FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Paul Brubaker September 30, 2019 973-518-2298 PATERSON PUBLIC SCHOOLS STUDENTS’ INVOLVEMENT IN DUAL ENROLLMENT MORE THAN DOUBLES Students earn college credits while in high school through partnerships with area colleges PATERSON – Enrollment among Paterson Public School District high school students in Dual Enrollment classes more than doubled during the past two school years, according to district data. The Dual Enrollment program allows students to earn college credit for classes they are taking during high school. This is made possible through partnerships with colleges and universities throughout northern New Jersey. During the 2017-2018 school year, 208 district high school students were enrolled in dual enrollment courses. That number climbed to 561 during the 2018-2019 school year, an increase of 170 percent. Meanwhile, the number of students who earned a grade of C or higher (the requirement to earn college credit) was 197 in 2017-2018. That number rose to 510 in 2018-2019, an increase of 159 percent. “This is the latest evidence that shows how more Paterson students are seizing opportunities for academic success as well as for gaining ground on their college degrees,” said Superintendent of Schools Eileen F. Shafer. “Dual Enrollment classes save students time in earning a college degree, and save their families money as students earn credit while they are still in high school.” PPS Dual Enrollment 2018-2019 PPS High School Dual Enrollment Course College # of # of Students Students Who Received Credit HARP Academy Dynamics of Health Care in Rutgers University 37 35 Society Medical Terminology Rutgers University 12 11 Anatomy & Physiology 1 Rutgers University 21 14 Anatomy & Physiology 2 Rutgers University 12 11 Intro to Clinical Research Rutgers University 12 10 Medical Math Rutgers University 12 7 Fundamentals of Health & Rutgers University 12 12 Wellness PANTHER Astronomy Passaic County Com. 11 10 Academy College Environmental Science Passaic County Com. 12 11 College STEM Pre-Calculus Seton Hall University 12 11 Calculus Seton Hall University 15 15 Intro to Psychology Seton Hall University 19 19 English 101 Passaic County Com. 12 12 College Chemistry Passaic County Com. 27 20 College Statistics Passaic County Com. 13 12 College SET Applications of Education William Paterson 10 10 Univ.
