Powhiri/Welcome 1 Themed Sessions of Short : Welcome to Show Me Shorts 2015. This year marks a significant Aroha Aotearoa 2 milestone – our 10th birthday. The enthusiastic response of our Isn’t Dead 4 growing audience illustrates how Show Me Shorts has cemented Double Take 6 its place in the hearts and minds of film-loving Kiwis, ever since My Generation 8 we launched back in 2006. We’re proud to be here! Plunge Into Other Worlds 10 New Zealanders are acknowledged as world leaders in making Trailblazers 12 short films. Did you know that we are the second country after Highlights 14 France to have the most short films screened in competition at Cannes? That’s why Show Me Shorts exists – to bring you the best Events: new local, and international, short films each year. And we’re Auckland Opening Night & doing it in 22 cinemas across the length and breadth of Aotearoa. Ceremony 16 We have a number of films making their world premiere in Wellington Opening Night 16 November during the festival, including James Cunningham’s Yoobee Short Film Talks 17 animated bedtime story Accidents, Blunders and Calamities, and a Christchurch-made documentary about the dating app Short Film Lab 17 Grindr, The Grind. We also have the honour of the first New Zealand screening of A.D. 1363, The End of Chivalry, by Jake Awards 18 Mahaffy, who recently won the Orizzonti Best Film at Venice for his feature film Free in Deed. The high Survey 19 level of craft demonstrated by the filmmakers selected for our programme is evidence of why Show Me Shorts is New Zealand’s only ®-accredited film festival. Cinema Venues: Alexandra 20 This year’s fresh batch of short films serves to take the pulse of Auckland: our world around us. Stewart Island 21 Bringing the New Zealand short film community together is part Tauranga 21 of our mission, so we invite you to join us for a number of special Timaru 21 events taking place during the festival. Our Opening Night & Wellington 21 Awards Ceremony takes place on 11 November at The Civic. A Whitianga 21 celebration launching the Wellington season at Paramount takes place on 19 November. Free Short Film Talks screenings, with Acknowledgements: Outside back cover filmmakers explaining how they made their films, will take place at ACG Yoobee School of Design in Auckland and Wellington (see page 17). Parents and teachers are also encouraged to introduce their children and students to the wonder of shorts by attending the My Generation section (see page 8). Group bookings are available for schools, or teachers can purchase our Show Me Shorts in Schools kit DVD and booklet available via our website.
