KANE CALLS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE ON ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT The Alumni Association will sponsor its second Leadership Conference on campus on Saturday morning, , 1968. In announcing the theme, “Involvement ‘68,” Alumni President Daniel H. Kane expressed the hope that the conference will be suc- cessful in producing greater involvement on the part of our alumni. Brother Daniel Bernian, F.S.C., President of the College will welcome the partici pating alumni at 9:00 a.m. in the College Union Theatre. Following this, John L. McCloskey, Vice President of Public Relations, will offer a projection on La Salle’s future and James J. McDonald, Director of Alumni, will discuss the direction of alumni activity in recent years. Then President Kane will offer his plan for an alumni advisory council. Following a coffee break at 10 o’clock, discussion groups, formed largely along professional lines, will con sider the plan offered by Mr. Kane. These discussion groups will be in the areas of accounting, education, finance, law, management, marketing, medicine, physical sciences and social responsibility. Reconvening in the theatre at 11:30 the alumni present will participate in an open discussion and have an opportunity to pose questions to a panel composed of the officers of the Association: Daniel H. Kane, President; Harry J. White, Ph.D., Vice President; Nicholas P. Dienna, Treasurer; and the Alumni Office Staff - James J. McDonald, Director and Francis J. McGovern, Assistant Director. Finally, Charles A.J. Halpin, Jr., Esq., President of the Faculty Senate, will bring the program to a close by giving his summary of the conference. John P. McDade is chairman of the conference committee which has worked over the summer months to schedule a program that will match the success of the initial leadership conference held two years ago. Any alumnus who has not received an invitation but is interested in attending the conference is urged to call the Alumni Office (VI 8-8300).

COACH GOLA TO “TAP OFF” DOWNTOWN LUNCHEONS Thomas J. Gola, who was named head basketball coach of the Explorers on August 14, will inaugurate the 1968-69 luncheon series of the Alumni Downtown Club when he will be guest speaker on October 2, 1968 at the Adelphia Hotel, 13th and Chestnut Streets. Gola, a three time All American who led the college’s basketball teams to their greatest heights, was signed to a four year contract replacing Jim Harding, who resigned to accept the coaching position of the Minnesota Pipers of the American Basketball Association. After his graduation from La Salle in 1955, Tom played in the National Basketball Association for a decade with the Warriors and New York Knickerbockers. He helped lead the Warriors to the world’s championship in 1956. Gola retired from the NBA after the 1966 season and was elected to the Pennsylvania State Legislature from the 170th District. He is running for reelection in the Fall. He also operates an insurance and real estate business in Fort Wash ington, Pa. The luncheon will start at 12:30 p.m. in the Adelphia Room. Tickets are $3.25. Advance reservations may be made by calling the Alumni Office, VI 8-8300. With the October 2 luncheon, the Downtown Club will be starting its sixth year of operation. Alumni Presi dent Daniel H. Kane has named Joseph P. Braig, Esq. ‘59 chairman for the coming year. Braig, who is associated with the law firm of Crumlish & Kania, plans a less rigid date structure for the luncheons. No longer will they be necessarily on the third Wednesday of the month. Further luncheons will be announced in the near future.
