RECOMMENDATIONS:·

A. That the City Council designate the unnumbered location situated one sidewalk square southerly of and between numbered locations 30L and 311 as shown on Sheet 20 of Plan D-13788 for the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the installation of the name of Donald Sutherland at 7024 Hollywood Boulevard.

B. Inform the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce of the Council's action on this matter.

C. That this report be adopted prior to the date of the ceremony on January 26, 2011.

FISCAL IMP ACT STATEMENT:

No General Fund Impact. All cost paid by permittee.

1. Unnumbered communication dated December 22, 2010, from the Hollywood Historic Trust of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, biographical infom1ation and excerpts from the minutes of the Chamber's meeting with recommendations. City Council -2- C. D. No. 13

DISCUSSION:

The Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name of Donald Sutherland. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26,2010 at 11:30 a.m.

The communicant's request is in accordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment of the required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 3rd Floor, Counter 23".

The Walle of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Charnber of Commerce has approved the below listed name for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

DONALD SUTHERLAND (Category -MOTION PICTURES) Requested star location to be 7024 Hollywood Blvd., south side of the street adjacent to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The star for DONALD SUTHERLAND will be placed in the second row next to the usual row closest to the building next to KIEFER SUTHERLAND and a blank square in the second row. The star will also be located next to a star located in the original row and previously dedicated to FRIZ FRELENG which is numbered (30L) to the east and PATTI LABELLE which is numbered (311) and faces the west. According to sheet #20 plan D-13788, DONALD SUTHERLAND'S star has no designated number. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Thank you for your cooperation in this request. I look forward to a response from your office soon.

DONALD SUTHERLAND

Donald Sutherland's career as an actor encompasses nearly, if not more than, a hundred and thirty films.

These include such classics as Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen; Robert Altman's MASH; Alan J. Pakula's Klute, opposite his great and good friend, Jane Fonda; Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now, with Julie Christie; John Schlesinger's The Day of the Locust; Bernardo Bertolucci's 1900; Federico Fellini's Fellini's Casanova; Robert Redford's Ordinary People; 's JFK; Claude Chabrol's Les Liens du Sang; Werner Herzog's Grito de Piedra; and as Oddball in Brian Hutton's Kelly's Heroes with Clint Eastwood, who later directed him in Space Cowboys.

Mr. Sutherland's many other films include Paul Mazursky's Alex in Wander/and; Philip Kaufman's Invasion of the Body Snatchers; John Landis' National Lampoon's Animal House; Bud Yorkin's Start the Revolution Without Me; Ron Howard's Backdraft; John Sturges' The Eagle Has Landed, with and ; Richard Marquand's Eye of the Needle; Richard Pearce's Threshold; Euzhan Paley's A Dry White Season; Fred Schepisi's Six Degrees of Separation; 's Disclosure; Joel Schumacher's A Time to Kill; Robert Towne's Without Limits; F. He will shortly be seen starring in Mary McGuckian's The Man on the Train, with U2's Larry Mullen, Jr; in Simon West's The Mechanic, with Jason Statham and Ben Foster; in Seth Gordon's Horrible Bosses, as Colin Farrell's father; and in the Roman epic adventure The Eagle, opposite Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell for director Kevin Macdonald, which Focus Features releases nationwide on Friday, February 11th, 2011.

Mr. Sutherland won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for his performance in Chris Gerolmo's Citizen X, and won a second Golden Globe Award for his performance as Clark Clifford in John Frankenheimer's Path to War.

On stage, he was Humbert Humbert in Edward Albee's adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson; as Znorko in his son Roeg's translation of Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's acclaimed Enigma Variations at the Mark Taper; and he starred with Justin Kirk, Julianna Margulies, and The Eagle's Denis O'Hare in Daniel Sullivan's sold­ out, critically acclaimed Lincoln Center Theater production of Jon Robin Baitz' Ten Unknowns, for which he received an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Best Actor.

With his writing partner, Brad Peyton, he is currently producing an animated television series for the CBC of Pirate's Passage, adapted from the Governor General's Award-winning novel by William Gilkerson.

Mr. Sutherland was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1978; and an Officier de I'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France in 1983.

Walk of Fame: Chairman John Pavlik recommended the following stars for inclusion into the Hollywood Wall< of Fame.

MOTION PICTURES: Penelope Cruz, Bruce Dem, Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, , The Muppets, Kenny Ortega, , Ridley Scott, Sissy Spacek, Donald Sutherland and Reese Witherspoon.

TELEVISION: Danny DeVito, Tina Fey, Simon Fuller, Neil Patrick Harris, John Langley, Ed O'Neill, John Wells, and Oprah Winfrey.

RECORDING: Melissa Etheridge, Los Tigres Del Norte, Rascal Platts, Go-Go's, Slash, Willi. Am, and Bebe & Cece Winans. Posthumous: Buddy Holly and Louis Prima
