The report was commissioned from MOLA by Convoys Investment S.A.R.L.. Following the recommendations of the archaeological consultant CgMs in consultation with the London Borough of Lewisham and English Heritage, 52 evaluation trenches were excavated. Boreholes and trial pits excavated by a geotechnical contractor were also monitored. The results of the field evaluation have helped to refine the initial assessment of the archaeological potential of the site. Three main areas have been identified as particularly important: the area of the Great Dock near the east boundary of the site; the footprint of the Grade II listed Olympia building where the evaluation demonstrated that stone slipways survive; and the area of the early 16th century Tudor storehouse, a scheduled ancient monument. Other structures identified during the evaluation included: the large mast pond and the small mast pond in the west of the site; the dockyard basin; multiphase buildings; the remains of the 18th century dockyard wall; and other slipways.

    Plan for Springs The population per square mile in Springs is approximately two to six times higher than any other Planning Area1 in East Hampton. Similarly, the number of housing units per square mile in Springs is 1.6 to 2 times higher than all the other Planning Areas. Springs has the lowest number of seasonal homes of all the Planning Areas. Furthermore, Springs contains the largest number of vacant single and separate lots one half acre or less in size of any East Hampton Planning Area. The total potential build-out of Springs is approximately the same as the East Hampton Planning Area, which is approximately three times the area of Springs. Except for Gardiner’s Island, there is no land zoned for A5 Residence and there is little A3 and A2 zoning compared to the other hamlets. Most of the land in Springs was divided during the time immediately following World War II or earlier, into small suburban and urban lots sizes. A few large blocks of undivided land remain today including the woodlands between Red Dirt Road and Accabonac Harbor (including the Town protected Jacob Farm property); the woodlands between Gardiner’s Bay and Springs Fireplace Road (including the Blue Bay Girl Scout Camp); the wetlands and meadows surrounding Accabonac Harbor; the woodlands between Springs Fireplace Rd., Abrahams Path and Accabonac Road.; and a few farm remnants. These areas contribute greatly to the area’s biological diversity by supporting species that would otherwise be absent from such a densely developed residential area. The smaller islands of woodland vegetation located near these large blocks also helps to protect species diversity.

Most of these articles were initially written and published, then run again later with changes and additions made. I compiled these articles from the Allen American on microfilm at the Allen Public Library and from the Allen Leader newspapers provided by Mike Williams. Then, I typed them into the computer and indexed them in 2006-07. Porter, the U.S. Congressman, first elected in 1808 to represent western New York, were leading advocates of a war of conquest against the British over Canada. Tompkins was particularly interested in recruiting and training a state militia and opening and equipping state arsenals in preparation for such a war. Normally, militiamen were obligated only for three months of duty during the War of 1812, although if the President requested, the period could be extended to a maximum of six months. When the militia was called into service by the governor or his officers, it was paid by the state. When called by the President or an officer of the U.S. Army, it was paid by the U.S. Treasury. In 1808, the United States Congress took the first steps toward federalizing state militias by appropriating $200,000 – a hopelessly inadequate sum – to arm and train citizen soldiers needed to supplement the nation’s tiny standing army.

    THE WAR OF 1812 MAGAZINE ISSUE 26 December 2016 Appendix I War of 1812 Chronology Compiled by Ralph Eshelman and Donald Hickey Introduction This War of 1812 Chronology includes all the major events related to the conflict beginning with the 1797 Jay Treaty of amity, commerce, and navigation between the United Kingdom and the United States of America and ending with the United States, Weas and Kickapoos signing of a peace treaty at Fort Harrison, Indiana, June 4, 1816. While the chronology includes items such as treaties, embargos and political events, the focus is on military engagements, both land and sea. It is believed this chronology is the most holistic inventory of War of 1812 military engagements ever assembled into a chronological listing. Don Hickey, in his War of 1812 Chronology, comments that chronologies are marred by errors partly because they draw on faulty sources and because secondary and even primary sources are not always dependable.1 For example, opposing commanders might give different dates for a military action, and occasionally the same commander might even present conflicting data. Jerry Roberts in his book on the British raid on Essex, Connecticut, points out that in a copy of Captain Coot’s report in the Admiralty and Secretariat Papers the date given for the raid is off by one day.2 Similarly, during the bombardment of Fort McHenry a British bomb vessel's log entry date is off by one day.3 Hickey points out that reports compiled by officers at sea or in remote parts of the theaters of war seem to be especially prone to ambiguity and error.

ExEcuTivE SuMMARy The Mohawk Valley Battlefield Ethnography Project was designed to document the relationships between contemporary Indian peoples and the events that occurred in central New York during the mid to late eighteenth century. The particular focus was Fort Stanwix, located near the Oneida Carry, which linked the Mohawk and St. Lawrence Rivers via Wood Creek, and the Oriskany Battlefield. Because of its strategic location, Fort Stanwix was the site of several critical treaties between the British and the Iroquois and, following the American Revolution, between the latter and the United States. This region was the homeland of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy whose neutrality or military support was desired by both the British and the rebels during the Revolution. The Battle of Oriskany, 6 August 1777, occurred as the Tryon County militia, aided by Oneida warriors, was marching to relieve the British siege of Ft.
