Roy M. Huffington (’38) of Houston. The gift will endow the Depart ment of Earth Sciences in Dedman College, now renamed the Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences. With this new gift, Huffington has given SMU more than $20 million in the past two years and a total of more than $31 million over many years of support for the University. The study of geology has been part of SMU’s curriculum since its Roy Huffington (right) is joined by Earth Sciences faculty (from left) opening in 1915. The Second Century Campaign, the largest fundraising initiative in SMU history, continued to play an essential role in drawing the resources that are enabling SMU to continue its remarkable rise as a top educational institution. The SMU Brand Guidelines was developed to help maintain consistency in symbols and messages in the development of University communications. In an accessible, online format, this guide contains the University’s official policy of use for a variety of visual symbols as well as editorial content. These brand guidelines are particularly important for SMU as we seek to enhance our national recognition. Establishing a strong and recognizable identity in the crowded marketplace of brands requires consistency as well as creativity. No matter how diverse and distinctive the activities of a university may be, there must be some common visual themes associated with the institution as a whole.
