  • Water Vapor Estimation Using Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting Waves - Field Test in Tokyo Metropolitan Area and Trial Production of Small Devices
MTT46-13 Japan Geoscience Union Meeting 2019 Water vapor estimation using digital terrestrial broadcasting waves - Field test in Tokyo metropolitan area and trial production of small devices - *Seiji Kawamura1, Hiroshi HANADO1, Hiroki Ohta1, Yoshinobu Matsumura2, Ryosuke Mori2, Kazuyoshi Noda2, Teruaki Hasegawa2 1. National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, 2. Socionext Inc. We have developed a method to measure water vapor in horizontal direction using digital terrestrial broadcasting waves [1]. Radio waves are delayed due to water vapor through propagation. Water vapor can be estimated using propagation delay of digital terrestrial broadcasting waves. The basic idea of using propagation delay is the same as that of retrieving PWV by using GNSS. In this study, we estimate water vapor near a ground surface from the horizontal propagation delay of digital terrestrial broadcasting waves. The main features of this observation are, no need for transmitters (small and low cost due to receiving only), applicability wherever digital terrestrial broadcasting is available, and its high time resolution. Our target is to improve the accuracy of numerical weather forecast for severe weather phenomena such as localized heavy rainstorms in urban areas through data assimilation. We have developed a real-time delay measurement system with a software-defined radio (SDR) technique, whose main components are USRP-N210 and PC (prototype). Seven measurement systems are now under operation around Tokyo metropolitan area. Although the main source of digital terrestrial broadcasting waves in Tokyo area is the Tokyo Skytree, some small radio towers that transmit Television Saitama, Chiba Television, Television Kanagawa, and do on can be also available.

"Qolle" is the Brand Name used for TAMURA CORPORATION Professional Studio Equipment, which includes a Digital/Analog broadcasting and recording console and a sophisticated synchronization machine controller for use in post-production studios. Our products have made a favourable impact in Japan and we are now aiming to promote our quality products overseas. 2 3 In the Qolle Digital Audio Console AMQ Series, the AMQ3000 is a top-end digital audio product with a maximum available 128 audio processing channels and a 5.1 surround mixing program. It incorporates many " live on air " ideas and is most suitable in a TV or Radio broadcasting environment. For example all digital audio inputs have a sampling rate converter in order to input 28 ~ 50 KHz synchronous signals , for example changing from 'lock to unlock', using a noiseless patching process. For analog input signals A/D Converter circuits have 30dB head-room! Additionally each channel's processing unit is equipped with an audio delay function that can be controlled from the console. Haven't you experienced the following situation during a live program "Hey! The Lip-sync doesn't match! Change the delay timing!" The AMQ3000's delay sound process is designed to make a natural- sounding switch using cross-fading between old and new delay times. These ideas and specifications are born from experience in the field and aim to satisfy the most stringent of sound engineer's demands. Also coming to the market soon is our AMQ1000, a 16 channel digital mixer, which will be ideal for small and medium scale radio broadcasts! The following Audio mixer models are great for outside or field production.

  • Hunter X Hunter's
i Getting into the Schwing of Things: Hunter x Hunter’s Progressive Gender Depictions and Exploration of Non-Binary Possibilities By: Michaela Bakker A thesis submitted to Victoria University of Wellington in fulfilment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Arts in Film Studies. Victoria University of Wellington 2017 ii ABSTRACT: This thesis investigates the depiction of gender in Madhouse’s 2011 television anime adaptation of Hunter x Hunter; a commercially successful ongoing manga (comic) series with a multitude of incarnations. The thesis examines three groups of characters across three chapters, respectively: androgynous men who embody conflicting attributes of hegemonic and homosexual masculinities; masculine women who defy traditional stereotypes via their association of domesticity with violence; and gender ambiguous characters who potentially challenge the established gender binary model by demonstrating loyalty to neither category. These characters are studied in relation to both Japanese and western gender norms to highlight cultural differences, however emphasis is placed on western interpretation through the application of western theories to the text and incorporation of western fan discourse into my own textual analysis. I assess the characters with an understanding that gender is not a biological prescription but a social construction, and observe how characters are easily able to adopt masculine and feminine qualities regardless of their implied sex. I additionally aim to shed light on how Hunter x Hunter (2011) refreshingly tests the notion that mainstream shōnen (boys’) series are necessarily conservative in their alignment with normative gender ideals; on the contrary, Hunter x Hunter (2011) fearlessly challenges its viewers to question established gender norms and encourages discussion about the legitimacy of binary gender categories.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Inside the Media Mix: Collective Creation in Contemporary Manga and Anime A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Film and Television by Bryan Hikari Hartzheim 2015 © Copyright by Bryan Hikari Hartzheim 2015 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Inside the Media Mix: Collective Creation in Contemporary Manga and Anime by Bryan Hikari Hartzheim Doctor of Philosophy in Film and Television University of California, Los Angeles, 2015 Professor John T. Caldwell, Chair Japanese creative media – particularly, its comics, animation, and video games – has found success globally, but it is primarily a product made for and by a domestic audience. What characterizes the success of its various creative industries on the domestic level, before they reach out to global spheres? This dissertation attempts to provide an answer to this question by examining the logics of franchise media production in Japan. I conduct ethnographic fieldwork into Japan’s manga and anime industries, as well as close analyses of concomitant transmedia texts, in order to demonstrate the collective authorship that surrounds the production of contemporary media in these industries today. By focusing on the production of texts in commercial outlets such as Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump and Toei Animation Studies, I show how large-scale, franchise media in Japanese production is organized, managed, and distributed through small networks of mangaka, ii assistants, editors, and readers,

  • The Review Team of a New Vision for Utilizing Radio Waves
(Annex 2) The Review Team of a New Vision for Utilizing Radio Waves REPORT July 2010 http://www.soumu.go.jp/english/ict Preface In Japan various modes of radio wave utilization systems such as wireless LAN and electronic tags, etc., in addition to handheld telephones, are popular/utilized. The expectation is that in the future too, because of progress made in new radio wave utilization systems and services, problems such as area vitalization will need to be solved via use of radio waves as a means of information transmission in local communities, etc. However, radio waves are limited and scarce, thus making it necessary to review from the point of view of how to continue to attempt to effectively utilize radio waves in making people’s lives more convenient. For that purpose a “Review Team of a New Vision for Utilizing Radio Waves” was set up within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in December last year that has been reviewing effective utilization of radio waves from the users’ point of view and with regard to using so-called “white space” a measure of more effectively utilizing radio waves in Japan. Prof. Norihisa Doi of the Research and Development Department of Chuo University was requested to be Chairman, as well as other experts in the information and communication field being requested to participate in the same Review Team from the point of view of technology, economy, etc. and who have dealt with and reviewed various matters, for example inviting propositions, holding public hearings, and implementing a survey on radio waves in ensuring early realization of white space utilization.
