The President took the Chair and read the prayers. 2 THE LONDON PARALYMPICS 2012 (Formal Business) Ms Ficarra moved, according to notice: 1. That this House notes that: (a) from 29 August to 9 September 2012, the fourteenth Summer Paralympic Games were held in London, and (b) Australia was one of 164 nations competing where Australian athletes won a total of 85 medals of which 32 were Gold, 23 were Silver and 30 were Bronze. 2. That this House commends the dedication and perseverance of all Australian athletes that competed in these games. 3. That this House acknowledges the achievements of Australian athletes that were awarded medals in these games, including: (a) Jacqueline Freney awarded Gold for the Women’s 50 metre Freestyle - S7,     SPRING 2017 COMMENCEMENT Commencement SUNDAY, MAY 21, 2017 Viejas Arena, San Diego CA THE HISTORY OF ASHFORD UNIVERSITY FOUNDING The history of Ashford University begins in 1891, when Father John Murray invited the Sisters of St. Francis to help him teach students in Clinton, Iowa. By 1893, the Sisters were able to purchase some land in Clinton, on which they established their mother house and the Mount St. Clare Academy, a prep school for girls. The Academy and mother house quickly outgrew their old building. In 1910, the mother house and the academy moved into the newly constructed Mount St. Clare building. Seeing a need for teachers in Clinton County and the surrounding area, the Sisters founded Mount St. Clare College, the predecessor to Ashford University, in 1918. At that time, the Mount St. Clare Academy, College, and Convent were all housed in the same building. EXPANSION BECOMING A UNIVERSITY In 1950, the North Central In 2002, Mount St. Clare College Association of Colleges and began to offer a Master’s Schools first accredited Mount program over the internet.     Extract from Hansard [COUNCIL — Tuesday, 6 August 2013] p2572b-2573a Hon Ken Travers WHEELCHAIR SPORTS WA ASSOCIATION Statement HON KEN TRAVERS (North Metropolitan) [9.51 pm]: Earlier tonight a number of members made reference to the competition on the weekend between Liberal and Labor members at the Wheelchair Sports WA Association. It is worth formally acknowledging in the house that competition, which Wheelchair Sports has been keen to see occur. Wheelchair Sports was very happy with the way the competition turned out on the day. It did not hurt that the National Disability Insurance Scheme was agreed to at the same time. Western Australia has some of the premier wheelchair basketball players. The Perth Wheelcats team is absolutely the best sporting franchise in Western Australia. I long ago gave up on Australian Football League code–based teams and a number of other sporting groups. I still have a great soft spot for West Coast Fever, but our Perth Wheelcats team won five premierships in a row. The team has not won for the past couple of years partly because a number of players have been playing overseas or have injuries as a result of competing in the Olympic Games. However, after the excellent display of wheelchair basketball put on by members of this house and the other place, we were followed by a starting five that included at least three players who have been rated at various times the world’s best wheelchair basketballers. All five of the starting five who replaced us on the court have played for their national team.
