Il reçut le grade de bachelier ès arts de l’Université de Montréal et devint journaliste au Le Canada. Pendant onze ans, il occupa divers postes à La Patrie. En 1933, il fut nommé rédacteur sportif du Le Petit Journal et remplit ces fonctions jusqu’à ce qu’il fonde, en 1957, son propre journal, Samedi- Dimanche . Lorsque Samedi-Dimanche cessa de paraître en 1959, il réintégra son poste à La Patrie comme chroniqueur et rédacteur d’articles de fond. Au cours de sa carrière, il fut médorateur ou invité à de nombreux programmes à la radio et à la télévision. Il écrivit l’Épopée des Canadiens et représenta le Québec, avec Elmer Ferguson, pour les candidatures au Temple de la renommée des sports canadiens. Pendant six ans, il fut vice-président de la Commission athlétique de Montréal et en 1955, il fut élu président de la Fédération canadienne de boxe. En 1954, il fut élu conseiller municipal de Montréal et réélu en 1957. Il est décédé en novembre 1971.

Ramene souvent a une synecdoque - ses yeux -, ce joueur de hockey, encore en activite, avait deja accede, chez les anglophones comme chez les 1 francophones, au statut de mythe • Dne douzaine d'annees plus tard, qU'est devenu cet objet discursif ? Prises en synchronie, ces «reu­ vres », au-deIa de leurs differences, relevent d'un meme etat de discours et leur analyse mettra en lumiere la transformation du mythe de Maurice Richard, tant sous la poussee de phenomenes locaux que de modifications globales dans la lecture des faits sportifs.

    Maurice Richard : l’origine d’une passion partisane, 1942-1945 Étienne Lapointe, candidat à la maîtrise en histoire à l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) Résumé L’émeute du Forum de mars 1955 en réaction à la suspension du joueur vedette du Canadien de Montréal a marqué l’imaginaire collectif des Québécois francophones au point qu’on en a fait un événement illustrant la volonté d’affirmation nationale des Canadiens français. À la faveur de la Révolution tranquille et avec le passage du temps, Maurice Richard est ainsi devenu le symbole de cette affirmation nationale. Le présent article revient au début de la carrière de Richard afin d’illustrer comment, avant d’être un mythe national, il a été un héros sportif. En épluchant la presse sportive, on peut constater que la passion dont il a été l’objet se met en place par le biais du discours journalistique dès les débuts du joueur. Les trois premières saisons de Richard sont ici étudiées à la recherche des traces cette passion partisane. Introduction En septembre 2016, deux nouvelles ont rappelé que le nom de Maurice Richard ainsi que son souvenir étaient bien vivants au Québec. D’abord, le 8 septembre un article de la Presse canadienne annonçant que le club-école du Club de hockey Canadien désormais basé à Laval, allait porter le nom de « Rocket » a été relayé notamment par le quotidien The Gazette1. Quelques jours plus tard, soit le 14 septembre, la députée du Parti libéral du Québec dans la circonscription de Crémazie, Marie Montpetit, a officiellement déposé une demande pour modifier le nom de sa circonscription en faveur du célèbre ailier droit du Canadien de Montréal.

    JOOSE PALONEN Kansallispeliä. Kamppailu kansallisista identiteeteistä jääkiekkoilija Maurice Richardia käsittelevissä teksteissä Tampereen yliopisto Politiikan tutkimuksen laitos Kansainvälinen politiikka Pro gradu -tutkielma Toukokuu 2008 Tampereen yliopisto Politiikan tutkimuksen laitos PALONEN, JOOSE: Kansallispeliä. Kamppailu kansallisista identiteeteistä jääkiekkoilija Maurice Richardia käsittelevissä teksteissä Pro gradu -tutkielma, 114 s. Kansainvälinen politiikka Toukokuu 2008 Pro gradu -työssäni tutkin ja tulkitsen kamppailua, jota jääkiekkoilija Maurice Richardia (1921- 2000) käsittelevissä teksteissä käydään kansallisista identiteeteistä. Aineistooni kuuluu seitsemän Richardista kertovaa kirjallista teosta. Luen näistä teksteistä esiin identiteettipolitiikkaa sen suhteen, miten niissä rakennetaan, vahvistetaan ja ylläpidetään ja toisaalta haastetaan tai puretaan tulkintoja kansallisista identiteeteistä. Kiinnostukseni kohteena olevat identiteetit ankkuroituvat quebeciläisyyden, kanadalaisuuden ja kanadanranskalaisuuden käsitteisiin. Lähestymistapani on käsitehistoriallinen, jolloin huomioni kiinnittyy käsitteiden käyttöön ja kontekstiin. Metodinani käytän politisointiretoriikkaa. Luen tekstejä poliittisina siirtoina laajemmassa kielellisessä kamppailussa siitä, mitä quebeciläisyys, kanadalaisuus tai kanadanranskalaisuus ovat, mitä ne ovat historiallisesti olleet ja mitä niiden tulisi tulevaisuudessa olla. Tällä tavalla avaan jääkiekkoilua käsittelevien tekstien kautta laajemman näkökulman Québecin ja Kanadan politiikan historiantulkintoihin
