Received: 29 August 2019; Accepted: 5 November 2019; Published: 7 November 2019 Abstract: Public bike share (PBS) systems are meant to be a sustainable urban mobility solution in areas where different travel options and the practice of active transport modes can diminish the need on the vehicle and decrease greenhouse gas emission. Although PBS systems have been included in transportation plans in the last decades experiencing an important development and growth, it is crucial to know the main enablers and barriers that PBS systems are facing to reach their goals. In this paper, first, sentiment analysis techniques are applied to user generated content (UGC) in social media comments (Facebook, Twitter and TripAdvisor) to identify these enablers and barriers. This analysis provides a set of explanatory variables that are combined with data from official statistics and the PBS observatory in Spain. As a result, a statistical model that assesses the connection between PBS use and certain characteristics of the PBS systems, utilizing sociodemographic, climate, and positive and negative opinion data extracted from social media is developed. -

But that's were the similarities end. With such a diverse range of offers, differences in quality have to be expected. This becomes obvious as soon as we look at the number of stations where bikes can be picked up. This ranges from just a single station in the case of BUGA in Aveiro, Portugal, to 1,751 in the case of Vélib' in Paris. France's capital also holds the record for the number of bicycles: 23,900. Compared to second-place Barclay's Cycle Hire in London with its 558 stations and 9,200 bicycles, we can see just how impressive this record is. And the winner is: France But still, Paris, which is certainly setting an example for the rest of the world, only received a "Good" rating and came second in this European comparison. The capital city was nipped at the post by fellow countryman vélo'v in Lyon, the only scheme to receive a "Very good" rating. 343 stations with 4,000 bicycles, available to anyone all year round, linked to local public transport, easy and free registration, fully automated bicycle pick-up and return at any station, information provided in several languages and accessible in many different ways - that's pretty close to the perfect bike-to-go system. -

JCDecaux: 300 million self-service bicycle rentals worldwide Paris, 11 April, 2013 - JCDecaux SA (Euronext Paris: DEC), the number one outdoor advertising company worldwide and No.1 in self-service bicycle hire schemes, announces that its self-service bicycles have been rented a total of 300 million times since they were first made available in different schemes around the world. An average of 2 bicycles were rented every second in 2012. After ten years’ international experience, the 46,536 bicycles provided by JCDecaux for self-service rental and their 3,882 docking stations have been selected by 66 cities in 10 different countries in Europe and Asia-Pacific, attracting a total of nearly 550,000 subscribers around the world. JCDecaux pioneered this form of individual public transport, installing its first bicycles in Vienna (Austria) in 2003. Since then, the group’s self-service bicycle rental schemes, which are in most cases part of the street furniture provided to cities that grant JCDecaux advertising rights, have been updated in line with users’ expectations (e.g. bicycles with stronger baskets, 3- or 7-speed gears, more comfortable saddles, etc.) and have now achieved this record-breaking number of rentals. Since 2010, all users around the world have been able to access the AllBikesNow service, a free application that can be downloaded to iPhone and Android devices, providing subscribers with access to a wealth of information about the availability of bicycles, the location of docking stations, and updated account details. These 300 million rentals reflect the growing enthusiasm of city-dwellers for eco- friendly means of transport, a trend confirmed by the average rental growth rate between 2012 and 2011 of 9% in France and 4% in other countries, representing an overall increase of 7%. -

More specifically, it aims to achieve a balanced network of pick-up and drop-off stations in urban areas with the help of the users, thus reducing the dedicated management trucks that redistribute bikes among stations. The proposal aims to persuade users to choose different routes from the shortest route between a start and an end location. This persuasion is carried out when it is not possible to park the bike in the desired station due to the lack of parking slots, or when the user is highly influenceable. -

JCDecaux's self-service bicycles surpass the landmark of 500 million rentals worldwide Paris, 14 January 2016 – JCDecaux SA (Euronext Paris: DEC), the number one outdoor advertising company worldwide and number one in self-service bicycle hire schemes, announces that its self-service bikes have now been hired more than 500 million times worldwide since the launch of the schemes. With more than 12 years of international experience and 670,000 long-term subscribers, JCDecaux's 52,000 bicycles and 4,300 stations are located in 70 cities across 13 countries throughout Europe and Asia-Pacific and have covered more than a billion kilometres worldwide. As a pioneer in soft mobility with the installation of the first bicycles in Vienna (Austria) in 2003, JCDecaux has developed and advanced its self-service bicycle systems to reach record numbers of hires, whilst maintaining a positive relationship with users. In October 2015, the Customer Relations Department of Cyclocity – JCDecaux's bicycle hire service – won the Customer Service of the Year award for 2016 in the "Individual Transport" category, a testament to an effective organisation and the excellence of its services. Building on this success, JCDecaux, which strives to anticipate the needs of cities and their inhabitants, continues to be innovative.
