EXERCISE 3 CP5

1. Copy the document JOHANNESBURG into your own period folder. Save it as JOHANNESBURG.

2. Insert your NAME SURNAME (right aligned) and JOHANNESBURG (centred) in a header.

3. Edit the document according to the instructions below and as indicated in the text on the next page.

4. Centre only the first page of the document vertically.

5. Insert a footer in the centre bold, size 14, font Algerian and underline. The text for the footer is RUSH

6. Insert an endnote where indicated in the text on the next page in bold and capital letters. The text for the endnote is Gold digger

7. The document was keyed in with alignment left. Justify the document.

8. Use the hyphenation function to avoid large spaces between the words.

9. Find 'George Harrison' and replace with George Harrison in italics, 16 pt and capital letters.

10. Insert page breaks as indicated in the text.

11. Insert page numbers bottom right on pages 2 and 3. No page number should appear on page 1.

12. Change the top margin of page 2 to 5 cm/2".

13. Number the lines of the second paragraph. Only every second line must be numbered and the numbers must start at 4.

14. Make sure that the document is typed in Courier New 12 pt, except where indicated differently.

Explorer and prospector Jan Gerritze Bantjes * was the first and original discoverer of the gold reef having prospected the area in the early 1880s as well as operating the Kromdraai Gold Mine to the northwest of the present-day Johannesburg from 1881.

For many years there was confusion around the first pioneers of the gold industry

and as the story went, it was believed that on a Sunday in March 1886 an Australian wanderer, George Harrison, stumbled across a rocky outcrop of the main gold- bearing reef. He declared his claim and his discovery was recorded in history with a monument built where the original gold outcrop is believed to be located. A park was

It did not take long for fortune-seekers from all over the world to flock to the area. What was a dusty mining village known as Ferreira’s Camp was soon formalised in a

settlement. It was initially not believed that the gold would last for long and only a small triangular piece of land was mapped to cram as many plots onto as possible.

This is the reason why Johannesburg’s central business district streets are so Paragraph 2 narrow.

Within 10 years the town was already the largest in , outstripping the growth of , which was more than 200 years older. Johannesburg was named after two officials, Christiaan Johannes Joubert and Johannes Rissik, who both worked in land surveying and mapping. It was widely believed that the two men combined their common name with “burg” which means fortified city.
