The tune, "Dear Heart," by Henry Mancini, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, is the title ditty from a new film. There islittle doubt that itwill be the one to beat for this year's Oscar. Three classy singles boom the number this week. They're by Andy Williams (Columbia 4.43180), Jack Jones (Kapp 635) and Henry Mancini (RCA Victor 8458). Album of the week is the glowing original caster from Sammy Davis' From Left, Larry Newton, "Golden Boy" (Capitol SVAS 2124; VAS 2124). Am. • “Amarillo by Morning” the Life and Songs of Terry Stafford 1
In the early months of 1964, on their inaugural tour of North America, the Beatles seemed to be everywhere: appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show, making the front cover of Newsweek, and playing for fanatical crowds at sold out concerts in Washington, D.C. and New York City. On Billboard magazine’s April 4, 1964, Hot 100 2 list, the “Fab Four” held the top five positions. 28 One notch down at Number 6 was “Suspicion,” 29 by a virtually unknown singer from Amarillo, Texas, named Terry Stafford. The following week “Suspicion” – a song that sounded suspiciously like Elvis Presley using an alias – moved up to Number 3, wedged in between the Beatles’ “Twist and Shout” and “She Loves You.”3 The saga of how a Texas boy met the British Invasion head-on, achieving almost overnight success and a Top-10 hit, is one of triumph and “Amarillo By Morning” disappointment, a reminder of the vagaries The Life and Songs of Terry Stafford 1 that are a fact of life when pursuing a career in Joe W. Specht music. It is also the story of Stafford’s continuing development as a gifted songwriter, a fact too often overlooked when assessing his career. Terry Stafford publicity photo circa 1964. • 1966 Record Releases
1966 UK Record Releases by Date This is a list of all UK 45 singles and EP’s found on the 45 cat website and any new release sheets as of the 15/03/2016. Generally records that don't have a full release are not included. Some spoken word only records are not listed, plus “story” ones. Records that would have had a specific week when they were fist released, but which dates have not been found, but are known to have been issued on an actual month are included at the end of each weekly listing for the month in question. Numbers in red indicate ownership on 45 cat for those with 5 or more. In some cases, such as chart hits, the number of “wants” is added on. Caution should be noted with ownership figure, as the record might have only been available as a promo record that wasn’t issued to the public. These however will be popular with collectors of records. If it is known to be never issued to the public, what is called on the 45 Cat site as a “stock” record. Then that will not be included. In some cases records by well known acts were never issued as “stock” and some of these have been included, but such records are shown as “promo only”. They are included to show that the record couldn’t have made the charts in 1966. At least as a UK issue! Records that made the charts of the time are only stated where no specific week has been found or if a chart record fails to score 5 ownership indications - indicated by the term hit.

It’s the time of year for working in the yard, tending to gardens, taking trips, going on vacations and doing many other things. I hope you have been able to spend some fun time with family and friends. The summer has also been a busy time for your Officers and Board Members. We’ve been working on upgrades to the web site and its layout (check it out), cleaning up our membership roster, updating our Corporate Member policies, managing mini-meetings and much more. I’d like to extend a personal “Thank you” to the rest of the Board, our committee members and others who have been helping push us ahead behind the scenes. At the summer meeting of the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs I made a presentation about the Association of Beach and Shag Club DJ’s and the role we play in the shag world.
