The purpose of making this journal is to publish the results of research and advocacy that have been done by Perludem. Until now, Perludem has produced a total of 11 journal publications. The journal that has been developed by Perludem is still in the national scope. Most of the parties involved in the writing of this journal are Perludem researchers, civil society activists and election organizers. Perludem intends to develop the Election and Democracy Journal into a regional journal with more academic aspects. The Cabinet reshuffle announced by Najib in Putrajaya, among others, saw Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin dropped as deputy prime minister and education minister. Meanwhile, Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who was named rural and regional development deputy minister, described it as a huge trust which he would try his best to fulfill. "I will help the prime minister and the Barisan Nasional Government in its efforts to transform the rural areas, so they are not left behind when the country achieves its developed nation status by 2020," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan (pic ) has denied that the party has abandoned former president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, saying it was torn between qing (familial ties) and li (proper decorum). “It is the greatest strength and also weakness of the Chinese people,” said Ong in his speech during MCA annual general meeting on Sunday. Ong said on Oct 3, Dr Ling had openly called for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to step down, which shocked the party. “Tun Ling has contributed to the Chinese community for decades. Do you think we have no qing with him?” he said. MCA, said Ong, owed Najib li as prime ministers had traditionally opened all of MCA annual general meetings since the days of Tun Tan Siew Sin and was a political partner since independence. Najib was also present to open this year’s meeting before rushing to Jakarta for a discussion with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in the afternoon. Ong pointed out that Najib was a democratically elected Prime Minister and deserved respect and support. Media ownership is understood to be affecting objectivity in media coverage, given its influence on the sources to be used, as well as how issues are portrayed. This content analysis study used a census sample of the first 14 days after its tabling. To differentiate the coverage between these two mainstream news provider, the researcher studied the sources used by both news providers, frames utilized in the coverage of the budget using Semetko and Valkenberg’s (2000) generic news frame, as well as the news slants that are apparent in both news providers’ reporting of the budget as basis for comparison.     Past, Present and Future: The 30th Anniversary of the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur Greetings from the Director The Japan Foundation was established in 1972 with the main goal of cultivating friendship and ties between Japan and the world through culture, language, and dialogue. The Kuala Lumpur ofice known as The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur Liaison Ofice was established at Wisma Nusantara, off Jalan P. Ramlee on 3 October 1989 as the third liaison ofice in SEA countries, following Jakarta and Bangkok. The liaison ofice was upgraded to Japan Cultural Centre Kuala Lumpur with Prince Takamado attending the opening ceremony on 14 February 1992. Japanese Language Centre Kuala Lumpur was then opened at Wisma Nusantara on 20 April 1995. In July 1998, the ofice moved to Menara Citibank, Jalan Ampang and then once more to our current ofice in Northpoint, Mid-Valley in September 2008. Since the establishment, the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) has been working on various projects such as introducing Japanese arts and culture to Malaysia and vice versa. JFKL has also closely worked with the Ministry of Education to form a solid foundation of Japanese Language Education especially in Malaysian secondary schools and conducted various seminars and trainings for local Japanese teachers. We have also been supporting Japanese studies and promoting dialogues on common international issues. The past 30 years have deinitely been a long yet memorable journey in bringing the cultures of the two countries together. The cultural exchange with Malaysia has become more signiicant and crucial as Japan heads towards a multi-cultural society and there is a lot to learn from Malaysia.

Food is understood as belonging to foodways which means the integration of culinary smells, ingredients, sights, and landscapes, sounds, eating practices, and farming traditions of people or a region (Timonthy & Ron, 2013; van Westering, 1999). For that reason by acknowledging food, tradition and living traditions are recognized the symbolism and social differences between cultures. This cultural element is applicable to events, and it has been used in forms of food festivals.

Timbalan Menteri Pendidikan [Tuan Chong Sin Woon]: Terima kasih Tuan Yang di-Pertua, saya ingin mengambil kesempatan ini untuk mengucapkan tahniah kepada Yang Berhormat Budiman kerana menang dalam Pilihan Raya Kecil Sungai Besar tempoh hari. [Tepuk] Tuan Yang di-Pertua, untuk makluman Yang Berhormat, prestasi semasa literasi Bahasa Inggeris bagi murid Tahun 3 sehingga 31 Mei 2016 adalah berdasarkan saringan 1 LINUS 2.0/2016. Dapatan daripada saringan tersebut menunjukkan bahawa sekolah-sekolah luar bandar telah mencapai penguasaan 83.37% iaitu menguasai Konstruk 1 hingga 12. Manakala bagi sekolah bandar pula, tahap penguasaan literasi Bahasa Inggeris adalah 89.19%. Sungguhpun masih terdapat jurang pencapaian antara sekolah bandar dan luar bandar, namun Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia terus komited untuk meningkatkan kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris dalam kalangan murid seperti yang dihasratkan dalam Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia 2013-2025.
