Payroll/ Technician

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of Fiscal Services, perform technical duties related to district certificated and classified payroll and fringe benefits; provide information and assure compliance of individual and collective payroll and benefits; prepare and process payrolls and benefits deductions and payments.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: • Perform responsible and technical duties related to district payrolls and fringe benefits; provide information and assure compliance of individual and collective payroll and benefits coverage’s, including medical, vision and dental. E • Prepare and process classified, certificated management, hourly/daily and supplemental payrolls; prepare payroll adjustments. E • Assure proper deduction of payroll taxes and deposit accordingly; prepare quarterly reports, insurance tax reports and workers compensation reports. E • Review personnel Notices of Assignment to assure compliance with current rules, regulations and contract requirements; assist in the resolution of issues, conflicts or errors. E • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports, including payroll, vacation and leave records, taxes, and other benefit issues. E • Process through HRS enrollment and adjustments related to payroll and benefits programs such as , retirement plans, deductions and electronic fund transfers; verify and research issues related to monthly deductions, billings and payment processing; coordinate open enrollment. E • Operate office equipment including a computer terminal, typewriter, copier and calculator. E • Assist in formulating policies and procedures relating to the operations and services of the payroll area. • Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF: • Methods and practices of payroll record-keeping. • Principles of payroll, including . • Voluntary deductions and fringe benefits. • Report writing. • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. • Computer assisted and payroll systems. • Payroll policies and procedures. • Preparation, maintenance, verification and processing of payroll records. • Interpersonal skills, using tact, patience and courtesy. • District organization, operations, policies and objectives. • Applicable sections of State Code and other applicable laws. • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.

ABILITY TO: • Perform responsible and technical duties related to district payroll and fringe benefits. • Provide information and assure compliance of individual and collective payroll and benefits. • Prepare and process payrolls and benefits deductions and payments. • Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports. • Establish and maintain and effective working relationships with others. • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. • Work independently with little direction. • Work confidentially with discretion. • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Type at an acceptable rate of speed. • Meet schedules and timelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in business, accounting, payroll, taxes and related areas and three years increasingly responsible payroll and benefits experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: • Indoor office environment.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES/DEMANDS: • Dexterity of hands and fingers to enter data into a computer. • Sitting for extended periods of time.

SALARY/HOURS: • Range 22 $3,850.99 - $4,680.16 (monthly) **Salary Pending Board Approval • 12 months, (8) eight hours per day.
