Road Safety. At the last Parish Meeting residents voiced concerns regarding road safety in Streat Lane. The Committee members continue to be part of an active group dealing with traffic. Their scope includes road safety, volume and speeds, plus all aspects affecting road users. It is made up of experienced and interested parties including representatives from neighbouring parishes and Highways. A recent speed survey of Spatham Lane, showed that the average speed was just over 40mph which was lower than expected. It is felt that reducing speed limits has little effect and that physical measures such as chicanes along Spatham Lane may be necessary. The Committee hope to learn from the experiences at Spatham Lane before considering any action in Streat Lane. In the meantime we have reported some wide potholes along the edge of Streat Lane which were forcing cyclists in to the centre of the road, as well as being dangerous for cars. These are being filled by ESCC Highways. Tony Gedge is also arranging to meet with South Downs National Park to see if they can assist with road safety measures in Streat.

Operation Crackdown. Residents can help to keep the local roads safe by reporting incidents to . Operation Crackdown has recently added a new reporting category - "Close pass of a horse" to look to evidence an increasing amount of near miss reports that are received. This category is in addition to the "Close pass of a Cyclist" which has been in place for a year now. As with all reports to Operation Crackdown - you will need the registration number of the vehicle concerned and ideally some form of corroborative evidence such as helmet cam. For more information or to report an incident please visit www.operationcrackdown.org or email [email protected] or call 101.

Neighbourhood First. Representatives from District Council spoke at the Annual Parish Meeting about a new initiative called Neighbourhood First. Neighbourhood First is a team of advisors who work with communities to improve their neighbourhood.

They act as the link between the councils and the community and work alongside a range of volunteers, groups and other council staff to maintain the quality of the environment. They can help with a range of issues including dog fouling, fly-tipping, littering, abandoned vehicles and fallen trees. You can report issues via the website at https://www.lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/environmental-problems/neighbourhood-first/

Alternatively, you can download an app from the website to your phone.

Planning Matters. It has been quite quiet on the planning front; since the Parish Meeting in April the following planning application has been approved:

LW/18/0176 Shergolds Farm Streat Lane Streat East Sussex BN6 8SA Proposal: Part demolition of existing stable block.
