Mirroring Your iPad with Reflector and AirPlay

What is Mirroring? It is a feature built into the iPad, called AirPlay that allows you to duplicate the iPad’s display on your computer monitor and project the image on your SMART Board or screen.

AirPlay works for:

 iPad 2 or later  iPad mini

What is Reflector? It is a desktop app that turns your computer into an AirPlay receiver.

Getting Started with Reflector and AirPlay

1. After you emailed the [email protected] and requested to have Reflector installed on your computer, you are ready to go.

Reflector runs automatically when in your hidden icons on your computer. It will launch when you activate AirPlay mirroring on your device.

2. Go to your iPad, swipe with one finger up from the bottom of the screen to display the Control Center.

3. Look for the AirPlay icon at the bottom and tap to open.

4. Tap on the name of your device and slide the mirroring button to the right to activate.

5. Once activated, your iPad should display on your computer’s screen which you can project onto your SMART Board or screen. Now you can move wirelessly about the room with your iPad. No wires!

You can connect multiple devices to mirror at one time. Read more below.

*NOTE: You will NOT be able to control your iPad on the SMART Board. It’s just a display. All activity must take place on the iPad. Your desktop is still active, if controlled by the mouse on your computer.

Setting Preferences for Reflector By right-clicking on the Reflector icon (found under hidden icons), you can set preferences for the following:

 Optimize the display for specific devices  Password protect to restrict who can connect and display a device  Select Fullscreen viewing on device launch o Always on Top is ideal for teacher display. Any student devices will display below in smaller size.

Managing Reflector While In Use When Reflector is active you can make quick changes or active functions by right-clicking and launching the dialogue box.

 Enter Full Screen will fill your computer screen with your iPad screen image.  Close Connection will end your session.  Show Frame displays a frame similar to your iPad with a camera and home button image. Click to uncheck and remove.  Frame Skin gives color options for your frame.  Scale gives you options to size the view of your image, while viewing other screens in the background. Drag and drop to move image around.  Automatic Orientation sets view to landscape when launched.  Force Landscape and Force Portrait alter image layout. Other Features

 Record your iPad screen o Ideal uses include walkthrough, review, and tutorials and demonstrations and presentations. o The recording output is an .mp4 video output with no audio. To include audio, you will need to use a screen casting tool like SnagIt and record a video of the video with your narration.

o To start recording: 1) Connect your iPad to Reflector through AirPlay

2) When your iPad screen is displayed on your computer screen, right-click on the image to view dialogue box. Click Start Recording.

3) A recording time will appear at the top of your iPad screen image.

4) To stop recording, right-click on the iPad screen image again. Click on Stop Recording.

5) Next, a Save As dialogue box will appear. Rename and save your .mp4 video file to your desired location.
