Artists: Theresa Anderson (b. 1967, St. Paul, MN) lives and works in Denver, CO. She is alum of artist residencies at Redline Denver, PlatteForum, and Vermont Studio Center where she received fellowship funding for her sculpture. Anderson has received multiple commissions and stipends through organizations such as the Biennial of the Americas, Black Cube Nomadic Museum with the curator Cortney Lane Stell, as well as the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and the presentation of a master artist demonstration on drawing at the Denver Art Museum. Recent solo and notable exhibitions include everything squiggles at 808 Projects, curated by Mardee Goff, every length of a drawing at Yeah Maybe, Minneapolis curated by Nicole Soukup and some kind of cuddle at Gray Contemporary, Houston, Performativity at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, curated by Michol Hebron and Thief Among Thieves at Museum of Contemporary Art, curated by Adam Lerner and Nora Abrams.
Isabelle Beaupré (b. 1978, Montreal, Canada) creates through repetitions of shapes and textures some non- figurative monochrome compositions often delimited by segmentation, fragmentation or stratification. Her work can be perceived as an in-between painting and sculpture. She meticulously uses different materials such as wood, plaster, sand and burlap. Her practice questions the possible infinite number of repeats of these shapes, each replica being necessarily submitted to a certain level of changes. Isabelle Beaupré studied visual and media arts at Université du Québec à Montréal and has been represented by different galleries since where she did numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her art was seen in many major arts events as A rt Souterrain and Nuit Blanche and she was invited to show in many art fairs as Papier and at The Contemporary Art Fair of
Page 2 of 51 Saint-Lambert amongst others through Canada. Her works can be found in corporate collections across Canada as Senvest Collection, Padorac as well as in many private collections. Isabelle Beaupré shows for the first time in Houston, Texas; she lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
Amber Cobb (b. 1979, St. Louis, MO) works investigates the primal and sensual nature of intimacy and sexuality. This includes xiao shan xiao at the Hunan Province Art Museum in Kaifeng, Millennial Pink at Untitled Miami, and Palettable Relations at Galeria Hilario Galgura in Mexico City, MX and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver and Boulder, CO. Page 3 of 51 Monique Lacey (b. 1960, Netherlands) is an artist living and working in Auckland, New Zealand. Her sculptural work is based in Minimalism, the language of form and male- centred narratives. Through embracing a form of mangled baroque-ness she seeks to depart from the seamlessness of minimalism, bringing a benign violation to its established legacies of power. The starting point for her work is the store bought cardboard box, to which she seeks to bring constructive and destructive processes into dialogue. She constructs the work then subsequently collapses the work, using the weight of her body, an action that is at once playful, cathartic or aggressive. She received her MFA (First Class Hons) from Whitecliffe School of Art & Design in Auckland, New Zealand. Selected exhibitions include The Vivian Gallery, Matakana, NZ; Waikato Museum, Hamilton, NZ; Malcolm Smith Gallery, Auckland, NZ; Rm Gallery, Auckland, NZ; Sanderson Gallery, Auckland, NZ, West End Art Space, Melbourne, Australia; Yarra Sculpture Gallery, Melbourne, Australia. He balances his daily duties as Creative Director at a major advertising agency in Fort Lauderdale together with a lifelong calling as a fine artist. Hae Won Sohn (b.1992, Seoul, South Korea) is an artist currently based in Baltimore, MD. Through her work she explores the idea of presenting process itself as an element of a process which is done by adopting the language materials speak and visualizing it with her own translation. She earned her MFA degree in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA degree in Ceramics from the College of Design at Kookmin University located in Seoul. She with her work participated in the project "The Chronicles of LA - Chapter2 (SELF)": an interactive and experimental concept store which took place in Los Angeles, CA. Graphic Surgery; Gysbert Zijlstra (b. 1978, The Netherlands) and Erris Huigens (b. 1978, The Netherlands) derive their inspiration from the industrial or urban landscape, in particular the strict functional character of steel structures, scaffolding and construction cranes. The temporary nature of these construction sites and the fact that they are not meant to be aesthetically beautiful fascinates them. The crane as the universal symbol of transforming cities, and the key element of Graphic Surgery’s visual vocabulary.
Dave Swensen (b. 1984, Des Moines, IA) explores the layering and placement of construction and industrial materials while emphasizing the principles of both modern and contemporary design. Often his distorted mirrored surfaces reflect back bouncing light and energy. Working with precision he creates a narrative using a minimal aesthetic that at times allows parts to become interchangeable or be reconfigured entirely. This flexibility in his work allows him to push his materials to their maximum potential. He has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions locally and abroad. Some of his most recent include: "Things That Pass" (2011) in
Page 4 of 51 Tauranga, New Zealand; "The Rising Tide" (2013) Anchorage, Alaska; "New Video" (2013) Chicago, Illinois; "Fountains" (2017) San Antonio, Texas where he participated in the artist residency program at Hello Studio Gallery.
Britt Thomas is a multidisciplinary artist residing in Houston, Texas. She engages in a concept-driven studio practice that regularly utilizes video, sound and photography due to their ability to simultaneously reflect and manipulate reality. For similar reasons, she frequently utilizes consumer materials within sculpture and installation to harness the symbolism and emotional attachment people bestow on these items. Her aim in making art is to address shared social and personal issues in ways that are delicately complex, conveying the uncomfortable gray areas present in every circumstance. Thomas received her BFA in studio art from Lamar University and her MFA from the University of Houston where she is currently an instructor within the photography and digital media program. Thomas is co-founder of The Lens Capsule, a mobile exhibition space for emerging lens-based artists that was custom built to be installed inside the back of a rental truck. She is a 2018 recipient of Houston Arts Alliance’s SAIC project-based artist grant, currently collaborating with composer Joel Love on an immersive light and sound installation. Thomas’ 1,400 square foot mural, Metallographic Cosmos, is permanently on-view in the George R. Brown Convention Center as part of the City of Houston’s public art collection.
Austin Turley is a contemporary artist whose objects and images explore themes of presence, memory, time, and vulnerability within the layers of human existence. He received a BFA in sculpture in 2013 from Pacific Northwest College of Art. After graduating Austin worked as a glass caster at Bullseye Glass Company for four years. He has been awarded residences from GLEAN (Portland, OR), Arquetopia (Puebla, Mexico), Hinge Arts (Fergus Falls, MN) and grants from the Oregon Arts Commission and Regional Arts and Cultural Council. His work has been exhibited nationally and is represented by Gray Contemporary (Houston, TX). Austin currently resides in Portland, OR.
Erin Vincent (b. 1977, Canada) is a Toronto based-artist whose work draws on a variety of repetitive and labour intensive processes and materials. Things have always fascinated Vincent; attracted to the abject and discarded she de-categorizes them and removes established hierarchies. She explores themes of emotional intensity, intuition and the relationship between things. The sculptures she makes possess their own liveliness and ability to engage and be engaged. Erin has recently completed her MFA at York University, focusing on sculpture and installation. She holds her BFA from the University of Waterloo and received her degree in Arts Education from the University of Western Ontario. Vincent has exhibited her work in Canada, United States and England, with shows at Art Mur (Montreal, QB), Renann Isaacs Contemporary (Guelph ON) and Christie Contemporary (Toronto ON). Her work is held in Canadian and international collections and she is the recipient of a 2017 Emerging Artist Grant from the Ontario Arts Council and a 2016 SSHRC Grant.

GRAPHIC SURGERY
EDUCATION
Gysbert Zijlstra (NL 1978) and Erris Huigens (NL 1978) derive their inspiration from the industrial or urban landscape, in particular the strict functional character of steel structures, scaffolding and construction cranes. The temporary nature of these construction sites and the fact that they are not meant to be aesthetically beautiful fascinates them. The crane as the universal symbol of transforming cities, and the key element of Graphic Surgery’s visual vocabulary.
