Grand Master What is that future date? We are tentatively looking at October 23, 2021 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY. We still need to comply with the Governor regarding the amount of people who can assemble, etc. Right now there are restrictions; we hope to see them lifted, which will allow Lodges to plan, vote on proxies, etc. You also see new signs of our membership awareness program. Will it work? Well, I do know that if we don’t try it will never work. Right now I am signing dispensations each week for increased candidate Initiations. I realize there is a backlog but this shows that you have done a great job in keeping their interest. As of this writing we are starting to visit Lodges, having rededications, fifty-plus-year certificate presentations. Concordant bodies are meeting and our Masonic youth organizations are meeting again. We may even start a new Lodge or two.

MCC Community Life Team he Community Life team at the Masonic Care Community plays an extremely important role in the care Tof our residents. The team has been instrumental in helping to support our residents who have experienced long periods of separation from their loved ones throughout the pandemic. One of the new primary responsibilities that the team took on was facilitating virtual visits for residents and their families. For more than 250 residents in the Health Pavilion and more than fifty residents in Wiley Hall, this was a large task. In addition, the team was working from older tablets and older iPads that did not always function well with virtual meeting applications including Zoom and Skype. Fortunately, we applied for and received support through a grant from the Mohawk Valley COVID-19 Response Fund that supported the purchase of new iPads for the Community Life team. These iPads have been instrumental in helping to support the hundreds of phone calls the Community Life team schedules and arranges for residents with their family Ice Cream Truck members. happiness and cheer. I was born in New York City but mostly grew up on Long Island, where I joined my Triangle family. I will always consider myself a Triangle girl. Being in Triangle taught me valuable lessons about friendship, loyalty and discipline - and really helped me with my memorization skills! Mt. Vernon Presents DeWitt Clinton

n Tuesday, April 6 our Grand Lodge’s DeWitt Clinton Award was presented to Mr. Matthew Malette. This award O“recognizes exceptional voluntary community service by Non- Masons and Non-Masonic organizations.” Worshipful Michael A. Hernandez, Secretary of Mount Vernon Lodge 3, made the presentation. The ceremony took place at the Historic Albany Foundation’s headquarters in Albany. Mr. Malette currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Historic Albany Foundation. Mount Vernon Lodge nominated Mr. Malette for this award for his many years of selfless work on the Albany Archives, which he started almost a decade ago. Through the Albany Archives, Matt brought to the Capital Region and the broader world a collection of stories that cover subjects such as: Albany’s Historic Washington Park (“The History of Washington Park”), the New York State Capitol (“FDR’s secret elevator”), and even Albany’s Masonic Lodge (“Masonic Lodge Home to Historic Sword”). His work on the Albany Archives over these many years has been fueled by nothing more than his passion for sharing our history. For this work, the Masonic Fraternity is proud to recognize him.

emember Mr. Bill Sheerin? The man with the trains set up in Wiley Hall? Well, we all know Rwhat happened over the past year. We moved his trains to the Horticultural Center on the grounds in Utica, NY but COVID protocols kept Bill and all residents safely in Wiley Hall. So, all the trains were gently moved but they never worked the right way—until yesterday, May 6, 2021. Bill, (now Brother Bill, since he started taking his Degrees prior to COVID) and other residents can make safe, monitored visits to the Horticultural Center. Bill went straight to the train set and in seconds fixed the problem. He also got a tour of all the greenhouse advances. Our train collecting effort slowed for obvious reasons but we are back on track. And still collecting. This will be a great program and I thank our Trustees for helping find space to do this. Since the train collecting looks like it’s gaining traction, what is next? Cars, boats, planes? It’s up to you.
