  • MEDIA CLIPS Columbus Blue Jackets at Boston Bruins January 2, 2020
MEDIA CLIPS Columbus Blue Jackets at Boston Bruins January 2, 2020 Columbus Blue Jackets Columbus Blue Jackets’ troubles in overtime tied to penalties By Jacob Myers – The Columbus Dispatch – December 31, 2019 Back in October when the Blue Jackets lost two games in overtime on back-to-back nights, John Tortorella didn’t hesitate to mention the importance of those additional points at the end of seasons when playoff spots are hanging in the balance. More than two months later, the Jackets have posted a 1-4 record in games decided in overtime or a shootout in December, prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Florida Panthers, while sitting six points out of the final wild card spot. In each of those overtime or shootout losses, the Jackets either lost on the penalty kill or had to kill one off. Three-on-three overtime can be a crapshoot, with its fast-paced nature and high frequency of odd-man rushes. But the improvement in those extra periods — and avoiding them entirely — starts with cutting out unnecessary penalties that have limited the Jackets’ ability to sustain any offense. "It's not so much getting back in the race, it's about winning the next game," Tortorella said Tuesday after morning skate. "It's about giving yourself a chance to win the game and not lose sitting in the box and taking more than two or three (penalties) during a game. Your whole bench is disrupted. It's hard to do." Overall, the Jackets are one of the least-penalized teams in the league.

  • Annual Report Our Mission
USA Hockey ANNUAL REPORT OUR MISSION USA Hockey provides THE FOUNDATION for the sport of ice hockey in America; helps young people BECOME LEADERS, even Olympic heroes; and CONNECTS THE GAME at every level while promoting a lifelong LOVE OF THE SPORT. Key Partners in Hockey A YEAR OF MUCH ACCOMPLISHMENT The Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games treat us to magical moments that inspire our nation and influence increased participation in our sport. And this year was no different in Sochi, Ron DeGregorio President Russia, for the 2014 Games. We won’t soon forget the grand celebration of our Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, shown nationwide on NBC, after a riveting 1-0 win over host Russia in the gold-medal game. Or the theatrics of T.J. Oshie scoring four times in a shootout, including the decisive goal in the eighth round, that led to a preliminary-round victory over Russia in one of the most anticipated men’s games in Olympic Dave Ogrean history. Executive Director And while we fell short of earning gold medals in men’s and women’s hockey, the performance of EXECUTIVE our teams will no doubt inspire more people of all ages to play our great game. COMMITTEE We’re well positioned to handle the influx of those new players thanks to the continued efforts 2013-14 across all areas of our organization. President 1 Safety is at the top of our priority list each and every day and we continued this year to devote Ron DeGregorio resources to research and education that affect both on- and off-ice safety.

DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.
