US Grant District Spring Camporee April 30-May 2, 2021 Cub World The 2021 Spring Camporee for US grant District is a Paul Bunyan theme. Scouts will be using and , therefore, All Scouts Participating in this Camporee Must Have Completed Totin Chip Training!! Troop leaders are needed to run the events for this camporee!! There are six events for scouts to participate in during the camporee.

Event 1 – Bow Challenge Patrols will use a to cut down a honeysuckle bush and then cut it into 6 equal pieces. Scouts must switch out for each cut. This is a timed event that starts when scouts pick up the saw and ends when they have their stacked behind the Cub World sign by the fire ring. Event 2 – Challenge This a two person saw event. Please tell scouts they will only pull the saw never push! Scouts will switch out both people when they are half way through the log. They will cut three 1-2” wide sections from the log. This is a timed event that starts once they touch the saw.

Event 3 – Log Tow Challenge Scouts will properly tie a timber hitch knot around a log and tow the log around a course. This is a timed event that starts when the scouts touch the rope and ends when they cross the finish line. There is 30 second penalty if the knot is not tied correctly. Event 4 – Tomahawk Throw Scouts will get 15 throws per patrol. Scouts must take turns. Scouts will get 3 points if the tomahawk sticks and 1 point if they hit the target. Once all points are added up, the patrol with the most points wins.

Event 5 – Wood Splitting Challenge Scouts will be given 1 log to split into 6 pieces. Scouts must switch out after each swing. Only one scout is allowed in the ax yard at a time. This is a timed event and starts when a scout enters the ax yard and ends when all six pieces are stacked behind the Cub World sign by the fire ring.

Event 6 – Match Light Challenge For this challenge scouts must bring their own hatchet. Hatchets must have a protective cover!! This is an accuracy challenge. Scouts will be given 20 strike anywhere matches, and using the blade of the hatchet they will try to strike the match with a downward stroke. If a match is broken it does not count. Scouts must switch between matches. The patrol that lights the most matches, wins.

BONUS!! : On Saturday night there will be a Dutch oven cook off! One dish per Troop, 1st place will win a new Dutch oven!!
