Coming out of the Hunters Inn take the path to the left of the hotel signposted Heddon’s Mouth Woody Bay . Take right fork signed Woody Bay , a wide path which was once a carriage drive between the hunters Inn and Woody Bay.
The path curves eastward round Hill Brook where you will leave Heddon Mouth Cleave. The path continues for 2.5km, with a small signposted diversion up to the Roman Fortlet on Martinhoe Beacon, 250m (800ft) above sea level. Returning to the main path, continue along the top edge of the woods until you reach a second gate. do not take the lane but turn sharp right, signposted Footpath Martinhoe , cutting back along a narrow uphill path till you reach another lane. Turn right to Martinhoe Church.
Turn right out of the churchyard and follow the lane left and uphill. After about 800m take a right turn and follow this lane downhill, past Mannacott Farm and steeply down to the Hunters Inn where you will find a warm welcome and a well earned pint!
