Parks and Playgrounds

Candie Gardens, is a park with beautiful views over the harbour and is home to the Guernsey Museum. Café Victoria serves light lunches and snacks and the park is laid out with paved walkways suitable for strollers as well as a beautiful grassy area for a picnic. Saumarez Park in the parish of Castel is the biggest park in Guernsey. The main playground is currently open but is in need of redevelopment which is due to start soon. There are lovely paved paths for a nice stroller walk, learning to ride a bike and scooting. In the middle of the park is a huge green field for running around and ball sports plus a duck pond where young children love to watch the ducks and birds. The café is the ideal place to enjoy a light lunch or for drinks and ice cream for the children on a hot day. Delancey Park in St Sampson has a children’s play area, open field cricket pitch, small skateboard ramp and stroller-friendly walkways surrounding the park for an easy walk.

Beau Sejour in St Peter Port is equipped with a playground situated behind the leisure centre. The playground is suitable for children under the age of 8 and next door is a huge open grass area ideally suited for ball sports. The Parks Café and Bar sells refreshments. Le Friquet Garden Centre in Castel has an outside and soft inside play area for children under the age of 8. Enjoy a lovely tea or light lunch at Café des Amis (open every day) or something Italian at Terrazzo del Giardano (open Friday, Saturday & Sunday). Les Amarreurs in Vale has a playground with a safety surface and is convenient when visiting Les Amarreurs Bay as well.

Styx Community Centre has a small playground which is open for use by those living in the Western Parishes.

Annual Shows & Carnivals

Summer in particular is very busy in Guernsey with lots to do. Below is a list of events which might be useful for keeping the children entertained. Most take place in the Summer months but keep an eye on the Guernsey Press to see what is going on.

West Show Celebrating 100 years, agricultural and horticultural traditions are on show on Guernsey's west coast, as well as an array of local costume. There is also usually a small funfair. Takes places over 2 days in August

North Show Lots of family entertainment, including all of the traditional agricultural, horticultural and craft categories.

This popular annual event will include a variety of charity stalls, crown and anchor, not forgetting the donkey races!

Motorsports Hill climbs, car sprints, autocross and sand racing events are held throughout the year at various locations.

Harbour Carnival Enjoy a carnival atmosphere with street entertainers, a man powered flight competition and a duck race all held around St Peter Port Harbour in early August.

Town Carnival Oodles of family fun with clowns, face painters, musicians and much more in St Peter Port's streets. Town carnival usually takes place in July, during the first week of the States’ Schools summer holiday.

Seafront Sundays Enjoy the atmosphere as the St Peter Port Seafront is closed off for various events and activities

Saturday concerts in Market Square A series of musical concerts and dance performed in the heart of St Peter Port

Castle Nights Music and entertainment at Castle.Cornet. Entry. 6pm-9pm Friday nights in Summer. See the Guernsey Press for further information.

Rocquaine Regatta A full day of entertainment, activities and fun, on stage, on the beach and in the sea. There are activities suitable for all ages. Usually held at the beginning of August.

Torteval Scarecrow Festival This very popular event takes place in August. Enjoy typical summer fete activities and follow the trail through a beautiful area of the south west of Guernsey to see the scarecrows..
