THE CAVALIERS ON LA MEGA 87.7 FM: Veteran broadcaster Rafael Hernández-Brito, known as Rafa "El Alcalde" (“The Mayor”), returns for his sixth season of bringing his high-energy play-by-play style to each of his Cleveland Cavaliers broadcasts. Prior to joining the Cavs, Rafa was the Spanish voice of Brooklyn Nets games for the franchise’s first two seasons. He also was the voice of the New Jersey Nets from 1997 to 2001 and called the action for St. John’s University men’s basketball during that same period. In 2018, Rafa became the first Spanish voice of the Cleveland Browns.

Nationally, his broadcasting experience includes eight years as the voice of NFL football for Spanish broadcasts of Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, the playoffs and Superbowl on Univision from 2005 to 2013. Hernández-Brito, who has worked 11 Super Bowls, was also the Spanish play-by-play voice of the Miami Dolphins and has handled the play-by-play for Major League Baseball, boxing and UFC. Rafa additionally covered the Soccer World Cups from 1998 to 2014. With the 2015 NBA Finals, he became the first broadcaster in the United States to call the Finals of all 3 major sports in Spanish. Rafa has been the Public Address Announcer and voice of legendary Azteca Stadium in Mexico City for NFL Mexico games since 2016. In March of 2017, he became the first broadcaster to call the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four in Spanish for Westwood One.

Rafa finished high school at Locust Valley, N.Y. He went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering at Boston University, followed by a successful run working for Coors Brewing Co., where his buoyant personality made him a natural in sales and marketing. Nonetheless, he chose to follow his passion for sports and broadcasting. Hernández-Brito served as sports director at Univision Radio from 2005 to 2013, where he was also the host/ringleader of “Locura Deportiva”, Univision Radio’s most successful sports program, presiding over candid, colorful, often comical discussions on the topics of the day as “El Alcalde” (“The Mayor”). He was also the creator and longtime host of “El Garaje de AutoZone,” a Saturday morning automotive show perhaps best described as a Spanish-language version of the immensely popular NPR program “Car Talk."

WALL OF HONOR INDUCTION TO TAKE PLACE AT NOVEMBER 17TH GAME: Five very special individuals who played core roles in the early years of the Cleveland Cavaliers will have their franchise legacies further recognized and honored when they are inducted into the brand-new Cavaliers Wall of Honor at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Wayne Embry, Bill Fitch, the late John Johnson, and the late John “Hot Rod” Williams will comprise the inaugural class of the Wall of Honor. The official induction ceremony will take place at the Cavs vs. Philadelphia game on Sunday, November 17th.

Making its debut for the Cavs 50th season in 2019-20, the Wall of Honor program was created to recognize deserving former members of the franchise and serve as a special, permanent way to honor those who have played such a distinguished, pivotal role in Cavs history.

The Wall of Honor will reside prominently in the new North Atrium area of the FieldHouse. The large 12’x44’ wall will feature a mosaic of custom designed tiles that represent each honoree. Each inductee will have two silver tiles: one engraved with their name, photo, years with the organization, and their jersey number or role with the team; the other with their name, list of major accomplishments and jersey number/role.

The Wall will also include tiles for the eight individuals who have previously had their jerseys retired by the Cavs: Austin Carr, Brad Daugherty, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Larry Nance Sr., Mark Price, Bobby “Bingo” Smith, and (Cavaliers Hall of Fame radio broadcaster for 39 seasons). The victory marks the Charge’s first opening win since a 102-91 victory over the Erie BayHawks on November 22, 2013.
