With a newly recorded species, P. comptipennis Enderlein, a total of six Korean aulacids are recognized: Aulacus salicius Sun and Sheng, 2007, Pristaulacus insularis Konishi, 1990, P. intermedius Uchida, 1932, P. kostylevi Alekseyev, 1986, P. jirisani Smith and Tripotin, 2011, and P. comptipennis Enderlein, 1912. A key to species of Korean Aulacidae is provided with, redescription and diagnostic characteristics of Pristaulacus comptipennis. Introduction Ogloblin (1935) described two species, Paranaphoidea silvana and P. clavata from South America. But Schauff (1983) erected the genus Omyomymar with P. silvanum as the type species by transferring the species P. silvana from Paranaphoidea to Omyomymar. In addition to the two species described by Ogloblin (1935), Schauff (1983) described two species, O. grisselli, and O. alar from the New World and also transferred P. clavata to Omyomymar. Later, Lin and Chiappini (1996) described three new species (O. glabrum, O. breve and O. longidigitum) from the Old World, China. There was no report of Omyomymar from India till 2010, when Manickavasagam & Rameshkumar (2011) reported this genus for the first time in India based on two females. Trichomalus rusticus (Walker) is treated as a valid species, resurrected from synonymy under T. lucidus (Walker), and T. lyttus (Walker) is trans- ferred from synonymy under T. lucidus and newly placed in synonymy with T. rusticus. Illus- trated keys to females and males are given to differentiate the six species (T. bracteatus (Walker), T. campestris (Walker), T. gynetelus (Walker), T. lucidus, T. perfectus (Walker), and T. rusticus) except for males of T. bracteatus and T. gynetelus. A lectotype female is designated for T. rusticus. Trichomalus campestris is newly recorded as a parasitoid of Ceutorhynchus cardariae Korotyaev. Implications of the host–parasitoid associations recovered by the surveys are dis- cussed relative to introduction of species to North America for classical biological control. Introduction Fairyflies (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Mymaridae) are internal egg parasitoids of insects except two species that parasitize the larvae of eulophids (Huber et al. 2006). From India, 31 genera and 134 species of Mymaridae have been reported so far (Manickavasagam and Rameshkumar 2013, Ramesh Kumar et al. 2013). The mymarid fauna of India is not well documented as several states and biodiversity rich areas of India have not been surveyed so far for mymarids. -

RECOMMENDED INSECT CLASSIFICATION FOR UGA ENTOMOLOGY CLASSES (2020) In an effort to standardize the hexapod classification systems being taught to our students by our faculty in multiple courses across three UGA campuses, I recommend that the Entomology Department adopts the basic system presented in the following textbook: Triplehorn, C.A. and N.F. Johnson. 2005. Borror and DeLong’s Introduction to the Study of Insects. 7th ed. Thomson Brooks/Cole, Belmont CA, 864 pp. This book was chosen for a variety of reasons. It is widely used in the U.S. as the textbook for Insect Taxonomy classes, including our class at UGA. It focuses on North American taxa. The authors were cautious, presenting changes only after they have been widely accepted by the taxonomic community. Below is an annotated summary of the T&J (2005) classification. Some of the more familiar taxa above the ordinal level are given in caps. Some of the more important and familiar suborders and families are indented and listed beneath each order. Note that this is neither an exhaustive nor representative list of suborders and families. It was provided simply to clarify which taxa are impacted by some of more important classification changes. Please consult T&J (2005) for information about taxa that are not listed below. Unfortunately, T&J (2005) is now badly outdated with respect to some significant classification changes. Therefore, in the classification standard provided below, some well corroborated and broadly accepted updates have been made to their classification scheme. 1 RECORDS OF THE HAWAII BIOLOGICAL SURVEY FOR 1998 Part 1: Articles Editors’ Preface We are pleased to present the fifth annual compilation of Records of the Hawaii Biological Survey. The number and diversity of taxa reported in these issues attest to the value of the Records as part of the ongoing effort to inventory the Hawaiian biota. The Hawaii Biological Survey, established by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1992 as a program of the Bishop Museum, is an ongoing natural history inventory of the Hawaiian Archipelago. It was created to locate, identify, and evaluate all native and non- native species of flora and fauna within the state; and by State Law to maintain the refer- ence collections of that flora and fauna for a wide range of uses. In coordination with related activities in other federal, state, and private agencies, the Hawaii Biological Sur- vey gathers, analyzes, and disseminates biological information necessary for the wise stewardship of Hawai‘i’s biological resources Some of the highlights of Records of the Hawaii Biological Survey for 1998 include: • an update of numbers of species in Hawai‘i; • a checklist of the Hymenoptera of Midway Atoll; • a list of the terrestrial isopods from Midway Atoll; • results of an extensive survey of apple snails from watercourses on O‘ahu; • new records of plants, insects, and other invertebrates resulting from field surveys and continued curation of Hawaiian collections at Bishop Museum and else- where An intensive and coordinated effort has been made by the Hawaii Biological Survey to make our products, including many of the databases supporting papers published here, available to the widest user-community possible through our web server.
