It is with great pleasure I report on some of the season highlights. The introduction of the NDCA Women’s Bash was a big success. Thank you to the four clubs who took part in the inaugural season – Hamilton-Wickham, Newcastle City, Waratah-Mayfield and Wests. These four clubs have now set a great platform to build future growth in this competition. Newcastle City and Waratah were the standout teams in season one and deservedly qualified for the final. Newcastle City posted a strong score of 4/114 and had a good win in the final. Youthful Newcastle City spinner Sienna Eve was named player of the final taking 3 wickets for 4 runs. Newcastle City and Waratah contributed the majority of players to the Newcastle team in the inaugural Womens Regional Bash. In an 8 team NSW Country competition the Newcastle squad was well led by Kirsten Smith. The team had a good victory over Central Coast in round 1 before losing to the eventual premiers Coffs Coast in a semi-final at the SCG. Newcastle has a talented squad of womens cricketers and a dedicated coach in Steve Taylor. I am sure they can go even further next season. Merewether won 2019-20 club championship and took out the Robert Holland trophy. This was Merewether’s first club championship since 2014-15 but they have been runners-up in all seasons since then, a testament to the clubs ability both on and off the field. Newcastle City Council continued its sponsorship of the NDCA T20 competition. Thank you to the City of Newcastle for their support and in particular Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes and General Manager Jeremy Bath. NCC Summer Bash 3 was a showpiece for Newcastle cricket with some brilliant games of T20 cricket on display. The introduction 2 new teams from Maitland (Magic and Flood) created added interest in the competition. Congratulations to the Hamilton Sabres who won their third NDCA 1st grade T20 competition with a convincing victory over the Belmont Whips in the final. Jason Keelan with 60no was named player of the final. Hamilton showed their dominance in limited overs cricket by also winning the Locker Cup. At representative level Newcastle cricket dominated the NSW Country male competitions. Newcastle won the NSW Country male championships with a dominant performance in the final against Greater Illawarra. Standout performers for Newcastle were player of the final Nathan Price who scored a brilliant century and captain Nick Foster who took five wickets with his off- spinners. The Lake Mac Attack won the Regional T20 Bash under lights at the SCG. After defeating Coffs Coast in the semis, the Lake Mac Attack defeated ACT Aces in a thrilling final that came down to the final over. Belmont opening bowler Daniel Bailey took an incredible 5 for 17 to be a deserved player of the final. Newcastle was invited to play the Canberra Comets in a preliminary fixture to the Australian v Sri Lanka international match at Manuka Oval. In a T20 match of the highest order played on an outstanding ground, Newcastle fell 4 runs short in a tough 242 run chase. Jeff Goninan’s century was the one of the best innings I have seen by a Newcastle player.

  • Antigua and Barbuda an Annotated Critical Bibliography
Antigua and Barbuda an annotated critical bibliography by Riva Berleant-Schiller and Susan Lowes, with Milton Benjamin Volume 182 of the World Bibliographical Series 1995 Clio Press ABC Clio, Ltd. (Oxford, England; Santa Barbara, California; Denver, Colorado) Abstract: Antigua and Barbuda, two islands of Leeward Island group in the eastern Caribbean, together make up a single independent state. The union is an uneasy one, for their relationship has always been ambiguous and their differences in history and economy greater than their similarities. Barbuda was forced unwillingly into the union and it is fair to say that Barbudan fears of subordination and exploitation under an Antiguan central government have been realized. Barbuda is a flat, dry limestone island. Its economy was never dominated by plantation agriculture. Instead, its inhabitants raised food and livestock for their own use and for provisioning the Antigua plantations of the island's lessees, the Codrington family. After the end of slavery, Barbudans resisted attempts to introduce commercial agriculture and stock-rearing on the island. They maintained a subsistence and small cash economy based on shifting cultivation, fishing, livestock, and charcoal-making, and carried it out under a commons system that gave equal rights to land to all Barbudans. Antigua, by contrast, was dominated by a sugar plantation economy that persisted after slave emancipation into the twentieth century. Its economy and goals are now shaped by the kind of high-impact tourism development that includes gambling casinos and luxury hotels. The Antiguan government values Barbuda primarily for its sparsely populated lands and comparatively empty beaches. This bibliography is the only comprehensive reference book available for locating information about Antigua and Barbuda.
