National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore is on a mission to create a photo archive of global in a project aptly named Photo Ark. Over three-quarters done, after more than a decade, he has completed intimate portraits of more than 11,000 species, with a goal of photographing more than 15,000. The National Geographic Photo Ark aims to document every species currently living in the world’s zoos and wildlife sanctuaries, inspire action through education, and help save animals facing extinction in the wild by supporting on-the-ground conservation projects.
