Color Matching Adjustment For Studio Camera System 1. Color Matching Adjustment 1-1. Introduction & Recommended Measuring Instruments Camera’s picture-making differs according to the model. Shooting with different models at the same time or editing the footage from them requires Color Matching Adjustment in advance. In this manual, how to adjust the color of HC3800 to a reference camera (other companies’ studio cameras or camera recorders also possible) is explained. As an example, AJ-HPX3100G is the reference camera in this explanation. Setting up Switcher between Camera and WFM Monitor can make it easier to compare the two camera pictures and waveform(level comparison, etc.) using WIPE or other functions. <HINT> In Color Matching Adjustment, MENU operations for GAMMA, FLARE, MATRIX, etc. are required. Separately from a monitor for picture comparison, if one for MENU checking is set up, operation and comparison will be easier. For HC3800 camera, connect a monitor to PM OUT of AK-HCU200 to output the MENU. For HC3500 camera, set its SDI OUT to VF OUT and connect a monitor. © Panasonic Corporation 2014 1. Preparation of Adjustment 1-4. Setting of the Camera and Lighting 1. Requirements for setting up Cameras and Lights 1-1. Requirements for setting up the two Cameras Position the two Cameras about three meters away from Chart. They should be as close to each other as possible so that their shooting angles are almost the same. Also their lens optical axes have to be as high as the center of Chart. Halogen light 1-2. Notes for setting up Light Sources Each of two sets of Lights (500W Halogen), as in the figure, should throw light at the same angle onto Chart. Set them up using the illuminometer so that the whole surface of Chart is lit up as evenly as possible. Its illuminance should be around 2,000 lux. If your Halogen Light has adjustable “SPOT-WIDE” function, WIDE is recommended. Flowchart Accurate color matching between two cameras is not possible by the use of Color Chart only. Differences in brightness-related characteristics (GAMMA correction, Pedestal level, Flare level) make it difficult. Prior to matching using Color Chart, adjust GAMMA correction characteristics, Pedestal level and Flare level using Grayscale Chart to be able to conduct a more accurate matching. Follow the procedure below to perform color matching. Basic Setting of the Camera Check the Reference Camera AWB, ABB, GAMMA BALANCE, Flare condition with Grayscale chart Adjusting the Target Camera with AWB, ABB, Pedestal level, GAMMA BALANCE, Flare Grayscale chart Adjusting the Target Camera with Chroma Level, MATRIX 6 AXIS and 12 AXIS DSC Chart Confirmation with Macbeth chart Confirmation with Skin-tone Chart © Panasonic Corporation 2014 2. Procedure of Color Matching Adjustment 2-2. Basic Setting of the Camera AK-HRP935A Turn OFF the following functions of Reference Camera and Target Camera (AK-HC3800/HC3500A). ① Knee/Auto Knee ② White Clip ③ DTL(H/V Detail) <Reasons why these functions should be turned off> ・Knee/Auto Knee : If Knee is ON when Grayscale is shot, steps above the Knee AK-HRP200 Point Level will be compressed to make it difficult to compare the levels between GAMMA corrections for high-brightness areas. ・White Clip : For Color Matching Adjustment, the cameras need to be set so that “100% White” part of Grayscale shows 100%. If White Clip setting is lower than 100%, reset it to either OFF or higher than 100% (factory setting: 109%). ・DTL(H/V Detail) : If DTL is ON, noise components will increase and checking the waveform and vector dot will be difficult. When setting the cameras via HRP200, which has no White Clip button, set them through MENU. © Panasonic Corporation 2014 2. Procedure of Color Matching Adjustment 2-3. Check the Reference Camera condition with Grayscale chart 2) PED with WFM GAINx5 Check the reference camera conditions. 1) Aim the camera at the Grayscale chart. 2) Execute “ABB” and close the IRIS to check pedestal level. In later pages, the pedestal level of target camera will be adjusted to this level. Pedestal 3) Open the IRIS and make adjustments to get 100% Level white level by turning the iris ring in the “CLOSE” direction. Then execute “AWB” with the grayscale 3,4) Check R, G and B Level=100%, chart. If the F number of iris at 100% white level is Grayscale cross point level and balance not between F4.0 and F5.6, set ND filter so that the iris is between F4.0 and F5.6. 100% 4) Repeat AWB and ABB several times. And adjust the Cross iris to get 100% white level. Point 5) Check the cross point level. When RGB cross points are not the same level, adjust them if necessary. The cross point level of target camera will be adjusted to this level in later pages. © Panasonic Corporation 2014 2. Procedure of Color Matching Adjustment 2-3. Check the Reference Camera condition with Grayscale chart 6) Check FLARE and R, G and B balance Check the reference camera conditions. 6) Open the IRIS by 2.5 stops and check FLARE level and R, G and B FLARE balance. In later pages, the Flare FLARE level of target camera will be adjusted to this Level level. 7) Adjust the IRIS to get 100% white level again. 7) Set 100% white by IRIS. © Panasonic Corporation 2014 2. Procedure of Color Matching Adjustment 2-4. Adjusting the Target Camera with Grayscale chart 2-4-1. Setting 100% White level Iris full open to 100% white ( only one direction adjustment is recommended ) 1) Adjust the iris level so that the white level becomes 100%. If iris(F number) is not between F4.0 and F5.6, please change ND filter so that the iris is between F4.0 and F5.6 in the same way as the reference camera. (same level and conditions as the reference camera) Use the switcher to make this adjustment so that Pedestal “100% White” part shows the same level. Note : The iris adjustment should be performed from FULL Open position to reduce the effect caused by Lens mechanical unevenness. © Panasonic Corporation 2014 2. Procedure of Color Matching Adjustment 2-4. Adjusting the Target Camera with Grayscale chart 2-4-2. White Balance / Black Balance Adjustment AK-HRP200 1) Perform “AWB” and “ABB” several times. (around 3 times) <Reason> Auto White Balance (AWB) and Auto Black Balance (ABB) have an effect on each other. So repeating them several times will AK-HRP935A lead to the optimum values. Also, when adjusting GAMMA, Flare or Pedestal, a slight change of the balance will occur, so executing AWB and ABB again is recommended. © Panasonic Corporation 2014 2. Procedure of Color Matching Adjustment 2-4. Adjusting the Target Camera with Grayscale chart 2-4-3. Master Pedestal Adjustment 1) Close the iris and adjust Master Pedestal(MP) so that the pedestal level becomes same level as the reference camera.
