På “Ten Love songs” blottlegger Sundfør seg med episke resultater, og hun har, uten tvil, skapt sitt mest engasjerende og komplette verk til nå. Med kunnskap ervervet gjennom samarbeider og produksjonsjobbing etter det kritikerroste albumet “The Silicone Veil” I 2012, valgte Susanne å takle det nye albumet på egne premisser. Selv om “Ten Love Songs” inkluderer musikalsk assistanse fra nye og gamle venner (inkludert Anthony Gonzalez fra M83, Svein og Torbjørn i Röyksopp, hennes samarbeidspartner over lang tid Lars Horntveth fra Jaga Jazzist, og Trondheimsolistene Chamber Ensemble) så er albumet i bunn og grunn innspilt, orkestrert og produsert av Sundfør selv. ‘Ten Love Songs’ starter med en klagesang og ender med en utilslørt påminnelse om en verden uten kjærlighet. Hun etterfølger dermed Todd Terjes vanvittige suksesskonsert fra i fjor. Det er en mer musikalsk utadvendt Sundfør du møter i 2015, med høyere tempo og mer klassisk pop i låtene. Sjøl er hun begeistra over å få avslutte på Øya sin største scene: - Jeg er helt oppe i skyene over å få headline Øya i år. Jeg lover et stort show og masse kjærlighet. Susanne er aktuell med nye singelen «Delirious» fra kommende album "Ten Love Songs", som slippes 16. februar. "Delirious" er en annen stor sang og stemningsfull synth-pop låt fra Susanne. Den fengende vokalen og den pulserende synth bassen kjører i én retning, mens vakker kor og stryk (spilt av Trondheimsolistene) drar den tilbake ned i mørket. - Jeg ønsket å skrive en filmatisk sang om kjærlighet og kraft. Det begynte med bare beat og bass, og underveis som låten gikk seg til la vi på stryk og flere og mer vokalarrangementer, før jeg følte budskapet var klart nok. (Susanne Sundfør) Dagbladet ga terningkast seks lurte på om de har hørt årets beste låt: "Er det lov å si at vi har årets beste norske låt allerede niende januar?" På 'Ten Love Songs' har Susanne uten tvil levert sitt mest overbevisende og fullt ut realiserte arbeid hittils. Dissertation Advisor: Professor Alexander Rehding Olivia Rose Lucas Loudness, Rhythm and Environment: Analytical Issues in Extreme Metal Abstract Extreme metal music, with its consummate loudness and distortion, and intransigent culture of transgressiveness, resists analysis. This dissertation embraces extreme metal’s liveliness and channels it toward a broad cultural and musical analysis, exploring avenues of loudness, rhythm and ecocriticism. The study of extreme metal opens a window on liminal auralities, allowing the listener to encounter the thresholds of listening and the sheer physicality of sound. These aspects of the extreme metal listening experience open up a broader range of issues: the effects of loudness on the body and mind, the convergent mental and physical experiences of rhythmic complexity, and the sounding out of the often troubled relationship between humans and the natural world. Built as a series of case studies grounded in moments of sonic experience, the dissertation unearths issues essential to the analysis of extreme metal music and relevant to sonic practice more generally. The introductory chapter situates extreme metal in its current context, examining both the genre’s increasing institutionalization and the turbulent aspects of its history. Chapter 1 contemplates the embodied experience of extremely loud, low frequencies via an auto-ethnographic reading of a performance by the band Sunn O))).
