un ARTS SERIES OPENS WITH JOHN HOUSEMAN
DA~N, Ohio, September 18, 1981 He has portrayed Professor Kingsfield
in the movie and television series "The Paper Chase." He has co-founded, with
Orson Welles, the Mercury Theatre, collaborated on the script of "Citizen
Kane," produced 18 feature films, created the Voice of America news and feature
programs during World War II, directed plays with stars like Mary Martin
and Hp.nry Fonda, acted in numerous movies and television shows, and won many
awards (including Emmyand Oscar).
Teacher, writer, lecturer, co-founder of the Acting Company, he is
currently a scholar of the Annenberg Center for the Study of the American
Experience.
He is John Houseman, the first artist on the 1981-82 University of Dayton
Arts Series. On Tuesday~ September 29, he will appear in un's Kennedy Union
Ballroom at 8 p.m.
Later this season, the Acting Company, which Houseman helped found in 1972,
will also perform in the Arts Series. The Acting Company, the official touring
arm of the nation's John F. Kennedy Center, will appear on Wednesday, January 27,
at 8 p.m. in Boll Theatre.
Three musical events are also featured in the 1981-82 University Arts Series.

The Audubon Quartet (Dennis Cleveland, violin; Sharon Smith, violin; Doris
Lederer, viola; and Thomas Shaw, violoncello) will appear on Monday, November
23, at 8 p.m. in Boll Theatre.
On Thursday, February 18, at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy Union Ballroom, a concert
will be presented by the a capella group The Scholars. The group is composed of Shelagh Molyneux, soprano; Nigel Dixon, countertenor; Robin Doveton, tenor;
Michael Leighton Jones, baritone; and David Van Asch, bass.
The UD Arts Series will conclude on Wednesday~ March 10, with an 8 p.m.
concert in Boll Theatre by Santiago Rodriguez, silver medalist in the 1981
Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Season ticket books for the UD Arts Series have been sold out to the
University Community. Individual admissions, however, are available for the
events to be held in the Kennedy Union Ballroom (Houseman and the Scholars).
Individual tickets for the John Houseman appearance cost $3 apiece and are on
sale in UD's Kennedy Union 231 or 307, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until
