The 2019 season will see the opening of new ballparks in Amarillo, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Fayetteville, North Carolina, and based on the success of Minor League Baseball’s Hispanic/Latinx fan engagement initiative, Copa de la Diversión, that program will expand from 33 to 72 teams as our teams expand their efforts to be more representative of their communities . While you may see some new logos and team identities this spring and summer, what remains the same is the quality, affordable family entertainment in a clean and safe environment that is a staple of Minor League Baseball across the country . With 20 leagues and more than 250 clubs, Minor League Baseball is where you will find the next generation of baseball’s brightest stars on their way to the big leagues . You just might be watch- ing the next Kris Bryant in South Bend tonight, the next Mike Trout in Cedar Rapids or the next Vladimir Guerrero Jr . in Lansing! The Midwest League has a long history of clubs making a difference in their communities while also providing a great product on the field and in the stands . The Midwest League was the most charitable of our leagues when it comes to giving back to its communities as the 16 clubs made gift in-kind contributions of over $6 million in 2018! Minor League Baseball also remains an integral part of the sports landscape, and of the com- munities it represents . Last season, Minor League Baseball’s philanthropic endeavors included donating over $40 .5 million in cash and value in kind contributions to local and national charities . We are proud to support our National Charity Partners: The ALS Association, the American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The BairFind Foundation and Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure, as well as other worthy initiatives and causes . In 2018, a remarkable 40 .4 MILLION fans attended Minor League Baseball games and I am certain that with your continued support, Minor League Baseball will prosper for many years to come . As stewards and fans of the game, it is our responsibility to build, nurture and protect this great game for the future generations of fans . Thank you, again, for your passionate support of Minor League Baseball, and particularly the Midwest League . I wish you a healthy and enjoyable season of baseball . Let's play ball! Sincerely, Pat O'Conner President & CEO Minor League Baseball 3 LETTER FROM MWL PRESIDENT To Our Loyal Midwest League Fans: After a challenging winter in the Midwest, Spring is here and with it Midwest League baseball . Our game is a treasure and each of our communities in the Midwest League is blessed to be able to attend games and enjoy the exciting atmosphere, and the young stars who will some day populate the Major Leagues . One aspect of the Midwest League many may not know about, is we lead Minor League Baseball in “GBs” . What is a GB you might ask? It is Give Backs . Last year our Clubs gave back to their communities, donations which amounted to over 7 million dollars . The Cougars in Kane County contributed over 1 million dollars, and Quad Cities led all of Minor League Baseball in cash dona- tions . Lake County has a wonderful Miracle Field right next to their ballpark . The rest of our Clubs have great stories to tell as well . Bottom line, Midwest League Clubs are a shining example of corporate citizenship . Every ticket you buy will yield a return on investment in our own home towns for those who are in need . Speaking of home towns, mine will host the All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 18 . It will be in South Bend for the first time in 30 years . I invite all of you to take a road trip or drive down the street to see the premier event of the year in our League . Lansing last year and Midland the year before have set the bar really high . I look forward to how South Bend meets the challenge . This year marks the 20th season for Midwest League Baseball in Dayton . In the prior 19 seasons they have had 1,316 straight sell outs – a professional sports record by a long shot . It is a success story we in our League love to tell . Each of our Clubs offer something special as well . Get out soon and often with your family to watch as each Club tries to supplant the Bowling Green Hot Rods, the 2018 Midwest League Champion, and Baseball America’s Minor League Team of the Year . Laugh at the entertainment . Have a hot dog and soda and just smile . Thank you for your wonderful support . See you at the Park . Play Ball!!! Sincerely, Richard A . SEATTLE MARINERS NEWS CLIPS April 8, 2010 Originally published April 7, 2010 at 10:13 PM | Page modified April 7, 2010 at 11:51 PM Mariners bullpen falters in 6-5 loss to Oakland Oakland's Kurt Suzuki drilled a deep fly ball past the glove of Milton Bradley at the left-field wall in the ninth inning, handing reliever Mark Lowe and the Mariners a 6-5 walkoff loss. By Geoff Baker Seattle Times staff reporter OAKLAND, Calif. - The realities of a six-man bullpen began hitting the Mariners about as hard as their opponent was by the time the fifth inning rolled around. It was clear by then that Seattle starter Ryan Rowland-Smith would have to scratch and claw just to make it through the minimum five innings his team desperately needed Wednesday night. After that, it was Russian roulette time, as the Mariners played a guessing game with their limited relief corps, squeezing every last pitch they could out of some arms. But they couldn't get the job completely done as Kurt Suzuki drilled a deep fly ball past the glove of Milton Bradley at the left-field wall in the ninth inning, handing reliever Mark Lowe and the Mariners a 6-5 walkoff loss. After the game, manager Don Wakamatsu suggested the team would have to call up another bullpen arm if a similar long-relief scenario occurs in Thursday's series finale. "We can't keep going like this," Wakamatsu said. The second walkoff defeat in two nights for the Mariners, in front of 18,194 at the Coliseum, has them crossing their fingers that starters Doug Fister and Jason Vargas don't implode these next two days.

LOUIS -- Boosted by Aledmys Diaz's first career multi-homer game, the Cardinals' offense awoke Saturday to spoil Bronson Arroyo's return to the Majors. With a 10-4 rout of the Reds at Busch Stadium, the Cardinals surpassed their season run total in one afternoon and gave Michael Wacha more than sufficient support in his season debut. Diaz deposited Arroyo's fourth pitch of the game into the left-field seats to give the Cardinals an early lead, and, three innings later, put the Cardinals ahead by five with a three-run drive to nearly the same spot. "Somebody had to get it going, and he just decided to do it twice," said Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, whose club had been shut out on two hits a night earlier. "And then you saw it continue." Arroyo, who became the first Reds pitcher to start a game at age 40 since 1945, allowed six runs on six hits over four innings. However, just getting back on the mound was an achievement. Saturday's start marked Arroyo's first Major League appearance since June 2014. "It was a battle. It was a grind, man," Arroyo said. "I didn't get deep enough in the ballgame to really make a difference.

The new partnership will bring some of the most exciting prospects in the game to Blue Wahoos Stadium alongside the storied legacy of Twins baseball. Twins history began in 1961 when Washington Senators president Calvin Griffith made the historic decision to move his family’s team to the Midwest, settling on the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in Minnesota. The new team was named after the state’s famous Twin Cities and began their inaugual season with a talented roster featuring Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, Camilo Pascual, and Jim Lemon. Homegrown talents Jim Kaat, Zoilo Versalles, Jimmie Hall, and Tony Oliva combined with the Twins already potent nucleus to make the team a force to be reckoned with in the 1960s.
