Our Mission: Inspire Jews throughout the world to connect with their People, heritage, and homeland, and empower them to build a thriving Jewish future and a strong Israel. We Are There: The URGENT and the IMPORTANT In 2014 we were reminded: a crisis for the global Jewish people could happen any time. Eastern Ukraine burned with conflict between Ukrainian and separatist forces. In Israel, increasing missiles from Gaza led to near-constant air-raid sirens in southern Israel, and the country was drawn into Operation Protective Edge. In France, increasing anti-Semitism combined with a floundering economy led to a dramatically higher Aliyah. The Jewish Agency already had infrastructure in these places, so we were able to quickly and effectively meet new needs. And while meeting those needs we continued connecting Jews to Israel and to each other, in dozens of countries across the globe. We continued our important work to provide Jewish education, facilitate Aliyah, and help people in need. We revitalized Jewish communities in the former Soviet Union and Central Europe, and empowered the next generation of Jews, around the world, to develop vibrant Jewish communities and global peoplehood. In Israel, we continued to nurture a caring society, offer opportunities to disadvantaged population groups, and promote diverse expressions of Jewish culture. For 85 years, wherever the Jewish people have been found, we have been there — and we continue to be there, thanks to our friends and partners who believe in the power of the Jewish collective. To all those who continue to trust us to lay the groundwork for the Jewish future: we are there, and we always will be, thanks to you. Prior to 1948, we rose to the challenge of building the state-in-waiting, creating the infrastructure for the vibrant society Israel was to become. After Israel’s establishment, we rose to the challenge of ingathering the exiles, bringing more than three million Jews home from the four corners of the globe. Today’s reality presents the Jewish people with a new set of challenges, and The Jewish Agency is rising to the occasion once again.

    A NNUAL R EPORT 2003 Americas Society Americas Council of the Americas Council Dear Friends: I am delighted to report that the Council of the Americas and the Americas Society took unprecedented steps in 2003 to renew and reinvigorate our commitment to our mission and our members. Last August, Susan Segal was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer. Susan had been a member of the Board of Directors for eight years when I charged her with the task of chairing a Strategic Planning Committee. The plan was enthusiastically endorsed by our Board. Thus, it made sense to appoint her to implement it. At a time of profound change in the Americas, Susan has the energy and the vision to assure that the organization continues to play a leading role in affecting the central concerns of the region. Since the latter half of 2003, we have taken significant steps to execute our new strategic plan. Our first priority was to assemble a first-class senior management team open to new ideas and committed to an efficiently run organization capable of top-tier execution. Under this team’s leadership, the Council of the Americas and the Americas Society have made significant strides in accomplishing our mission of being the preeminent U.S.-based not-for-profit organization solely committed to addressing current foreign policy, trade, economic, political, and cultural issues of the Western Hemisphere. We are very excited about our direction and remain steadfast in our desire to exercise significant influence on hemispheric policy on behalf of our members and in support of our core values, which include democracy, the rule of law, and free trade.

The Committee has completed a thoughtful ten-month process, carefully reviewing the issues and exploring a variety of options before coming to the conclusions contained in this document. We trust that you will bring these recommendations to the Board of Directors of the Claims Conference for review and action. Through this experience, I have become convinced that the work of the Claims Conference is not adequately understood or appreciated. I hope that this report and the results of this planning process will help dispel the confusion about the past and future achievements of the Claims Conference. No amount of money can compensate for the destruction of innocent human beings and thriving communities or the decimation of the Jewish people as a whole by the Nazis. We can try to use available resources - specifically the proceeds of the sale of communal and unclaimed property in the former East Germany - to respond to the most critical needs related to the consequences of the Shoah. This is what the enclosed Plan tries to accomplish. I want to thank the members of the Committee who came from near and far for their attendance and commitment, and for the high quality of their participation.

Aktuelna bezbednosna situacija u regionu a posebno u neposred- nom okruženju, diktirala je odgovarajuću organizaciono funkcionalnu struk- turu obaveštajno bezbednosnog sistema Izraela koja se dijalektički modifi- kovala prema novonastalim političko bezbednosnim izazovima i rizicima. Istorija jevrejskog naroda pokazala je da formiranje nacionalne i neza- visne države Izrael do danas prate brojni, otvoreni problemi, ugrožavajući faktori, koji se manifestuju kroz različite oblike organizovanog nasilja, rato- ve, terorizam i dr. U okolnostima kontinuirane borbe za opstanak izraelske države i nacije, značajno a možda i ključno mesto zauzimaju obaveštajne aktivnosti, koje su ugaoni kamen u procesu obezbeđivanja obaveštajnih informacija kojim se definiše strategija nacionalne bezbednosti Izraela, na- cionalni interesi i spoljnopolitički prioriteti. Akcenat u radu je na strukturi i funkciji obaveštajno bezbednosnog si- stema Izraela u korelaciji sa unutrašnjom i spoljnom bezbednošću ove dr- žave. Ključne reči: Izrael, obaveštajno bezbednosni sistem, obaveštajne službe, nacionalna bezbednost Nastanak i razvoj države Izrael rvi počeci nastanka jevrejske države, (hebrejski Medinat Yisra’el), vezuju se za P kraj 19. veka kada je razmatrano pitanje na kojim teritorijama, koje su već bile na- seljene „sinovima izrailjevim“,1 sprovesti plan ostvarivanja vekovnog sna Jevreja za sop- stvenom, nacionalnom i nezavisnom državom. Razmatrane su dve opcije, i to kroz even- tualno stvaranje jevrejske države i naseljavanje Jevreja u Argentini ili formiranje jevrejske države u Palestini.

    2013 / 2014 Performance Report How is a program born? Much like any dream, it starts with the vision of a passionate individual, and comes into being through months and years of hard work. Strategic work to identify unfulfilled needs in relevant markets is followed by gauging feasibility. Next comes building strong programmatic content to answer those needs, as well as to advance the greater organizational mission. At the same time, there are partnerships to forge and resources to obtain. There are pilots to plan down to the last logistic, to evaluate, and to adjust accordingly. There are participants to keep in touch with; there are alliances to maintain. Often times, one or two individuals do several jobs for many years.
