Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street- Walk of Fame Additional Name in Terrazzo Sidewalk­ SISSY SPACEK

RECOMMENDATIONS:

A. That the City Council designate the unnumbered location situated one sidewalk square southerly of and between numbered locations 23J and 24j as shown on Sheet 18 of Plan D-13788 for the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the installation of the name of Sissy Spacek at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard.

B. Inform the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce of the Council's action on this matter.

C. That this report be adopted prior to the date of the ceremony on August 1, 2011.

FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT:

No General Fund Impact. All cost paid by permittee.

DISCUSSION:

The Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name of Sissy Spacek. The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:30 a.m.

The communicant's request is in accordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment of the required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 3rd Floor, Counter 23".

The Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollyvvood Chamber of Commerce has approved the belm·v listed name for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

SISSY SPACEK- (Category -MOTION PICTURES) Requested star location to be 6834 Hollywood Blvd., south side of the street next to the El Capitan Theatre. The star for SISSY SPACEK will be located in the second row next to the star of TINKERBELL which is to the east and a square which has no number. The stars nearest to SPACEK'S in the original row are DANNY KAYE (23J) to the East and STEVE MCQUEEN (24j) to the West. According to sheet #18 plan 13788, SISSY SPACEK'S star has no designated number. The ceremony is scheduled for MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2011 at 11:30A.M.

SISSY SPACEK (Missus Walters) has been one of the industry's most respected actresses for more than three decades. Her many honors include an Academy Award "' , five additional Oscar"' nominations, three Golden Globe"' Awards and numerous critics' awards.

Spacek first gained prominence for her performance in 's 1973 drama "Badlands," in which she starred opposite . In 1976, Spacek earned her first Academy Award"' nomination and won a National Society of Film Critics Award for her chilling performance in the title role of 's "." The following year, she won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for her work in 's "Three Women."

In 1980, Spacek starred as in the acclaimed biopic "Coal Miner's Daughter," winning the Oscar"' and Golden Globe"' Award for her performance. Spacek also received the New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics, National Board of Review and National Society of Film Critics Awards for her portrayal of the country music legend.

Spacek received another Golden Globe"' nomination the next year for her work in "Raggedy Man," directed by her husband, . She earned her third Oscar "' and Golden Globe nominations for her role in Costa-Gavras' 1982 drama "Missing," opposite , and her fourth Oscar"' and Golden Globe"' nominations for her work in 1984's "The River," in which she starred with .

In 1987, Spacek received her fifth Academy Award"' nomination and won another Golden Globe"' and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for her performance in the dark comedy "." Her most recent Oscar® nomination came for her portrayal of a mother grieving for her murdered son in the drama "," for which she also 2 won a Golden Globe"' Award, an Independent Spirit Award and an AFI Film Award for Best Actress. In addition, she garnered Best Actress Awards from a number of critics' organizations, including the Los Angeles, New York and Broadcast Film Critics. Her work in "In the Bedroom" also brought Spacek two Screen Actors Guild'' (SAG) Award nominations, one for Outstanding lead Actress and another for Outstanding Cast, shared with the rest of the film's ensemble.

Spacek's other film credits include "A Home at the End of the World," "," "Blast From the Past," "Affliction," "," "JFK," "," "'night, Mother," "Marie," "North Country," "Nine Lives," "Hot Rod," "Lake City," "Four Christmases," and "Get Low."

Spacek has also been honored for her work on television, where she has starred in several highly praised long-form projects. She received Emm/ Award nominations for her portrayal of in "Last Call" and for her work in ' western "The Good Old Boys," as well as SAG~ Award nominations for her performances in {/Midwives" and "A Place for Annie."
