At least those of us who aren’t given to have Tad Hendrickson a serious mean streak. But sometimes we need to. Who am I speaking I about? Music directors. CONTRIBUTING EDITORS I’ll admit that there are lots of reasons to say no to a promoter – foremost Keith Zimmerman of which is if the record is lousy. But there’s an even better reason to say no: Kent Zimmerman if you have no intention of ever playing the record. CONTRIBUTING WRITER/ PHOTOGRAPHER I’ll admit my reasons for bringing this up are entirely self serving. The Tom Mallison scenario goes like this: PHOTOGRAPHY 1) Promoter calls lots of radio stations, some of whom tell said promoter Barry Solof that, why yes! we’re going to add the CD. 2) Radio station doesn’t play the CD and therefore it doesn’t get spins Founding Publisher: Tony Gasparre monitored by Mediaguide or doesn’t get reported. 3) Promoter calls JazzWeek editor complaining that we or Mediaguide ADVERTISING: Devon Murphy must be screwing up because stations say they are playing it and we don’t have Call (866) 453-6401 ext. 3 or spins, or ... email: [email protected] 4) Station swears to said promoter that they played it or reported it and we or Mediaguide must be screwing up. SUBSCRIPTIONS: Neither JazzWeek nor Mediaguide are perfect, and on occasion errors Free to qualified applicants or technical glitches happen. And sometimes a regional release will not get Premium subscription: $149.00 per year, w/ Industry Access: $249.00 per year monitored or added to our manual reports. But not that often.
