JEBEL SAGHRO AND THE HIGH ATLAS WITH ITS BERBER HABITANTS

Crossing the High Atlas from Marrakech to the Drâa Valley we stop for barbecue at the Oasis Fint. In Tinzouline we go to see engravings from ancient times and enter the rural life to learn handicraft. An off-road tour through Jebel Sahro leads us through pristine mountains until we reach the Gorge of Todra and later again off-road the Gorge of Dades. The vibrant life of Marrakech will be the final highlight of this travel.

DURATION 12 days

1. Day – MARRAKECH

1 hour Arrival at the airport – we bring you to an extraordinary and beautiful eco-lodge off site Marrakech to make your start of the journey as smooth and comfortable as possible. Enjoy the farm with field crops and a swimming pool near to Ourika Valley. http://quaryati.com/

2. Day – Telouet – AIT BENHADDOU

3 ½ hours The High Atlas with its Glaoui-Kasbahs has a moving past. The ancient ruins of the Berber kingdom – which ruled the area for centuries before destroyed by European nations – telling stories about the history of the natives. Over-night stay in a charming Kasbah-Hotel in Ait Benhaddou. http://www.riad-caravane.com/

3. Day – OASIS FINT – TAMNOUGALT – N’KOB

3 hours Passing Ouarzazate we make a stop-over in Oasis Fint having a barbecue. Nearby we can marvel at thousands of years old engravings left by our ancestors in another type of environs. In the Drâa Valley we visit the Kasbah Tamnougalt, a monument of the Berber history and a way to enter into the life of the former habitants. 4. + 5. Day – N’KOB – AIT OUAZIK – JEBEL SAGHRO

1 hour Today we discover the surroundings of N’Kob: nearby we can find more of ancient engravings of our ancestors at Ait Ouazik. The amazing, breathtaking landscape of Jebel Saghro is our native country for the following days. Donkeys carry our luggage, the guide with his crew take care of our well-being. Two over-night stays in tents.

6. Day – TINGHIR – TODRA GORGE

2 ½ hours After our hiking trip our way leads now partially off-road to Tinghir and the Todra Gorge where we enjoy the fresh air of the river valley with a pleasant over-night stay in a Kasbah hotel. http://www.darayour.com/anglais/acceuil.php

7. Day – MSEMRIR – AGOUDAL – DADES GORGE

5 hours Heading to the Dades Gorge we connect the two river valleys. Near Agoudal we visit a Berber family and hike to a stalactite cave. Later we cross again partially off-raod the gorge to our Kasbah hotel for an extraordinary charming over-night stay. http://www.chezpierre.org

8. Day – DADES GORGE – BOUTAGHRAR – KELAA M’GOUNA – OUARZAZATE

2 ½ hours Following the river valley with its amazing stone formations we take a branch-off traversing a plateau to the Rose Valley. On our route we visit the Berber nomads living in caves having a cup of tea with them. Later we drive on through the Rose Valley, passing the palmeraie of Skoura to Ouarzazate where we stay over-night in a comfortable and beautiful Kasbah hotel. http://www.riadbouchedor.com

9. - 11. Day – MARRAKECH

4 hours In the vibrant, oriental city of Marrakech we spend our last days with an exciting program: Sightseeing of the Koutoubia mosque, the Saadian Tombs and the Majorelle Gardens. Highlight is the Medina with its colorful daily life and the market place „Djema el Fna” where bargainers, storytellers, water-sellers and snake charmers get together. 12. DAY – FLIGHT BACK HOME FROM MARRAKECH

Transfer back to the Airport – It is time to say good-bye to our hosts and take our flights back home.
