Eye glasses

Many eye doctors have collections for unwanted eye glasses so you can ask your local practice if they will take them.

You can also donate any prescription glasses that you no longer wish to use to charity organizations. The glasses will then be distributed to the poor, within your community or in developing countries, who find it difficult to afford the cost of prescription glasses.

Here are a few charity organizations that accept prescription glasses for redistribution.

OneSight Initiative

You can take your unwanted prescription glasses or sunglasses to Lens Crafters, Pearle, Sears Optical, Sunglasses Hut or Target Optical store locations throughout New Jersey. The glasses will then be redistributed to poor communities around the world through the OneSight charity.

The OneSight webpage provides more information on the work they do to improve the quality of life in poor communities around the world, through the gift of eye glasses.

Use the OneSight zip code search to find the nearest drop off location to where you live.

Lions Club International

Lions Club International is a charity organization that operates in the US and the developing world to support poor communities. One of their projects involves the collection of eye glasses for redistribution in poor communities around the world.

Your unwanted eye glasses can be mailed to your local NJ branch of Lions Club International using the following address.

New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center, Inc. c/o The Katzenbach School for the Deaf

31

320 Sullivan Way West Trenton, NJ 08628

Many local libraries have Lions Club collections for eye glasses. Ask at your local library to see if they are participating in the collection.

New Eyes for the Needy

You can drop off your unwanted prescription glasses at the New Eyes for the Needy office or mail in a padded envelope or box to...

New Eyes for the Needy, 549 Milburn Avenue, PO Box 332, Short Hills, NJ

They will accept

 plastic eyeglasses (reading glasses or sunglasses) in good condition.  metal framed glasses are accepted in any condition (if the frame is broken it will be sold as scrap metal for recycling).  hearing aids  prescription lenses  watches, silver and gold jewelry and costume jewelry  dentures with gold inlays

The glasses in good condition are sent to medical missions and international charities that work in the developing world. Any scrap metal recovered from the broken metal framed glasses, watches or jewelry donations is sold and the proceeds used to pay for prescription glasses for poor U.S. residents.
