Peziza oliviae, P. lohjaoensis, P. montirivicola and a new species from Norway form a well-supported clade within the Peziza s. str. group based on study of the internal transcribed spacer + 5.8S rRNA gene, large subunit rRNA gene and the 6–7 region of the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase II gene. Like P. oliviae and P. montirivicola, the new species, P. nordica, is distinctly stipi- tate and occurs on wood that has been inundated by fresh water. These species also have paraphyses with yellow vacuolar inclu- sions. They fruit early in the season or at high elevations and are presumed to be saprobic. A discussion of application of the name Peziza is given. Keywords: Ascomycota, molecular phylogeny, Pezizales, taxonomy. The present work was begun to determine the Schwein.) Croat., Vol. 7, No 2., 91¿105, 1998, Zagreb The present research on Discomycetes in the Kvarner region has produced the first Croatian record of S. barlae, the first record of the genus Scutellinia in the Croatian North Adriatic. This European species is relatively poorly known as it has been so far recorded in only ten localities situated mostly in the Mediterranean area. Collections of the species were examined in detail through a proposed standardised procedure and compared with other collections outside Croatia as well as with the similar species S. minor. Although S. barlae and S. minor inhabit quite different bioclimatic areas, their closest localities in Croatia, are only 45 km distant. The January mean air temperature isotherm of 0 °C clearly separates all so far known localities of these two species. Works of the Faculty of Forestry University of Sarajevo No. 2, 2015 (113-125) UDK 582.282.16:712.2(1-751.2) (497.6 Sutjeska) SOME PEZIZOMYCETES COLLECTED ON THE TERRITORY OF THE SUTJESKA NATIONAL PARK Neki pripadnici razreda Pezizomycetes prikupljeni na području Nacionalnog parka Sutjeska Nihad Omerović1, Nedim Jukić1 Abstract In August 2014, a short mycological research was carried out in the Sutjeska National Park, Bosnia and Herzegovina, at several localities along the rivers Sutjeska and Hrčavka. The main objective of this research was to start documenting presence of fungal species in this area so that a provisional list of potentially rare and endangered species could be proposed in the future. Over 20 species, members of the phylum Ascomycota, were collected and examined (families Pyronemataceae, Pezizaceae, Ascobolaceae and Helotiaceae), some of which were recorded for the first time for Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a first step towards the aforementioned goal, three identified species - Peziza polarispinosa J. MORAVEC, Parascutellinia carneosanguinea (FUCKEL) T. SCHUMACH., Marcelleina brevicostatispora J. MORAVEC were selected to be presented in this paper. Key words: Peziza polarispinosa, Parascutellinia carneosanguinea, Marcelleina brevicostatispora, Pyronemataceae, NP Sutjeska, Tjentište INTRODUCTION - Uvod The mycological research conducted in August 2014 in the Sutjeska National Park was a part of the CfE’s2 campaign „Bitka za Sutjesku“ that was aimed to provide evidence against construction of small hydroelectric power plants within the territory of the National Park, by collecting biodiversity and ecological data and evaluating potential impact from the announced construction. The main objective of the mycological research was to produce a list of currently present fungal species, to discover potentially rare and endangered species within protected area and to assess the environmental impact from the habitat alterations.

  • Notes on Ascomycetes I: Scutellinia (Cooke) Lamb
ACTA BOT. ISL. 10: 27-30, 1990. Notes on Ascomycetes I: Scutellinia (Cooke) lamb Helgi Hallgrfmsson and Trond Schumacher Lagan1si 2, 700 Egilssta3ir, Iceland and Botany Div., Dept. of Biology, Univ. of Oslo, Box 1045 Blindern, N-0316 Oslo 3, Norway ABSTRACT: About 30 specimens of Scute11inia from Iceland kept in the herbaria of the Akureyri Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and the Botanical Museum in Oslo (0) have been investigated. Eight species represent new records for Iceland, and are reported on below. The oldest index of Icelandic plants (MttLLER 1770) lists Peziza scutellata as one of the ca 10 fungus species recorded, indicative of a Scutellinia species being at hand. ROSTRUP (1903) recorded Scutellinia scutellata (L.) Lamb., based on specimens collected by 61afur Daviosson and C. H. Ostenfeld. P. LARSEN ( 1932) recorded Sphaerospora trechispora (Berk. & Br.) Sacc. (= Scutellinia trechispora (Berk. & Br.) Lamb.) for the first time, and HOLM & HOLM (1984) added Scutellinia cejpii (Vel.) Svr., and G9lTzSCHE (1987) S. arenosa (Vel.) Le Gal, S. macrospora (Svr.) Le Gal and S. subhirtella Svr. In 1984 the second author had the opportunity to examine a collection of ca 25 specimens of Scutellinia deposited at the Natural History Museum in Akureyri, mainly collected by the first author. Some additional specimens from Iceland, col lected by B. Lynge and J. Lid in 1939 and deposited at the Botanical Museum, Oslo, have also been recently reinvesti gated. Of the 10 species identified from Iceland, eight were new to the country. These eight new species are shortly com mented upon below. SCUTELLINIA CRINITA (Bull.) Lamb.

  • Some Critically Endangered Species from Turkey
Fungal Conservation issue 4: February 2014 Fungal Conservation Note from the Editor This issue of Fungal Conservation is being put together in the glow of achievement associated with the Third International Congress on Fungal Conservation, held in Muğla, Turkey in November 2013. The meeting brought together people committed to fungal conservation from all corners of the Earth, providing information, stimulation, encouragement and general happiness that our work is starting to bear fruit. Especial thanks to our hosts at the University of Muğla who did so much behind the scenes to make the conference a success. This issue of Fungal Conservation includes an account of the meeting, and several papers based on presentations therein. A major development in the world of fungal conservation happened late last year with the launch of a new website (http://iucn.ekoo.se/en/iucn/welcome) for the Global Fungal Red Data List Initiative. This is supported by the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, which also made a most generous donation to support participants from less-developed nations at our conference. The website provides a user-friendly interface to carry out IUCN-compliant conservation assessments, and should be a tool that all of us use. There is more information further on in this issue of Fungal Conservation. Deadlines are looming for the 10th International Mycological Congress in Thailand in August 2014 (see http://imc10.com/2014/home.html). Conservation issues will be featured in several of the symposia, with one of particular relevance entitled "Conservation of fungi: essential components of the global ecosystem”. There will be room for a limited number of contributed papers and posters will be very welcome also: the deadline for submitting abstracts is 31 March.

MYCOTAXON Volume 111, pp. 477–480 January–March 2010 Two new genus records for Turkish mycota Yusuf Uzun1, Kenan Demirel1, Abdullah Kaya2* & Fahrettin Gücin3 *[email protected] 1Yüzüncü Yıl University, Science & Arts Faculty TR 65080, Van Turkey 2Adıyaman University, Education Faculty TR 02040, Adıyaman Turkey 3Fatih University Science & Arts Faculty TR 34500, Istanbul Turkey Abstract — The genera Geopyxis (Pyronemataceae) and Asterophora (Lyophyllaceae) are recorded from Turkey for the first time, based on collections of Geopyxis carbonaria and Asterophora lycoperdoides. Short descriptions and photographs of the taxa are provided. Key words —Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, biodiversity, macrofungi Introduction Geopyxis carbonaria (Pyronemataceae) is an abundant post-fire discomycete in coniferous forests. This fleshy mushroom has a complex life cycle and is mycorrhizal on deep roots of members of the Pinaceae, and fruits only when the trees die (Vrålstad et al. 1998). Since it often fruits prolifically after wildfires, it has also been considered to be a possible indicator of imminent morel fruiting (Obst & Brown 2000). Asterophora lycoperdoides (Lyophyllaceae) is a relatively rare basidiomycete that parasitizes other mushrooms in the family Russulaceae, especially Russula nigricans and Russula densifolia. It usually fruits after the host has blackened and begun to decay (Kuo 2006). The fungus generally reproduces asexually by brown powdery chlamydospores formed on the cap surface; its gills, which are often absent or deformed, produce sexual basidiospores only infrequently (Roody 2003). According to checklists (Sesli & Denchev 2009) and recently published data (Solak et al. 2009, Kaya 2009), neither of the above taxa have previously been recorded from Turkey. The study aims to contribute to the macromycota of Turkey.

  • Fungi Richness in Disturbed Areas Lopez 1 Species Abundance Of
Fungi Richness in Disturbed Areas Lopez 1 Species Abundance of Fungi is Greater in Landslide Areas Compared to Undisturbed Areas of the Forest in Monteverde, Puntarenas, Costa Rica Sunshine Lopez Department of Biological Science University of California, Merced UCEAP Tropical Biology and Conservation Program, Fall 2017 15 December 2017 ABSTRACT Fungi plays an important role in the ecosystem by decomposing dead plants, and other organic matter. Without this process, there would be an accumulation of organic material in the forest which would go un-decomposed. Fungi which are saprotrophic macrofungi from the phyla Basidioycota and Ascomycota have the vital job of recycling nutrients from dead plant material in the forest back into the soil. The abundance of organic material created by the landslides on the reserve behind Estación Biológica in Monteverde, Puntarenas, Costa Rica may have given rise to nearly twice the amount of different species of fungi (n=31) compared to those alongside undisturbed trails (n=18) where there was not an abundance of organic material. I found more basidiomycetes compared to ascomycetes in both the landslides and the undisturbed areas. Some types of fungi require a succession of decomposition to take place before establishing mycelium, whereas I found others which were substrate specific. Species of fungi which were very common were Agaricales sensu lato, Coprinellus disseminatus, and Scutellinia scutellata. Other species were substrate specific, such as the red mushrooms of Hygrocybe coccinea.
