously Sealy, slow it down! As the coaching umpire you were bowling that fast that I could not see it, I would dread to have the bat in my hands at the other end. In all honesty, your figures don’t demonstrate your ability Ryan, and at times you were just too good for your opposition. A big future ahead!

Liam “Liam Merrick” Merrick Courage, commitment, determination and respect. You showed it all, and your natural ability shines through. Digging deep in the last innings of the year, I will never forget the smile on your face, and I quote “this is the best fun I have ever had” Now off to Subway with you!

Cooper “Coops” Franks We hardly had a bye go through all year, and a massive thanks to Coops with the wicket keeping gloves for that. Truly dominating that position making it his own was a pleasure to watch. But it gets better, the 41 against Bligh Park was a truly dominant display of batting against some classy bowling. Never ending energy all year is truly appreciated Cooper!

Zane “Hoges” Hogan Unfortunately Hoges had to leave us at Christmas time as he moved to QLD, but his natural ability with all things cricket was surely missed. A true character who bowls line and length all day, with one of the most trusted sets of hands going around, Hoges will certainly play good cricket for years to come! Hope to see you at Northo again soon!

Aiden “Supersub” Lefevre The supersub came up from U10’s to help us through the finals. Unfortunately not a lot of cricket played at that point, but hats off to this young man for slipping into the side and fitting right in from the word go. A natural looking left armer troubling good batsmen with some genuine swing bowling, you will see this name in the stats in future years.

All said and done, a great year of cricket when it was not raining. A huge thankyou to all the family and friends for supporting these boys and myself through the year, as without you their enjoyment and love for the game is sacrificed. To all the mums and dads that helped in one way or another, thankyou!

The biggest thankyou of all to my little supporting crew, thankyou for doing my paperwork, thankyou for supporting this great club, and thankyou for supporting this great team. It takes more than scoring runs and taking wickets to make cricket enjoyable for all, and what is done behind the scenes to make it all tick is immense, greatest respect and admiration to you!

43 Under 12 BluePOSITION ON TABLE: 2nd premiers

Coach : Damon Thompson

Manager: Sharon Zemars

After the disappointment of the Windsor Cricket Club folding we bought the team over to North Richmond where we were made to feel welcome and were lucky enough to have people like Dave and Sally on the club community. Without people like them and the other members our children would not be able to play this great game.

After losing the first game of the year we never looked back. Through training hard and great team work we were able to continue to play some great cricket and the thing I am most proud of is the way the kids are able to play hard but fare showing great sportsmanship at all times. Three years of hard worked all came together on grand final day where the kids won in style. I would also like to thank the parents this year for their support they gave me in the way I coached the team. Having them understand what I was trying to achieve with the team and the individual player made it a lot easier to do my job. It is all about developing each child and some take longer than others. Thanks to Sharon also for her managing skills.

44 Under 12 BluePOSITION ON TABLE: 2nd premiers

Cooper ZEMARS: Cooper could still be playing under 10s but played much more like an under 12 player. His fielding made a lot of the older kids take notice and lift their games. He was a pleasure to coach and listened really well making big improvements in batting and bowling.

Wyatt ZEMARS: This was Wyatt’s second season with us and his improvement with his bowling was outstanding. Wyatt opened the bowling in a very good attack and took the most wickets for the season. Wyatt is quiet but prefers to do his talking with his cricket and has been known to hit the odd six. Wyatt also took a hat trick

Jack CHAPMAN: Jack along with his twin brother Kyle were the back bone of the team. Batting in the middle order Jack was always good for some quick runs and gave his wicket away many times when asked for the team sake. His running between wickets for a great example for the others and his swing bowling at the start of a match always set us up well.

Kyle CHAPMAN: Kyle was in a similar mould to Jack in that he was a valuable asset in the middle order who could score runs quickly. Fast in the outfield and a very agile wicket keeping. He also gave his wicket away many times for the team. His spin bowling just got better and better as the year went on.

Dillon MARTIN: Dillon has a lethal left arm in the outfield and also a very safe set of hands. Although struggling for consistency with his bowling he does not realise how good he could be as a bowler. His worked really hard on his batting and it showed even with limited opportunities. I am really looking forward to seeing how he develops over the next couple of years.

Daly BARHAM: Daly also plays above his age and had a great year especially with the bat. Daly carried his bat twice during the season and most importantly during the final which earned him the “Bradman Medal”. Daly is great at being patient as he builds an innings but also know how to take those quick singles. He took some quality catches at point and his spin bowling was as good as any one in the team.

Madeline BOYLE: Being the only girl in the team is tuff but Madeline showed she is even tougher. Madeline had some great days in the field and bowled very tightly, at one stage she was on a hat trick. A very good defence with the bat she also had to throw her wicket away at times for the team. Madeline always worked hard on the field and at training and always did what I asked of her.

Mitchell LEMON: Mitch loves to wicket keep and does a great job. He always takes his catches and keeps the sundries down to a bare minimum. Although he did not like to bowl when he puts his mind to it he was a very handy bowler for the team and bowled some tight spells throughout the year. But it was his batting that was the big improvements he always had the talent but would let his nerves get the better of him. Once he got over that he batting was fantastic.

45 Under 12 BluePOSITION ON TABLE: 2nd premiers

Kyle VICARY: Kyle has great strength and hand eye coordination to match. Kyle hit many sixes through the season where he would come into bat and Pell off a quick 40 runs for the team putting us in a great position. He throwing arm is lethal, never dropped a catch and his bowling speed is quite scary for some of the opposition kids. Kyle also directly ran out a number of the opposition batsman.

Bailey THOMPSON: Bailey finally got his batting in order this year after struggling with consistency. He opened most games and got us off to good solid starts. His bowling as always for very good he bowled many spells for very few runs. Bailey has a strong throwing arm and very rarely drops a catch. During the year he took a fantastic one handed catch in slips. While still learning how to captain the team he did really well leading by example. Bailey also took a hat trick during the final.

Lachlan JANSEN: At the start of the year Lachlan told me that his goal this season was to score 20 runs in an innings. I was really pleased that he had firstly set himself a goal and even more pleased when he retired on 31 not out during the season after opening the batting. Lachlan’s bowling although not fast or spinning really proved to be hard for the opposition to get away because he was so accurate. Lachlan also did extra catching practice which showed during the games.

Riley THOMPSON: Riley could also be playing under 10s this year. Riley for his age would be the most technical batsman in the team and after playing rep cricket this year he really showed how well he could handle any situation. Riley was often sent out when the team needed him not what position best suited Riley and he never complained. He took some great catches in the final at second slip and although his spin bowling can sometimes be expensive once his hands get bigger and he has more experience the way he turns the ball he has some great days of cricket to come. Riley is also known for his big voice on the field which keeps everyone on their toes.

Energetic, encouraging and eager are three words that best describe North Richmond U/10 Gold cricket team.

Always energetic whether at training or on the field the boys always put in 100% no matter what the situation.

One of the greatest attributes a team can have is to encourage each other and this team did it so enthusiastically. When batting the boys would clap and cheer a good shot or if a team mate had a bad time with the bat a pat on the shoulder and the words “better luck next time” always brought a smile. When bowling a wicket was always celebrated with great jubilation, not to intimidate or upset the opposition, but to congratulate the bowler for a great ball or to replay a spectacular catch or run out by a fielder.

From the very first training session these boys were eager to learn. Learn how to catch, throw, bat and bowl. Their development and willingness to listen and practise skills were terrific.

48 Under 10 gold

In a season unfortunately spoiled by poor weather, particularly throughout February the boys played outstanding cricket, losing only one game early in the season. But it was not about winning or losing it was all about having fun with your friends, how sport should be. All the boys have displayed greatly improved skills in all areas and always displayed great sportsmanship. The boys have become close friends with each other throughout the season and I am sure these friendships will continue to blossom the more seasons they play together. They are a great bunch of kids who display excellent skill and attitude toward the game of cricket. But most importantly they like to have fun.

THE TEAM

RILEY HOWARTH – Riley is a powerful batsman who can hit a ball a mile, scoring 62 runs throughout the season. Riley is a fearsome fast bowler who when he was not taking wickets was giving opposition batsmen bruises with his high speed deliveries. Often took out team during training as well.

RILEY WILSON – Riley W as he was often called by his team mates is a stylish batsman who also could give a ball a fair whack. Riley really developed his skills as a bowler throughout the season. A big, strong lad who always trained hard.

DYLAN WILSON – Dylan volunteered to be keeper in our first game and learned very quickly to stand a little further back, especially when the two Riley’s bowled. Had got ‘more hits than Elvis’ by the end of the innings. But to his credit kept on volunteering to be keeper. Dylan obviously watched a lot of T20 cricket on TV over the Summer and developed some interesting batting strokes. His spin bowling toward the end of the season was fantastic.

ETHAN BAXTER – An enthusiastic player who could always sneak a wicket when it counted with his accurate bowling, taking seven wickets throughout the season. Always excited when a wicket was taken and really enjoyed the company of his team mates. Really improved in all areas, particularly with his bowling. A great person to have on the team.

MAX WELLINGTON – The youngest in the team and certainly the bravest. Wasn’t intimidated by any type of bowling and due to his size (or lack of it) developed a strong and powerful hook shot which astounded all those who watched. A terrific bowler, collecting 9 wickets throughout the season, the most in HDCA under 10’s. Almost took a hat trick in his very first game of the season.

CALEB CHASE – ‘The Joker’ of the team. Thoroughly enjoyed celebrating a wicket with a crash tackle or bear hug) just ask Ethan or Logan). A very competent wicket keeper and aggressive batsman. Who will forget his 3 fours in one over at Riverstone. He definitely hasn’t.

LOGAN MITCHELL – Caleb’s partner in crime when it came to team joker. An enthusiastic player who really improved throughout the season. A great talker on and off the field (who

49 Under 10 gold

does he take after – dad) who always celebrated a wicket in grand style. Took 6 wickets throughout the season and always displayed great enthusiasm in the field.

BEN PALMER‐DRYDEN – Had the extra pressure of being the coaches son which is never easy. Took a wicket and was nearly buried mid pitch by his team mates and coach. Always tried hard whether batting or bowling and enjoyed his first season of cricket.

ZAC MCGUIRE – An outstanding fielder who took more catches and run‐outs than any player in the team. A very good all round player whose batting and bowling skills really improved throughout the season. His energetic fielding and encouragement of team mates was terrific.

50 Under 10 Blue

Well what can I say? It was my first season coaching and it was one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve had. It was made all the better by the kids and the parents that made my season more enjoyable and more fun. A special thankyou goes to Janine Drury who was a massive help for me this season and I don’t think I could have handled the season without her help with scoring every game and also texting all parents every week to inform them of the game and ground. As it was my first season coaching there were also things that I had to learn. Patience played a major role for me throughout the season as the kids did not always listen to me and on occasions thought they knew everything. That then reflected in the first few games of the season and the kids then realised that the coach was right and that if they listened they would learn and learn they did. By the end of the season all of the players had improved in all areas of their game and at times were playing better cricket than I could and this made me very proud as a coach. I hope to continue coaching the kids next season and help to keep improving their skills.

Scott Adams: A hard hitting batsman and skilled pace or spin bowler. Major improver over the season and I hope to see you again next season.

51 Under 10 Blue

Tim Allen: Tim a very good batsman and a big improver with the ball. Well done Tim good season.

Hope Allen: Hope was a pleasure to coach and was one of the biggest improver of the season especially with her fielding. I hope to see you and your brother back next season.

Cain Anderson: Cain was is fantastic kid to coach and was one of two keepers and is very skilled with the ball and was a good improver with the bat.

Liam Bastin: A very fast opening bowler and also a big improver with the bat and his fielding. Well done Liam.

Alicia Bastin: Alicia was a joy to coach and a huge improver over the season and excelled in all areas of her cricket.

Liam Buchan: The other keeper for our team and a great kid to coach. Always enthusiastic with a smile on his face. Big improver with both bat and ball

Anthony Goedde: A natural bowler and fielder and made a good improvement with the bat. Well done Anthony I hope to see you next season.

Lachlan Fry: Lachlan was a massive improver in all areas over the season and great to have in the team. Well done Lachlan.

Coach

52 Under 10 WHITE

North Richmond under 10’s White consisted of roughly half the team starting afresh in their first season, while the other half enjoyed the fruits of competing in their 2nd season. While they didn’t finish high on the ladder this year, most of the team benefited from trying extremely hard at training and dramatically improved their skills. This hard work began to rub off towards the end of the season, despite a rain interrupted season.

As coach this year, I missed the first few games of the season and a few games at the end due to other commitments, but it was a pleasure to know that they would always be in capable hands in my absence. I would like to particularly thank Bob Stewart for taking over as coach for a large proportion of the season and Jarrod Lafevre for being our extremely enthusiastic and competent 2nd hander. I can’t express how happy I was to know that the players would both enjoy their cricket and be well supported by their parents. At the games, I was more of delegator than a coach with all of the attentive parents putting up their hands to help in any way possible (i.e. scoring, umpiring, taking photos, hitting catches, putting out the cones or just generally encouraging the kids). Regardless of which player was captain on the day, I could place responsibility in any player who would run the show in the middle with great intelligence and skill. I really couldn’t be happier to coach nay other team! I hope that we can stay together as unit and move through our junior careers together. Well done to every one of you this year and thankyou soooooo much to the parents for making this a memorable season!

This team is a mix of players who are extremely talented and competent, particularly as a bowling attack. With no stars in our team, every game was played with great‐spirit. They are truly a pleasure

53 Under 10 WHITE to coach and I feel that we have all benefited from each other’s company because we all love our cricket! The under 10’s white consists of the following players:

 Aiden Lafevre: is wonderful timer of the ball with the bat and bowls a good line and length at times. He is an asset to any team with representative cricket being just a sniff away as he develops his technique. Remembering that under 10’s bat for only 4 overs, Aiden managed to score an amazing 28 one day and was consistent throughout the year. Frustratingly he took 3 wickets and 2 catches the game that he filled in for another team! Good luck Aiden. I hope to be involved in your cricketing future regardless of where you end up playing next.

 Damien Lafevre (aka Itchy Curls): dramatically improved his cricket this year, particularly in the first half of the season where he tried some new techniques with both bat and ball. You know he is surprising with his ability. He doesn’t look pretty with either bat and ball but he knows how to find the middle of the bat and bowls a fantastic ball here and there. I don’t like to pick favourites but Damien plays cricket with his head, loves his cricket and enjoys the challenge of being captain. I hope he fulfils this role in the future and scores lots of runs and takes a lot of wickets in the future. Good luck mate!

 Aiden Lilly (aka Dennis): Mr Aiden was the big find for the year. As he practices his batting, he is a composed cricketer who bowls with great shape. Aiden has a wonderful bowling action, works hard at training and confuses batters with his swing bowling. It is likely that Aiden will play representative cricket in the future as he is an asset to any team. Things can only get better for you Aiden because you have a relaxed personality and demonstrate a great commitment to the game.

 Lee Stewart: benefiting from a more relaxed atmosphere this year, Lee’s conduct and ability has soared. As Lee becomes a senior player, it is likely that this big left handed bowler will continue to improve as a player and trouble a lot of batters with his beautiful side‐on action. You have a solid foundation here now to work on, so please keep up the hard work mate and you will be a handful for even the best batters.

 Zach Pracey: welcome to cricket mate! You have a wonderful sense of humour and despite you thinking otherwise, you’re not at all bad at this game. I would only hope that you practice all your skills at training, particularly your batting. You bring much more than an amazing ability to swing the ball away as part of any team. You are such an important part of our team!

 Brad: is another person who played their first season this year. Brad came to this game with great enthusiasm and ability. I am happy to say that Brad puts 100% into every game and also tries extremely hard at training. You truly are a pleasure to coach Brad and I am confident that the future is bright for your cricketing career because you have great talent and commitment in everything you do. You are good now but I am certain that will be even better in a few years. Keep up the hard work!
