Older MacBook Pro laptops with Lion (10.6.8 or later) may use a 3rd party AP called AirParrot. The following resources can be found at www.risdmrc.wordpress.com (a)An up to date list of rooms equipped with AirPlay on campus. (b)A comprehensive video tutorial. • Apple Airplay Best Practices
APPLE AIRPLAY Rev:171114-0225 BEST PRACTICES: SET UP 1. NETWORK BEST PRACTICES F Minimize the number of apps running on the iOS device. F Minimize the number of Wi-Fi devices on the network. F Be aware that multiple simultaneous activities over Wi-Fi in the household such as web browsing, file downloading, and streaming content can effect AirPlay audio streaming performance. F Choose a Wi-Fi channel with low traffic. This minimizes Wi-Fi connectivity interference when multiple Wi-Fi networks are in the vicinity, such as in high occupance residences. F Remove the iOS device from any protective cases containing metal as AirPlay performance can be affected. F Turn off the Bluetooth feature of any device in the vicinity. F Check the firmware version of your router. Please contact your router supplier to upgrade the latest firmware version. F Use a DHCP reservation or set the server to a static IP address. F Change the DNS settings in the server to use a Google DNS IP address. F A Wi-Fi network with sufficient bandwidth and low latency is essential to have the best possible experience using the Airplay feature. F Disruption in the audio (audible gaps, crackling) may occur if the response times on the network are highly variable or greater than 10ms. F Test the ability of wireless devices to reach the router to test the condition of the wireless network. Open a command prompt on a laptop (if available) or terminal window and ping the router. Test the wireless device as close as possible to the wireless router to avoid interference or wireless range limitations.

  • Apple-Tv-Mirroring
sight.sound.success. Apple TV is an inexpensive consumer-level product that can duplicate or mirror the display of an iPad, iPhone, Mac or Windows computer. Many are turning to the technology to easily connect wirelessly to share presentations, documents and images, but this method should be evaluated thoroughly before implemented in a corporate environment. Quality Apple TV quality is good, but not great. The picture quality is slightly reduced compared to the original and static content works the best such as slide shows or spreadsheets. Sound tends to break up for a few seconds when first played through. Security The ease of use and required wireless network connection for Apple TV is a security concern for most corporate IT managers. It is most appropriately used in a guest network where its tendency to access multiple internet addresses is not a concern. It can be used within a corporate network as long as you clearly understand how it works. Apple TV will want to access the internet for consumer content such as iTunes and Pandora, but additional security procedures can be put in place to limit network access to just allow the mirroring function. In addition, Apple TV provides onscreen code and password settings to prevent the accidental interruption of a presentation. Installation Apple TV has to be on the same subnet as the devices that play through it, no exceptions. Connect a HDMI cable from the AppleTV to a display, connect the Apple TV to a network- through a Wi-Fi access point or by using an ethernet cable, connect an iPad, MacBook or other device wired or wirelessly to the same network, then install and run AirParrot mirroring software if required.
