Kings usually arrive in chariots, preceded by their Sunday, July 13 armies, with a display of pomp and power. But this king Saturday, July 12 will come meekly, riding not on a war horse, but on a 5:00 pm John Helmstetter - Friends lowly donkey. And he will bring peace, banishing all the weapons and signs of war. This prophecy is fulfilled Sunday, July 13 when Jesus rides meekly into Jerusalem on the back of a 7:30 am For The People donkey on Palm Sunday. But the Gospel for today 9:00 am Carmine Ricciardi - Family suggests that it also awaits fulfillment in our lives--when 10:30 am Barbara Wojak - Friends 12:00 pm Tom O’Grady - Family we bear the gentle yoke of Jesus, taking on his humility. .Second Reading: This passage reflects a type of Pauline theme: the contrast of flesh and spirit. For Saint PRAY FOR OUR SICK Paul flesh and spirit represent more than just the body Kiran Fernando, Maryjo Cece, Sandra Luehrs Shaw, and soul of an individual. They represent different world Kurt Geisert, Theresa Nutile, Danny Burgers views, different ways of living. Those who have a share in the Spirit of Christ by Baptism have begun anew life in the Spirit; our bodies will come to share in that new life. REST IN PEACE . The Gospel: This passage comes immediately Joseph A. Lupico, following some sharp words of Jesus to the towns of Eleanore Pettoni, Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, where the people Alena Caryn Nicholas refused to receive the word of God. Jesus turns to his Father with praise, for God reveals great mysteries to the childlike, while hiding them from “the wise and the CANDLE INTENTIONS learned”. What does it mean to be childlike? It does not mean that one is naïve or unaware; rather, to be Church: Vincent De Vivo childlike is to be willing to learn, open to new things and dependent on God as a child is dependent on parents. 2 595 Inviting all active or inactive nurses STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE The main source of operating funds for And volunteers to join the St. Thomas is our weekly / holyday offertory WELLNESS ministry of St. Thomas collections. • Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2018
Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2018 Conforming to General Convention 2018 1 Preface Christians have since ancient times honored men and women whose lives represent heroic commitment to Christ and who have borne witness to their faith even at the cost of their lives. Such witnesses, by the grace of God, live in every age. The criteria used in the selection of those to be commemorated in the Episcopal Church are set out below and represent a growing consensus among provinces of the Anglican Communion also engaged in enriching their calendars. What we celebrate in the lives of the saints is the presence of Christ expressing itself in and through particular lives lived in the midst of specific historical circumstances. In the saints we are not dealing primarily with absolutes of perfection but human lives, in all their diversity, open to the motions of the Holy Spirit. Many a holy life, when carefully examined, will reveal flaws or the bias of a particular moment in history or ecclesial perspective. It should encourage us to realize that the saints, like us, are first and foremost redeemed sinners in whom the risen Christ’s words to St. Paul come to fulfillment, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” The “lesser feasts” provide opportunities for optional observance. They are not intended to replace the fundamental celebration of Sunday and major Holy Days. As the Standing Liturgical Commission and the General Convention add or delete names from the calendar, successive editions of this volume will be published, each edition bearing in the title the date of the General Convention to which it is a response.

RANDOM THOUGHTS DIFERENTES PENSAMIENTOS from Father Bill Promesso About Pope Francis: Life, Spirituality & Mission Set aside an hour on Wednesday, July 18 at 7PM for a special presentation on Pope Francis by Zaid Chabaan. Zaid is a priesthood candidate for the Archdiocese and studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. Zaid is currently serving a pastoral year at Divine Child Parish in Dearborn. We are at $75,800 from 331 families, He has developed this presentation and I invited him to that is 88% of our goal of $85,316. share it with us as an element of adult formation. Still needed $9,516 Christmas in the Park I’m very excited by our July community event. The Market Center Park (Eureka & Trenton Rd) is an excellent venue for a pig roast and an evening outdoor concert. I hope that many of you are planning to join us on Saturday, July 28 after 5:00 Mass. But I’m also praying that you’ll invite one or two unchurched family members or friends. This event is one of the “shallow entry points” of which I spoke a few weeks ago. Our work of evangelization might not begin with inviting someone to church on the weekend, but rather with encountering Catholics at less formal and intimidating gatherings. When we invite, then we are on the path to accompany someone on their spiritual journey. When they encounter our St Cyprian community, they are likely to want more! PPC The Parish Pastoral Council has two open seats for our 2018-19 meetings. We need one general member for the PPC and a new Downriver Vicariate Pastoral Council representative who also sits on our PPC.
